My old pink Sizzix Big Shot is still limping along but it may be time for a replacement. i don’t really want to buy from Sizzix so I’m looking at the Spellbinders Platinum. I like that the footprint is smaller and it seems like a good machine. I checked reviews on Amazon and the biggest issue seems to be that embossing folders, other than those made by Spellbinders, didn’t work in the machine. I’d really like some reviews from the Peas. Thanks.
Also, will it take the Sizzix plates? I still have a couple of the replacements.

I Don’t believe that is true about the embossing folders. Jennifer McGuire uses the platinum machine and they work in her videos.

Maybe you have to play with the 'sandwich' to get the best pressure but I dont see why embossing folders won't work in it.

I have the Platinum and I have to use a shim with embossing folders. Other than that I really like it.

until recently, i had a CB for years. your post got me curious so i had to watch a couple of youtube videos on the machines. it's very interesting. seems sturdy and streamlined.
on another thread talking about craft regrets, i said i regretted getting rid of my original bright green CB. i recently got a newer CB only because i came accross a fantastic deal i couldn't pass up. i sold my original CB and immediately regretted it. the new CB doesn't seem as well made. they seem aesthetically nicer but not as solid as the old one. not too long after that i came across a Big Shot Foldaway on FB marketplace. an impulse moment later, i now own a big shot. i have to say, the big shot is a very solid machine. i never owned one before because i didn't have the room to store a machine that didn't fold up. i'm really happy with the foldaway. now i have to sell my recently acquired CB. i swear, i am a revolving door of craft machines. LOL

hmmm.... that might explain why my Spellbinders embossing folders don't work very well in my Big Shot...
I love the look of this machine and the footprint, but I was hesitant to buy it because (a few years back) there were so few reviews. That was before sizzix started suing everyone. I'm interested to hear if it's good even though I don't plan to ditch my BS.

My old Spellbinder machine has finally bitten the dust - the handle has cracked and will break off soon, but I got 19 years out of it so I'm ok with that. Interested to hear feedback about the Platinum since that is the machine I'm planning to replace my old one with.

I think all the machines need shims for something or other. I also have a Gemini but I rarely use it for embossing folders. It has so much pressure sometimes the image gets smashed.
My Sizzix is probably close to 15 years old. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of it but it’s starting to creak and it’s a bit warped even with few plates. I won’t buy from Sizzix due to that lawsuit they filed against 5 smaller companies. (I wonder what happened with that.)
