Hello! I saw a demo earlier today for the Cutterpillar trimmer. They are an expensive trimmer so before I make any purchasing decisions I wanted to see what the peas think. I really like the light feature but am concerned about how well it cuts.
Is it worth the money? Is it better than your Fiskar trimmer? I have always felt that my Fiskar isn’t cutting 100% straight but when I have tried other brands they didn’t work all that great either.
TIA!

I would try one out first. I used one at a crop and did not like it. Could not cut a straight edge, too much wiggle in the blade for me. I ended up buying a Fiskars Procision Rotary Bypass. It has a double rail so no wiggle in the blade. I haven’t used it much yet, but like it fine for the little cutting I’ve done.

I love mine. The light and ability to have more precise cuts is great. I originally got the Pro version on sale at Joanns (Black Friday sales AND it was cheaper than the smaller crop version). I like it so much, I ended up getting the Crop version to take to crops, so I can leave the bigger on my desk. I still use my Fiskars trimmer to gut paper, since the Cutterpillar can’t start in the middle of a paper.
There shouldn’t be any wiggle - you push the blade toward the cutting edge while you move it. Also, don’t pick it up by the bar - I guess that could cause it to loosen and maybe wiggle.

I love mine! The first time I used it, I didn't realize that you have to push the blade toward the cutting edge, and of course, it came out wonky and I was disappointed. But I quickly realized that you have to lightly push the blade in toward the edge, and it works perfectly. And the light feature has helped me make my cuts perfect.

I bought the crop years ago when it was a kickstarter. Then I got lucky and bought the bigger one on clearance at Hobby Lobby. I love them. They cut smoothly, evenly and the light is really helpful as I get older and my vision gets worse. You can slice off the tiniest of slivers. My only complaint is that there are no marks smaller than 1 inch because of the cutting plate. If the arm is not completely open on the crop, the cut might not be 100% straight. Otherwise, I’ve never had problems. The only Fiskars trimmers that I’ve used are a really old rotary trimmer and the kind with the sliding blade. Much better than either of those and you never have to replace the blade. I have 2 Genesis trimmers that I bought on eBay, but I prefer the cutterpillars.

I really love my pro too. 100% about pushing the blade. It took me a hot minute to figure that out but once I did, I was in love. It does cut the tiniest bits. I love the light. I bought my one for her birthday and she loves hers too.

I like mine. You do have to push the blade against the cutting edge. The light is nice and it can cut tiny slivers. That said, I also keep my Fiskars trimmer right next to it. I use both.

I have the crop version (bought during the kickstarter campaign). I love the light and how thin of slices you can cut with it. However, even though the blade says it's self-sharpening, I found after a year or so it started cutting rough edges. I keep meaning to see how to replace it, but haven't gotten around to emailing them.

I have one, I bought it when it first came out in Australia, so many years ago now.
I do not take it to crops or classes, I still use my old purple portable Fiskars trimmer for that just due to the size of it. It is however a great trimmer. I always use pencil marks on my paper to know where to cut so the ruler and markings don't affect me, it still cuts just as easily and smoothly as when I first got it and you can trim the tiniest sliver off. The light is great and I love that feature.
I do have one small issue with mine. I think either the ruler or the edge of the trimmer is ever, ever like so so slightly off, it is the smallest bit off but I know it is there and that annoys me from time to time on just certain projects. I could try and fix it but I live with it because its honestly such a fraction of a fraction off.

I have the Crop and the larger one. Use and LOVE both. They are my favorite trimmers (besides my 6" CM trimmer).

I have both the Cutterpillar Pro and the Fiskars Procision Rotary Bypass Trimmer. I loved the Cutterpillar Pro because of the light. I have vision issues, so the top engraved/molded measurement making were impossible for me to read. I ended up filling them in with black. I did find that I had a hard time with very thin scrapbook paper. I had a terrible time cutting it straight.
That led me to purchasing the Fiskars Procision Trimmer. It’s by far my favorite trimmer. My one and only issue is with the 5-1/2” mark. It’s in the fold of where the trimmer folds in half. I make a lot of layered cards and need to cut at that length often enough that annoys me to have to guess where that measurement lands in the fold gap. Other than that, I find the Fiskars to be very precise and cuts beautifully.
