Welcome to the back to the 2021 Organized 2PeasRefugees scrap challenge. It does not matter where you are in your journey of organizing you are welcome to join us and do a little or do a lot! Find a system that works for you and your space. How do you scrap and shop your supplies? Is your space tiny or a whole room? Do you live where there special considerations such as flooding or dust? There is not one way that is better than another, just what is best for your style and needs! This challenge is to encourage you to work towards a more organized crafting life, so that you can find what you purchased when you want to use it! My best rule of thumb is that it should not take more than three moves to get to what you want to use on your project. If you are on a team for the team challenges you can claim 10 points for each hour spent. The time does not need to be consecutive. Bonus of 1 point for each before and after photo. The following tasks will count towards the crafting organization: • Cleaning up after your latest crafting session (ie desk before, desk after) • Scrubbing or vacuuming the floor in your space. Dusting your space (I live in the desert next to a dirt road and own four German Shepherds so this is a regular event ) • Organizing a supply or completely re-doing your entire space. • Sorting, editing, backing up, or ordering photos. • Setting up page kits for photos or organizing the ones that you get as a monthly subscription with photos. • Essentially anything that is related to crafting that needs to be done to “spark joy”! (I’m not necessary a huge Marie Kondo fan . . . but she does have some good ideas!) The BONUS CHALLENGE for the month is organize or put away recently purchased embellishments. This can include pre-made flowers (think prima), bling, Tim Holtz stuff. Whatever you consider an embellishment. For organizing this type of product it is 20 points per hour.
This is what my current system looks like:
Not fancy but works for me!
Now for the BONUS NSBR CHALLENGE for March. Declutter your linen Cabinets. I have several in my home . . . so I need to do one at a time. A good rule of thumb is to keep two sets of sheets for each bed in your home, and two towels for each person. This allows for clean sheets even on laundry day, or when you need extras for guests! In my area I have different sheets for different seasons as we need flannel or fleece for winter and cotton for summer. I don’t have two sets of each of these though! You can thank gramma for this prompt!
Tip: Check with your local animal shelters, veterinarian offices, or even Petco. They will accept old bedding and towels, even in poor condition. What could be sweeter than a pup in need getting a cozy new bed?

In my area I have different sheets for different seasons as we need flannel or fleece for winter and cotton for summer. I don’t have two sets of each of these though! You can thank gramma for this prompt! I have been watching a lot of declutter videos lately and an alternative (minimalist) rule of thumb is to just have a spare set for each *size of bed* you have (assuming you do laundry fairly frequently, don't have to go to a laundromat, hang dry, or have multiple bed wetters in the house). Depending on the size of your home and the number of people who live with you that can dramatically reduce the number of sheets you have on hand! We also need different sheets winter and summer but I realized our "summer" is only about 2-4 months long, flannel sheets are on the bed from October until June most years, or we have a flannel bottom sheet with a cooler top sheet for part of that time. I realized that sets don't work for us so I buy sheets individually so we can have a spare flannel bottom sheet but only one cotton bottom, and one each of the top sheets. I envy people with linen closets! We have one shelf in the bathroom cabinet for towels. For bed linens (one bed in tiny bedroom) I broke my rule about not storing things under the bed and added a low rolling bin to store our bed linens. Our house was built without any hallways, so there's no magical hall closet to stash all the things. It forces minimalism on us. I'm focusing on using up more product this month so I'm not sure how much organizing I'll be doing, but there's always cleaning up to do!

Our house was built without any hallways, so there's no magical hall closet to stash all the things. It forces minimalism on us. no linen closets here either. Consequently we're already pretty minimal on sheets and towels. There are three sets of sheets for our bed but the set currently on it will be set aside for rags when they come off next - they've been mended several times and I just bought their replacement. The girls have two sets each and the guest room has one set. We each have 3 bath towels and 2 handtowels and the powder room has 4 handtowels. We also have one beach towel each. I need to get a set of towels (one bath, one hand, two flannels) for the guest room. The old handtowels from the girls' bath at the old house have been tossed - they weren't in great shape anymore so were used for cleaning and then discarded. towels are kept in the respective bathrooms - in the vanity cabinet. Sheets in the respective bedrooms. DD14 stores her spare sheets in a drawer in her bed base (captains bed), DD20 in a small tote, ours are in a cabinet section of my dresser. The guest room sheets are new so they are still in their package in the closet.

This is the challenge for me. Today I brought down piles and piles of product, mostly paper, to my family room, and used all surfaces, but mostly the floor, to sort into categories. I warned my husband and told him he could walk on it if he had to because there was literally no floor space. I slipped on paper piles a few times.
I found out my cousin is visiting tomorrow and she just got back from a year in the middle east, so I had to pile it all back up. My plan is to put the various piles away in iris cases or whatever I have to store by category.
My biggest challenge is those many items that don't fit a theme or don't speak to me with what type of photos I would want to use with it. I want to organize it in a way I am most likely to use it. So I am open to ideas about that.
My organizational efforts make me tired. There is just so much to deal with. Admittedly it is nice to actually see what I have. There's no product I've found actually make me excited, but just seeing what I have to use someday is strangely comforting.

Consider the ROYGBIV method for your papers that don't fit a theme?
This is how I do 75% of my Patterned paper, kept in collections. I have Iris boxes for bigger themes like Christmas, travel, sports, page kits.

I have two linen closets and neither has linens. I have fabric stored in one and the one in the master bath holds all my folded clothes.
My linens are in baskets on shelves above the toilet. It would be a really good idea to organize it as it is a mess. Something to aspire to maybe one basket at a time.

Well I have 6 places in my home where linens are stored. I am going through an area or two at a time. We have one twin bed left and about 6 sets of twin sheets. So of course paired those down. Also have some older flannel and cotton queen sheets not shown that are going as well. gramma didn't know how much I really needed to do this! Right now I have two heavy lawn debris size bags half full. Didn't want to over load them and have them bust open! LinenCloset by Neva Cole, on Flickr

I attacked my white cardstock scrap drawer today. I tend to keep offcuts of white because they’re useful for sentiments and I use the scraps pretty often, but not always as fast as I make new scraps. So today I put on some loud music while I had the house to myself and started die cutting as many as possible into basic stitched shapes. I used the extended plates on my die cutter and loaded as many different shapes and sizes into each pass as I could, and once I’d run out of scraps to fit the bigger dies I got out some banners and word dies and cut some of those too. I ran out of energy before I ran out of scraps, but I think I reduced the pile by about half, and a lot of what’s left it more suited to stamping single lines of small sentiments. I might set aside a session for doing that - it’s always handy to have little messages to add to cards. But the next task will be to stamp the pieces I cut today with my favorite bigger sentiments. Here’s a photo because why not? http://instagram.com/p/CMQf-UHpYj4

my next organising goal is dealing with my albums - I unpacked them onto shelves as they came out of the boxes so they are randomly scattered. That's NOT working for me so they need to go back into chronological order. It's a BIG project (five 8-cube units of albums) so should rack up some hours

four hours worth of work later - my albums are in chronological order - I need one more 8-cube unit (I had one more but DH broke it during assembly) because I have a few leftover albums but... I didn't take a before photo but I took an in-progress photo fairly early in the process and after The actual albums are complete - the random binders are in progress except for the purple, pink, and green in the lower right - they are my kids' first year albums and complete despite being in binders

spent two hours last night dealing with printed photos (2021) and uploading photos to print...only to have Amazon photos be uncooperative. Trying again this morning but I'm still getting the spinny wheel of frustration so...
There are still printed photos (2020) to deal with so perhaps that'll be the next project

Wow, that's a LOT of albums!! and a lot of work to get them all stowed and in order. I hope you gave yourself a treat and some rest after getting through that, although seeing all the albums in place was probably a nice treat in itself.

Still need to finish counting hours, but I finished returning pages to their albums after having them copied, and stowing the pages I creTed this month into albums. In the process I needed to reorganize my album storage. I am definitely going to need new shelves in a year, but right now I have enough room for albums up to right now, with room for four more. (on a shelf above these that was cut off in the photo). In addition to these albums, I have my earliest ones stowed away behind doors of a china cabinet in the living room, with my latest couple of years displayed on an open shelf there. The earliest of these on the open shelf will be shuffled up to the top shelf of the book case shown to make room for albums to summer of 2022.
