Someone recently mentioned that it looked like AC pulled Maggie Holmes from Crate Paper, so I checked their IG. They have not posted for over a month. I wonder if that means the end of crate paper and they only chose to keep Maggie Holmes. The same thing they did with Pink Paislee and Paige Evans. I would be very surprised because I thought crate paper was a big seller.

I'm guessing it's just cheaper for them to have Maggie work with AC's house designers. They keep "the name" and lose the cost of maintaining the studio behind it.

From Simple Stories recent collections, it looks like they picked up a designer(s) from Crate Paper.

I love/loved Crate Paper. Generally the only brand I ever purchased from outside of SC/AE. I always seem to find things as they are already on their way out- I had the same experience with October Afternoon. I’m obviously bad luck!
I hope their aesthetic is recreated elsewhere - especially their Christmas lines.

I have no inside info, but this seems like a bad decision on AC's part. On the one hand, they have a ton of sub-brands so it kind of makes sense to whittle it down...but on the other hand, Crate Paper and Pink Paislee were two of the most well known! If you're going to rebrand, put Sticko/EK Success/BoBunny under the AC brand, not CP and PP! I don't really see how this would save them (much) money as the logos/sites/socials for these brands were already developed and in use. As to what msliz said, I have been under the impression that AC generally has a whole host of designers and they all work from the AC headquarters and for AC (not Crate Paper, Pink Paislee, etc). If they're still going to be releasing lines with the Crate aesthetic (which they should, it's super popular), then the designers will still be working, just not under the brand name, so it doesn't seem like it would change things from a staffing perspective.

Crate Paper's IG account goes dormant for several weeks if not months at a time regularly. This should not be a sign of the CPocalypse. I get frustrated year after year when I put up the Christmas collections and DD reveal threads since CP is one of the most anticipated releases. And still, they make me wait. They are completely quiet. On top of that, when Pink Paislee's social media went permanently hush, so did their AC blog. That is currently not the case for CP. CP is a major brand for AC. They sell very well under that name. I don't think it costs them much keeping the brand alive. The Christmas collections have several items sell out quickly every single year. Their 2019 Halloween collection, Hey Pumpkin, was such a hit that AC decided to rerun it without a single change in autumn 2020. Those are strong indicators of good health. On a final note, Jasmine Jones (from Studio Calico and Inked previously) announced on IG last May that she was becoming the designer for the Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper collections. I had wrongfully thought she had already taken over those lines due to aesthetics similarity. The loss of the previous MH + CP designer who left for Simple Stories is simply not an issue for AC. While she has since opened her new personal store, there is no mention on her social media that this is a last-minute change of plans or major change in life. It looks like she is replacing her previous, Catholic faith-based art shop with a nature-inspired one. https://www.instagram.com/p/CAMWUtmAso1 I see no reason to panic so far. And I'm the one who realised Pink Paislee had been permanently killed by AC and ran over here panting, screaming and crying. Let's hope I'm right this time, too. (If you do want to give in to panic, Jasmine designed PP's penultimate collection, Lucky Us, that was released for Valentine's Day last year so... ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/JvSt42CUoZ9LG952aAaF.jpg) )

Also, I thought Lucky Us was a really weird aesthetic for Pink Paislee, it would have made more sense as Crate Paper. It's not that it wasn't a good line, it just didn't fit my perceptions of their brand. If you had told me they were releasing a Valentine line, I would have thought of something like C'est La Vie + Moonstruck + Valentine's.

You were a thing of beauty. Jasmine mentioned designing for 1canoe2 and Shimelle, both brands having been to put to rest by AC in 2020. I just don't see them killing CP after transferring her to the CP + MH team. It looks like it would be one of the brands they'd keep focus on. We'll have to wait and see. Who knows with the pandemic? Still, I'd be surprised at this stage if CP was part of the AC death reaper plan of the last 18 months.

One of these days (hopefully when it's on sale), I plan to buy the collection at AC Digitals so I can print however much I want!

I am glad to hear that it may not be the end of crate paper. I started to scrap again in 2013 but didn’t really find them until a few years after that. I was able to find a good amount of older things at Tuesday Morning and have bought a lot of what has come out since.

I heard from my LSS that AC told her CP had been dissolved as they are downsizing. If true that is a real loss.

I love Crate Paper and Pink Paislee. Crate Paper is such a great brand with a sweet spot between cutesy and overly themed while still being modern, and is so popular you always have to strategize to buy before they sell out. Both Pinkfresh and Simple Stories are SMART to work on incorporating some that aesthetic.
Does AC not have someone who really "gets" the Crate Paper brand, and they overly rely on a singular designer viewpoint?
Crate Paper has such a loyal following and nice aesthetic range from over the years. AC should hire a product manager who can really grasp it and direct it into the future. Even for scrapbooking, Crate Paper has a bright future. Or sell the brand to a company that does value and "get" it. (Pink Paislee is another brand I think is valuable and has lots of untapped potential.)

Oh, that Happy Blooms collection is really pretty and has a very Crate feel, you're right.
I wondered about what had happened to them, as their IG has gone so quiet, but if that's normal for them, let's keep everything crossed that all is well.

Does AC not have someone who really "gets" the Crate Paper brand, and they overly rely on a singular designer viewpoint? The AC designers are on multiple brand teams within the AC universe. There appears to be a lead designer who follows and fits the aesthetic pitch AC has settled on. These designers move and change over time (some leave AC altogether as well). Looking back at CP, you can see the shift between the aesthetics. You can tell one aesthetic applied to CP in say 2016-2017 then gets recycled and applied to the now defunct Dear Lizzy brand afterwards and so on. It's very interesting but you need to take a good look at all the AC brands to start grasping the repetition and changes over time in terms of design style, colour schemes and the likes. I actually miss the slightly more hip, more crisp, thinner vector-lined and white background CP days from a few years ago. Pink Paislee, however, is dead and it doesn't look like AC are interested in selling the brand. It's just been relegated to the ACemetery forever. I'm upset. This was my fave under the umbrella. I also miss the days when AC released full paper lines under their own name. They often used it to test new aesthetics, design styles, metal foil finishes, etc. It wasn't always great (or very consistent) but it kept me interested.

I just have been happy with CP in general even as it has changed, and it has more flexibility (and loyalty) within the brand for future success. In fact, too many brands change too little for my taste, and feel like they should stick to "what was successful before". I think CP had been relatively adept at finding that balance between past success and fresh styles and themes.

I liked that old CP style a lot (before they merged under AC) and still have some things in my stash I need to quit hoarding and actually use. Not a fan of their recent aesthetic. I don’t like that SS and Pinkfresh have shifted to the CP aesthetic, because I liked their unique styles before - they stood out as a great alternative to the AC juggernaut of pink pink pink. I haven’t bought a single item from SS since the switch. I will still buy Pinkfresh designed by IACB, but not interested in the CP look. I’d be ok with them adding to their current lineup, instead of replacing their current lineup.
