I haven’t used a service for printing photos in years. I ordered some from a Canadian service this week, just a few to test them out, and I’m not happy with the quality. I’ll be using the pics in a 6x8 pocket page album.
I’m thinking of ordering from Shutterfly but have some questions. If you use their service, are you happy with the prints? What finish do you order - matte, glossy or pearl? I’ve always ordered matte in the past, but my test photos this week looked so dull. Any advice for me?

My advice is to order from Persnickety Prints instead. The quality is amazing.

Shutterfly is meh. I do use them every great once in awhile for prints but they are not that great. I agree with @citygirl use Persnickety if you can.

Since you are in Canada have you tried Blacks photos? They were my go-to back when they were brick and mortar, and I have ordered from them online about a year ago and was very impressed. The only reason I haven't used them lately is that I have been printing much smaller batches and it is easier for me to get them from my local drug store.

I only use Shutterfly if they give me a lot of free prints, and often not even then. Their quality just isn't like it used to be (years ago) at all. I would try something else.

I am searching for a really good quality photo printing option up here as well. Where did you try?
I used to get everything printed at Costco and since they shut down, I am lost. I havent heard anything good about the quality of the prints from their online mail out service. I want to try Persnickity but shipping is $20US to Canada and the exchange (ouch!). I have to make the order worthwhile or try to get a friend to share it with me.

I ordered my trial prints from a camera store near me, Gosselin Photo, but the quality was not what I expected. I used to occasionally order from another local camera store, Lozeau, but they now farm out their lab work to a place in Alberta, Henry’s Cameras, but they take up to 5 days to process an order and I don’t feel like waiting that long. I’ve decided to go with the local pharmacy chain that receives the best reviews. ETA: For years I’ve been printing out my own photos, but then our printer broke. The new one is awful. So much bother. Sigh.

Sigh. Ya I might try London Drugs here. They used to have good prints. The photo stores here are way too expensive for me. I cant/wont pay $1.50 for a 4x6. I agree with the $20 shipping...that is why I would like to split it with a friend. We can get it shipped to the border (we are only 45 min and there is company that stores there for a $5 fee), but with the shutdown we cant use that option right now.
