I know we've talked on here before about make up and being over 50. I feel like since I've had to wear a mask 8+ hours a day my skin has changed. I feel like my cheeks look more blotchy, larger pored, and crepey. OR it could just be I'm a yr older. ugh. So I'm pretty low maintenance. During the wk I just do a light liquid foundation on my forehead and under my eyes, since that's what people only see. But now going out to eat when my mask is off, I feel I need more coverage. I bought the elf poreless putty primer, and tried that today, and Eh.....? Maybe it needs to grow on me. I then did foundation and a mist setter. And I still feel blotchy. Can I get this without caking on a ton of make up?
What is everyone else doing lately? esp with bigger blotchy pores?

The trick to the Elf Poreless Putty is less is more. It takes only a small amount to do the work. I would focus on skincare before make up. Pore issues are something that really needs to start with skin care. I moved to medical grade skin care last year and it has seriously changed my skin. I buy all of my products from skin beautifulrx and there is always a coupon code. The site is owned and operated by a female and they do have doctors on staff for questions. You can even purchase a face time session with Leah to go over your skin care concerns.

I don't think its something that can be changed. I use a good moisturizer. Clinque in the AM, and drunk elephant at night, and wash with Cerave. I'm not broke out, or have black heads, or any of those things.

I just turned 50 and have really amped up my skincare routine focus on anti-aging. I need to find a good, hydrating under eye concealer if anyone can recommend one.
My makeup is super simple these days as my daily outing consists of walking the dog 😑 and I’m not on zoom or anything. I use a bb cream applied with a foundation brush, a little concealer, loose powder applied with a light hand. My favourite blush is Cloud Paint by glossier. It’s light and ultra blendable and gives a nice glow. Most days my eyes just get mascara. I have some incredible eyeshadow palettes but there’s no point, no one sees me.
I say focus on skincare. Find some products that focus on refining texture. Acids and peptides can work wonders. Start with The Ordinary. The price points are great, they have a wide product range, and consultants to help you develop a skincare regimen. Any improvement in your skin will make your makeup look better!

So if I used too much of the putty, what would it look like? Like gunk stuck in your pores. It basically accentuates them instead of hiding them.

I use a blender for some foundations (thick ones) and a brush for others (like Fenty), and for a couple only fingers are really necessary (such as It, which I might throw on quickly when I'm not doing a full face).

If the elf putty primer works the same as the Tatcha silk canvas, you have to kind of press it in rather than wipe or rub it in like you would a more liquid/cream formula. Dr. Brandt's Pores No More and Tarte's Timeless Smoothing Primer (in a little glass tub) are a couple of my favorite pore filling ones.
When I wear foundation, I use a Beauty Blender most often, but sometimes I'll use a brush to kinda buff it in. It just depends what foundation I use. I never use my fingers. I don't think I'd be able to blend it well enough.
Clarins tinted sunscreen & moisturizer is one of my favorite products right now. I put it over primer and then spot conceal if needed most of the time.

If the elf putty primer works the same as the Tatcha silk canvas Yes, this is suppose to be a cheaper version of Tatcha.

I sometimes use it (just where I need pore coverage), along with a moisturizing primer. I probably have at least a dozen primers, I'm obsessed with trying them. I always go back to Dr. Brandt's. That, and Smashbox Primerizer are the only ones I've repurchased multiple times.

Yep. I've used that. It did nothing for me. Couldn't even tell I used it. I also use the IT cc and I'm going to get away from that too. It seems to be settling in to my wrinkles more, esp the crepey skin under my eyes. It's just not working for me anymore.

The problem I have is not being able to see well enough to put on makeup. If I have my contacts in and try to on makeup, when I take my contacts out at night I am so embarrassed to see eye makup all under my eyes. Also, I used to be so into makeup before I had kids. I used Clinique eye shadow with the applicator that came in the shadow container. Now I have brushes. I feel like the applicator did a better job as when I use brushes, it falls off the brush and all over my face. Maybe I should go back to clinique? I maybe wear makeup 4 times a year! I would love to use makup more, but between not being able to see well, and not knowing how to apply makeup anymore, I really need help!

When is the last time you had your eyes checked?! Back in the day when I wore contacts I was always getting stuff in my eyes. LOL. Or look in to getting one of those make up mirrors? that magnify your face?!

Lighted magnified mirror is your friend, and maybe you need multifocal contacts. Those were a game changer for me no longer needing reading glasses.
If your shadow has lots of fallout, I'd ditch it and try something else. I had a Stila pallet with gorgeous colors but the fallout made it useless.
I'm very fond of Lancome and TooFaced and Kat Von D and most Urban Decay shadows. Anastasia can be hit or miss for me. Actually I've noticed the quality of TooFaced has gone down a bit recently, they better get it together.

Everyone is different though.

You might need to improve your skin’s texture in addition to applying make up. To improve appearance of skin I use: Retin-A at 0.025 strength (tretinoin cream) Vitamin C serum An exfoliant with alpha hydroxy acids Moisturizer
Make up consists of under eye brightener/ concealer, tinted moisturizer and bronzing powder on face.

I'm wondering if I need to do a retinol also. What do you use? I use a very mild one from Neutrogena. But it depends on your skin. If you are over 50 with dry skin, it is probably a good idea to start with something mild. And exfoliating should be gentle, several times a week. I would Google retinol creams for mature skin and see which one would work best for you.

I've always felt like I had a combo skin, but oily in the T zones. I never exfoliate.

I'm wondering if I need to do a retinol also. What do you use? I just thought of something. A lot of experts suggest using a moisturizer before putting on retinol cream. This is to prevent skin irritation. But if your skin is on the oily side, you might not need to. I use an oil free moisturizer in the winter when my skin tends to get dryer, but not in the summer. YMMV
