Anyone following Chris Harrison's stunning defense of Rachael Kirkconnell? Rachel Lindsay did an excellent job of pushing him to take a stand against racism and he just couldn't. Now he is stepping aside from the show for an unknown period: The next season is scheduled to start filming next month and I doubt he will be involved. CBS story

Before this all broke, I heard he was stepping away. I guess this is probably why. It's disappointing and I didn't expect something like this from him.

I wonder if he'll stay with the franchise and work behind the scenes rather than in front of the camera. His departure doesn't sound permanent.

I’m sad that Chris didn’t learn enough during his seasons with the Bachelor to know what he was saying was racist.
I, personally, think that The Bachelor/Bachelorette has jumped the shark and should just go away at this point. The shows only serve to perpetuate and elevate sexist stereotypes of both genders.
It was so shocking to me last year to watch the look-back-over-the-years shows and see how different the women looked in the first 5 seasons in comparison to what we see now. They didn’t all wear false eyelashes, they didn’t mostly have breast implants, they didn’t wear a ton of makeup. It wasn’t the modeling competition it has turned into. Not to mention the Bachelor Nation sleeping around and hookups that happen off the show at whatever that country music festival is called.
The contestants - both male and female - have gotten more vicious with each season, to the point that bullying is common.
It used to be one of my guilty pleasures - I haven’t been able to watch more than a couple of episodes of the past 3-4 seasons.

I actually think the franchise could survive just fine without Chris. He seems to have less and less involvement each season with former players coming back to counsel and advise the lead. He definitely has less involvement than Jeff on Survivor or Phil on The Amazing Race. In the Clare/Tayshia season he left La Quinta during filming to take his son to college and was shocked when producers wouldn't let him back on camera until after he quarantined again. He definitely overestimated his importance with that move and JoJo hosted for at least 2 episodes. I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few members of the Bachelor Nation have been blowing up the phones of the executive producers begging for a shot at hosting. elaine, I do think it has evolved to something very different than where it started. The whole goal now seems to be growing/launching an influencer/SM audience and lifestyle more than actually winning a fiance. Contestants need to make enough of an impression to get invited to Bachelor in Paradise (the true icky hook-up show) or guest in future seasons. Some get the "sweet & good" label and others the "evil & ruthless" label. The number that roll their Bachelor experience into a lucrative career is astonishing.

I like the very first seasons. These 2 hour episodes seem to pack in the bullying. It's tiring.

I still watch, but the drama is getting out of hand. I am sure that the producers get to make one of the roses each week. You know...so the drama can stay another week.

Though I would add I have always found Chris to be totally fake, and I'm not entirely surprised by any of this.

I have this season on TIVO. I need to watch and see what transpired. My understanding is that it's just a lot of mean girls and hate. If so, then it's time to cancel the show. Much as I enjoyed the first few seasons it's become an angry venue for people to become famous, rather than a show about finding the one.

I don’t know about you but I am so damn tired of all the apologies 🤷🏾♀️ An interesting discussion would be: Why was I told I had to work twice as hard but boy moms issued no warning of safety? How white women still manage to be racist all while lusting after black men. How many people can feign ignorance or be walking an anti-racist path before we are all like umm okay if you haven’t arrived there are no excuses remaining. Chris basically said 2018 was BEFORE George Floyd so she deserves to “speak for herself” *bangs head* time.com/5857023/karen-meme-history-meaning/?amp=trueWhen I tell you I am so fucking done with all this

I think I watched two or three seasons of this show way back. I can’t stand mean and I can’t stand drama. But even if I had watched the show as a guilty pleasure you would not find me lamenting a racist leaving the show. Good effing riddance. It shouldn’t be the same and we should be glad he’s gone.

The show and its problems aside, he is disgusting. The way he conducted himself in that interview with Rachel L. was shameful and it’s white attitudes like his that keep this country from progressing.
