I posted last week asking for ideas on how to do my nails with a glitter top coat. This is what I ended up with. I painted the solid color (OPI sleigh parking only) and then sponges on the glitter with a cosmetic sponge. It isn't perfect but not bad for the first time. It feels a little more bold than what I am used to but hopefully I won't be too self conscious. Attachments:

Just looked at my inspiration photo and added a little more glitter. Still need to clean them up a bit. Attachments:

Yikes! My cuticles look horrible when I make that photo bigger. Guess I need some cuticle oil before bed!

Very pretty!
I can never get my nail polish to look that good. It's like I'm painting with two left hands!

Pretty darn good for your first try. I like it best with the extra glitter. Thanks for sharing.

Love it! I love black nails, and glittery nails, so this combination is the perfect match I think I'll do it too!

I think it's very pretty. I like it with the extra glitter as well. If it were on pinterest, I'd pin it!

that is really cute!! so is that regular glitter or polish glitter? It is polish glitter. I used Essie set in stone. The base color is actually a dark purple, but looks black in low light.

I love it! I think the glittery top makes the dark colour less somber and more dramatic and youthful. I just bought OPI You Don't Know Jacques for fall, and I think that the colour would look so cool with a top coat of sheer gold sparkle that I have (I don't remember the name) or gold glitter. I also have two of the Revlon Moon Candy duos of the dark bottom coat and glittery top coat in 'galactic' -navy blue/bright cerulean and 'satellite' oxblood/orange&gold. The glittery topcoat contains multicoloured large flat "confetti" in different shades and brightness than the bottom coat. Some of the flakes are also metallic. It is difficult to judge how much glitter you will get when you add more lacquer from the bottle--so you wind up getting a lot of glitter. These lacquers wear like iron, but they are also *very* difficult to remove. I want to get some nail art tools and brushes and mix my own colours and have better tools to apply lacquers that are difficult to control. I also have a large set of Martha Stewart's beautiful craft glitters, and I wonder how they'd look with nail art. --I'd do a few layers of top coat to seal in any sharp edges of the glitter. I have very dry skin and have to keep up with moisturizing my hands/cuticles, especially in winter. I discovered a lavender hand scrub by Crabtree and Evelyn that is wonderful on cuticles and exfoliating, but is also gentle on skin and moisturizing. I also use cuticle oil as well as using body oil on my hands when I use this on my whole body. I try not to cut my cuticles--just exfoliate and keep them pushed down. I don't like the way a lot of manicurists cut them at the quick. My favourite lip balm/exfoliator is Bite Beauty's Superfruit Butter. It's a great bottom coat/chapstick. I also rub some on my cuticles and sides of my fingernails where they get really dry. Since I discovered this product a little over a year ago, I've not had any of those nasty torn hang nails that get red and painful. I love these nail threads and photos. I never think to take photos of my mani/pedis. For Christmas, I really want to do a special pedicure in greens and whites--in a Mistletoe pattern.

M in Carolina--thanks for all of the recommendations! I have a few glittery polishes that I got in multi-packs, but have not used them. I want to experiment with them a little now. I also bought Zoya Bar and it is soooo pretty. Can't wait to try that one as well.
Now that it is colder I feel like I am parched from hand to toe. I also have a cold and just can't seem to keep my lips and hands from feeling dry.

I just got some new polishes last night, inspired from your post. I hope you don't mind a hijack so I can share mine. I didn't do the larger glitter on mine, so I just used the brush to apply it...the 2 go well together and I'm quite pleased with the result!
