So, when can we expect a bill that allows a woman to order her partner to get a vasectomy? Fuck just requesting for men we know, we should just go ahead and snip every single man and then snip all the boys at birth. Could you imagine the uproar?

Can you imagine being in a breakup and having one of the negotiation pieces be “I can make you carry a pregnancy for nine months, physically give birth, and tie you to me for eighteen years whether you like it or not”?
Absolutely disgusting.

All they need to do is say they are the father, not provide actual proof. As if no one would exploit this lazy effort to prove paternity.
Some days my DH is in danger of getting punched for the sins of his fellow men, I swear.

I know, it would still be a reprehensible law if they had to prove paternity, but that the fact that all they have to do is sign an effing piece of paper is beyond my comprehension.

It's times like these that I honestly can't imagine how lucky I am to have been born, and continue to live, on the "liberal left coast". I just can't with these States.

Absolutely disgusting. Worse still if it’s any kind of abusive relationship to begin with.

It's been 48 YEARS since Roe vs. Wade passed and back then these types of restrictions were unheard of-yet here we are almost 50 years later and in some states it's now insane that these laws, and more like them are being passed. Instead of going further into the future as women's liberation freed us from the kitchen and the home, we are instead going backwards with men still trying to enslave us and our bodies. Fuck them!
If they keep pulling this shit we need to fight back! For every insane piece of legislation they try to pass like this, we need to try to pass legislation against men's bodies. Mandated and enforced vasectomies one month after the onset of puberty. At least they are reversible.
Give them a taste of their own medicine!

A woman who agrees to procreate with you 2. Financial income requisite to support a child 3. Emotional health evaluation 4. Parental training class - 6 months - 1/week If they can F#($* around w/our bodies (so to speak) we can F(#*$ around with theirs.

I just can’t with these jackasses.
ETA. This is also misguided because it will force women to lie and say it was a one night stand.

If they are going to do that, they need to give boys a vascetomy at birth! And let any female make her boyfriend/husband to get a vascetomy! And demand men donate blood and kidneys because that saves lives!
These women should get a trusted male friend to say he's the father and he is good with what they want to do (if this becomes a law). But women should not have to get permission from anyone to decide what is done with their bodies! This makes me so mad!

My husband thinks women should have all the say in what they do with their bodies, so don't worry, there are many men out there that are on our side.
And are these men that won't give their "permission" ready to pay for this kid for the next 18-22 yrs.? Probably not!

While I completely agree with you in theory, as long as the majority of our elected officials are male it’s never going to happen. And what’s worse is that we can’t even count on some of the women in office (and in the judiciary) to be on the side of common sense. I just can’t even anymore with these backward thinking troglodytes. And yet they keep getting re-elected. I can’t believe we’re still having to fight this fight after almost fifty freaking years of choice being *legal*. The more of these idiotic bills that get introduced, the more I think we need to push back NOW while we have the majority in the House and Senate by demanding that the Supreme Court be expanded to help even things out. It’s absolute bullshit that Trump was handed not one but two seats thanks to his boot licking lackeys in the Senate. Either that, (and/) or have Kavanaugh impeached and removed for perjury by lying during his confirmation hearing.

My Dh was a lifelong Republican who switched parties during W Bush’s second term. We were just talking yesterday that while he cannot believe what the GOP has become, he is so unhappy with Democrats because when they DO have power, they refuse to just ACT and lead. We, as a party, become too tied up in the process of trying to negotiate with the GOP and treat them how we want to be treated. The process gets bogged down and little changes and then we lose power again - through the White House and/or the Senate and/or the House. In order to stop the insanity in some states, we need to just push things through like the GOP did. We also need to expand the Supreme Court. And we need to do it pronto.

Exactly right elaine. I think they need to push back really HARD, right now, and act as if they only have two years to get stuff done on their own because in all reality that may be the case. If they refuse to learn from the past we are ALL destined to find ourselves in this everlasting loop of nothing ever improving. Take the ACA/Obamacare for example. The Democrats pushed it through on a party line vote and we heard nothing from the Republicans except gnashing teeth and endless bitching about it, trying to throw it out and/or dismantle it for a decade, and on and on and on. Except for one little problem. Once it was enacted and people started having reliable health care coverage, surprise, surprise! THEY LIKED IT. Even the red state Republican rank and file voters for the most part liked it, even if they were confused by the fact that the “Obamacare” that they claimed to despise was the same damn program as ACA which they loved. Go figure. The irony is that when democratic programs and policies do finally get pushed through, everyday average people overwhelmingly like the results. But damn it can be hard to get stupid people to vote in their own actual self interests.

We *seem* to be recognizing that we need to reach out, but also to use our power when we have it. It is incredibly frustrating. I hope that we don’t get bogged down over trying to compromise. Yes, ideally that Is what would happen, but if we have learned anything, it is that Mitch McConnell will does not operate in good faith. And that might be the understatement of the year.

Don't overlook SC's new law: SC Abortion Law temporary suspensionAlready temporarily suspended because it would have canceled about 75 abortions already scheduled, the law would prevent almost all abortions after a heartbeat is detected - usually at 6 weeks. I'm glad we have a Democratic governor in NC. A woman's rights should not be limited by where they happen to live.

Yes, ideally that Is what would happen, but if we have learned anything, it is that Mitch McConnell will does not operate in good faith. And that might be the understatement of the year. The Republicans have shown that they have zero interest in compromising, ever. So even though we have the majorities in both chambers and a president that will sign progressive legislation, it isn’t going to amount to a hill of beans as long as old Moscow Mitch can filibuster and shut things down. I think that when you take into consideration the fact that Republicans who represent a minority of the population have had the majority rule for as long as they have up until now (primarily due to gerrymandering and voter suppression), Democrats (who represent the *actual* majority of the population) need to claw back whatever power they can while they can to get the most important things done. Even if they kill the filibuster there is only so much they can do in one term, and they need to act as if that is all they will get. The margins are razor thin and things have gotten so off track over the last ten years while the do nothing Republicans have been driving the bus. They are already fighting tooth and nail in the red and purple states to pass laws to suppress voting so they can hang onto whatever power they still have and reclaim whatever they can get.
