I use these long clear bins from iDesign to store colored embellishments that are perfect for storage for pulling out when I just need "something green" to go on a page. Because they are so long, I could see storing specific themed embellishments/chipboard in them like birthday or Christmas chipboard if you have a lot of a specific category. The little tiny bins in the cases that Ali used were too small for me.

I already see regret from people following AE and sorting chipboard by shape. It kind of ridiculous IMO, I have never once looked for a piece of chipboard because of the shape. Color yes. Sentiment yes. Maybe I’ll look for a star or a heart but never “oh, I need an oval.” Makes zero sense. I’m slowly migrating my chipboard into a container and will eventually sort by color or sentiment.

If you want something affordable but also reasonable quality, I highly recommend these if you can find them in your area at 99 cent stores. They only seem to show up every few months and they fly off the shelves when they do stock them. They are $3.99 in store (used to be the $2.99 marked in the image but I never found them before the price jump) and totally worth it. www.bargainw.com/wholesale-product/699604/Storage-Organizer.html

I didn't see them listed. Those would be a good deal for smaller embellies.

They were my original way to store all of my different ephemera. Now that I have moved the ephemera, I am not sure what I should put in them but am not willing to part with them either.

Oh those are nice and looks like they stack well too! Thanks to both of you for sharing! scrapaddict702 The 99 cent store ones are a bit over 9 1/4 wide, about 5 1/4 deep and about 3 3/4 tall (about 4 inches tall if you include the lip built in for the stacking feature. ETA: the dimensions are for the unit themselves, not the drawers. Those are just under 8 1/2 wide, about 5 inches deep and a bit over 1 1/2 inches tall. All inside measurements.
I love them. I ultimately didn't like the ones from Dollar Tree and recycled them because I didn't have anyone to give them to. You lose more of the drawer with the placement of the drawer 'slide' in them and they just didn't operate as fluidly as the ones from the 99 cent store. Price wise, you can fit more in the $3.99 2 drawers versus 4 of the dollar ones from the Dollar Tree. The DT ones aren't square either...the back is slightly shorter than the front, so if you stack more than 4 or 5 of them you'll see them start to lean. I've always been curious how many you'd need to actually stack to end up with a full circle, lol.

For those who would sort by category/sentiment which ones would you use? Looking at my chipboard the sentiments are all over the place. I would sort them something like: -love -miss you -happy -all other emotions -grow -weather -family -pets so maybe all the sentiments exactly arent the same, but have a general theme I was also thinking about this as sorting by sentiment is the only way I can imagine doing this. I think mine would be travel, positive/encouraging sentiments, ugh sentiments, family/home, and probably a few others. Then the shape options for stars, asterisks, hearts maybe?

Okay, I don't think I could do that. Depending on the style of chipboard, I have two organizational systems. For the chipboard like Ali is sorting, I put on a mini CIU, and sort by theme. You can see it here: For raw chipboard, I put in sleeves by name of the chippie. I love both of my systems. They work for me. Maybe they will inspire some of you. Amazing idea.I even have those tabs used for other organizing projects that I changed from. I have my clip it up in the garage hoping to be able to use it in my dream craft room one day. I've removed many pieces I love but want to keep for when I get a larger space because I probably won't be able to get them again. I will have to keep this idea bookmarked in my brain!

I wouldn’t store by shape since that rarely matters for me. My embellishments stay with their collections until I’ve used most of the paper and then go in my embellishment box. Right now these are stored in plastic baggies. I know, that’s pretty bad. I like the ideas some of you have posted and I think I want to sort by color. Words and phrases would be separate.

It's an interesting thought, but I don't look for a shape, I look for a color or sentiment. That's what makes it fun - everyone's brain creates differently. I love seeing the different ways that people store and sort there supplies, I can know that it wont work for me but I do love seeing how other people do things. This system would not work for me but I can appreciate it, simple shapes like hearts and stars and arrows I tend to keep together but not sentiments or themed items. I don't have a lot of chipboard and generally keep it in the packet that it came in but I have a die cut problem, so many that it started to get overwhelming and I could never find anything. I ended up buying some of those multiple photo boxes in cases and started sorting them out by themes, colours and kept some together. My best friend on the other hand keeps all of her embellishments by colour and then her die cuts and chipboard are all together in a big box and she just digs around, works for her but would be a nightmare for me.

I liked Ali's idea but also wondered how it would work out for me. I think I will give it a trial run with JUST my December Daily chipboard pieces and see how that works out first before really diving in. Then I may try it for general chipboard pieces like shapes and non-word/phrase pieces. Thanks to all for sharing your storage ideas too... got me thinking...

See December daily is all one theme and therefore I can see it working wether by shape or by color it’s all still DD themed But regular chip board is fall or spring or travel or whatever so that I can see it being very difficult to find that travel quote or that fall cozy quote if they are stored by shape or color.

I think it is almost always best to sort/store/organize by how you are going to look for something. Can’t actually think of a situation where this isn’t the case but trying to avoid the always/never thought processes!

All of my generic embellishments go in here. It’s so easy to pull out the drawer, dig through for something that works, and then put the drawer back. Grab and go. I don’t have a lot of chipboard. What I do have is kept with the paper collection or specific theme they belong to, that is true for everything from paper to embellishments. If it’s a sentiment or something I’d only use on a car, I have another drawer for that. Or, it’s sorted by color along with the rest of my embellishments. Going to take a photo, brb.

I think it makes sense to organize based on how you scrap. So when you need an embellishment, is your first thought “I need something blue”, “I need something round” or “I need something heart themed”? IMO, that’s how you should organize. It makes sense for her because her main goal is to create beautiful pages. They first and foremost need to look good to sell product. Also, she must not have a lot of stock if it all fits into two floss organizers. So if that’s all there is, it would be fairly easy to sift through the content. This exactly. It's flat out bonkers to me to even consider sorting sentiments by shape. Blank or patterned chipboards, sure, though I personally prefer by colour or theme, shape makes just as good sense there. But I cannot imagine either owning enough bits to find the right sentiment after picking a shape nor digging through who knows how many compartments to find the right words.

Unless you think of it as sorting it by phrases, rather than rectangles. All the phrases in that set are rectangles. Maybe that's what she means there? But in the end, I think it works for her because she was likely looking for strips of sentiments to add to a page vs a sentiment that conveys what she wanted to say. And there's no way that that is her complete stock of chipboard. I don't use chipboard very much, but even I have more than that. I think it's just one way to sort and store embellishments based on the way you think.

I sorted all my chipboard, random kit diecuts and badges last night. I had started taking older pieces of chipboard where there were only a couple left and tossing them in a container. Moved those and the rest into a larger ArtBin. I have them sorted by how I would look for them, mostly theme. My categories are Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter/Seasons, Family/Friends/We/Us, Stars, Hearts, Ampersands (holy cow are there A LOT of ampersands), etc. I have about 24 categories in all. I did save the original chipboard backers though, just in case I hate this approach.

she was likely looking for strips of sentiments to add to a page vs a sentiment that conveys what she wanted to say. I can't put words on a page that aren't what I want to say. That's why I don't buy many products with words because I always feel like they're trying to put fake words in my mouth and fake feelings on the page. I guess it's different when the words are your own - as a designer I assume she writing what she wants to say, her go-to phrases. But what I've seen of this idea would not work for me. I have containers with stars and hearts in them but everything else is stored using other systems.

She probably does design what she wants to use, but she also likely uses product simply to showcase it. Not because it’s fake, but she can make the product work for her. Because she’s a designer.

I keep all my Ali chipboard together. When I’m looking for chipboard accents I’m looking more by theme, and I will generally use more than one piece from a particular sheet.
I do this too with other brands, I tend to stick with one style/brand per layout. I’m sure that seems rigid to some but that’s the way I likes it.
