Dh finally agreed to watch The West Wing with me. I watched it originally while he worked nights. I own all the dads, but he would never watch them with me.
He is throughly enjoying it.

I don't know how anyone could not love West Wing once they start watching. It is one of the very best shows ever.

I’m so glad he’s enjoying it. I loved that series so much and was excited to finally watch it with my daughter and it didn’t hold her interest like I thought it would.

Oh how fun! We watched it when it was on originally, and then last year during lock-down we re-watched the entire series, we thoroughly enjoyed it and had forgot about some characters and story lines. We also re-watched Prison Break - that was fun too! Then we re-watched Chicago PD - all 7 seasons!

We completely missed it during the original run - way too busy with life. It was one of our first covid binges and I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it!

I own all the dads, but he would never watch them with me. I know you meant all the DVDs but I’m still lmao at you owning all the dads We’re all West Wing fans in this house, even younger ds when he’s home.

That’s awesome! Haven’t watched in quite a while, maybe because my oldest ds isn’t here to share my enthusiasm. We do traditionally watch the Thanksgiving episodes on Thanksgiving Eve while prepping food. Everyone loves the annual revisit of the Butterball Hotline scene.

I was never interested in watching it when it was on TV, but after seeing it on so many Peas' favorite series list I decided to try it out last year after finally getting Netflix. I loved it. I didn't make it thru the entire series before it left Netflix so I decided to do a special for 6 months of HBOMax so I could finish it (and we watch Friends, Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones, etc.) I just finished this past weekend--binged the last season over a couple of days. I had read the brief descriptions for each episode, but couldn't remember who won the election & it was killing me!
I've also enjoyed listening to The West Wing Weekly podcast (with Joshua Molina & another guy who was a big fan of the show).

Oh, Josh Lyman and Sam Seaborn have my heart. There is never enough West Wing in the world.

It’s DH’s second favorite show (first is Northern Exposure) so I was thrilled to get the DVD set on Amazon Lightning Deal over 10 years ago. He watches it all at least once a year, although now he just streams it on Netflix, but not getting rid of those DVDs just In case....
He watches when I’m in bed already, so I’m way behind. I watched the first 3-4 seasons originally, someday I want to finish, but I need to start over so I can enjoy every Josh/Donna and CJ moment.

I watched It when it aired originally, watched it when the DVD set came out, and then a third time last winter and into the pandemic. Much of it is just as relevant now as it was then IMO. And unfortunately, we’re still dealing with some of the same issues all these years later.

A question for the West Wing fans (and it looks like there are a lot of you, LOL!): If we watched the first two episodes of the first season and thought it was pretty clunky/simplistic/Disney... does the vibe change once they hit their stride? I so want to like it based on everyone's love of it, but just need to know if it's like a book that starts slow....

But are you expecting it to be more like House of Cards or the Blacklist? More action, sex, nefarious characters? It’s not. But it’s not simplistic. The Disney comparison is closer to accurate (although not negatively so) as the characters are mostly good people and the good guys usually win, but they’re also complex and face serious struggles and the series has a lot of depth and great dialog. It’s more of a cerebral show than action-adventure.

We are on season 3 episode 3 and since one of the last episodes of season 1 dh says, that was the best episode so far after each one. But this was late 90's into 2000s. The first two seasons were pre 9/11 and it focuses mainly on the people who are, in their hearts good. You won't find much scandal in it, but you will find humor and relevence.

I'd love to watch it - I didn't first time around. But nowhere to stream it in Canada

One of, if not our very favorite series of all time. We rewatch it frequently, so glad you get to share it with him! We still say to each other “I love this show” several times an episode.

We were huge fans when it first aired on network TV and I would love to re-watch it. Unfortunately, cakediva is right - none of the streaming services carry it in Canada. I wonder why? Crave TV only has the special that the cast made back in the fall called "When we all vote". It was a West Wing special and was very good, but the series is nowhere to be found.

I have never seen it, but it is on my watch list. I’m watching Twin Peaks now, so maybe WW will be next!

Oh what is there not to love about this show? DH and I watched every episode from the time it premiered. DD (22) was just a baby and DS (20) came along in season 2.
Now all four of us are huge WW fans. We have seen each episode countless times and we each have our favorite episodes. We have watched it in order several times over, but mostly we like to skip around and play whatever episode we are in the mood for or whichever is relevant at the time.
My favorite episodes is the arc of Oh What A Day It Has Been and In The Shadow of Two Gunmen 1&2. And to this day I cry during Two Cathedrals and can't watch the end of We Killed Yamamoto without ugly crying (I actually tuen away at the one scene but won't spoi it for those who haven't seen it).
DS actually did President Bartlet's monologue for an acting class, and the quote he uses all of the time in his poly-sci and history class assignments is "Decisions are made by those who show up."
Now y'all have made me want to go watch a few episodes.

It’s more of a cerebral show than action-adventure. I agree - it's not simplistic. A lot of what's best about the show, though, is the relationships between the characters - not in a romantic way, just the interplay between them. Because they're still fairly early in their first term, they're all still getting comfortable in their roles and their places on the team. It's like if you give the spices time, the flavor gets so much better. As they grow into more family than coworkers, the show really comes into its own.
