He was fascinated by the placenta with our first baby. My second was an emergency section due to prematurity and he was at work teaching 40 minutes away. I had general anesthesia and he was with me in the recovery room and then I asked him to stay with the baby in the NICU as much as possible because I had a fever and couldn't be with her then.

My then husband was there for all 3. He accidentally stood up with our first, amd saw beyond the curtain amd sat right back down and said I didn’t want to see that. Lol he never did that again. The nurses did take pictures of our firstborn coming out of me and I cherish those pictures but yeah it’s a little unsettling.
I asked the dr what he was doing just to make conversation during the first one and he said “inspecting your ovaries before I put them back”. I never asked any more questions again.

DH wanted to observe but my OBGYN made him stay on my side of the curtain. I’m sure they’ve had their share of fainting husbands. The thing is, DH avoids doctors and shots like the plague. I'm sure it was just bravado.

I had two emergency sections and my hubby watched both times. The anaethesiologist kept asking him to sit down cause they were afraid he would pass out (he didn't) they had to get my husband a chair for my my first vaginal birth (I had 4.) I can't imagine what he would've done for a c-section.

DH was with me (35 years ago) but I was draped so he couldn't see anything. DS was breech and after he was delivered my OB/GYN said my uterus was strangely shaped and that's probably why DS never turned. He asked DH if he wanted to see my uterus and DH popped up and looked. I was SO jealous!! I wanted to see it too. According to DH it looked kind of like the shape of a princess telephone but he was on such a high it could have looked like anything.

I had 2 c-sections and DH was there for both (thanks to the anesthesiologist who realized both times that they were starting and DH hadn't been let in yet...) I don't remember if he had the opportunity to look over the curtain, but I'm guessing he wouldn't have taken the chance to look. Me on the otherhand...I would have wanted to see and would totally have paid to have a video copy if that would have ever been an option!!!

I didn't have a C-section but there is no way he would have watched that. Even for the vaginal births he never left my head. Haha neither of us really wanted to watch that. They kept trying to give me a mirror--no thanks.

My XDH was with me, but my side of the curtain. He just about fainted when I started haemorrhaging and he noticed that the bottoms of the staff’s trousers were soaked in blood. He was hurriedly removed from the theatre at that point.

My husband was excited to watch my c-section (he was a surgery tech). In fact, he basically ignored me and watched the whole procedure. Everyone, including the doctor was surprised to see my 10 lb son! No wonder I pushed for two hours with no progress 😆.
This was 32 years ago so not nearly the technology today. Although, my daughter just had a 9 lb baby (2 weeks early!) which was also a surprise to her OB.

With my first c-section, DH had the camera. He was at my head and started to sit down. I told him to stand up and get pictures! My most favorite picture of all time came from him then. My DD ended up needing the NICU and he asked me what he should do. I told him to go go go with our baby. So, he left while they stitched me up. I didn’t get to even SEE my DD for 4 hours! My parents saw her before me! She spent 3 days in the NICU. With my second, I think we forgot the camera. He was at my head and put my DS on my chest while they stitched me up. DS was by my side from that point on. Pic of my DD....

I had a planned c-section with Ds 20 years ago. Dh was there, but had no desire to see anything. I, on the other hand, pleaded with the anesthesiologist to adjust the curtain and mirror. I loved every bit of it. He was stuck a bit in the canal, so they had to the him out. It was so strange to see my body come up off the table, but not be able to feel it.

DH had almost fainted during birthing class when they showed a movie with blood. They weren’t taking chances on having two patients during my son’s birth, so he was told to remain seated on my side of the screen.

2 c-sections.
My dh is a pedi who attends sections weekly to attend to the newborns so he was fine. In fact he was too fine. Very interested in watching them cut me open / talking to the docs and nurses he k we well while forgetting to focus on me 😩. I closed my eyes. The first time I remember screaming - don’t you put up a sheet. The whole time I’m asking for a sheet but it was a rush.
The planned section was a much more relaxed feel so with 2nd dd who was planned we have the best pics. I have pics of her inside, head out, arms out, etc. I’m glad there was a sheet for dd 2 though. I didn’t want to see anything cut or bloody.

DH was totally checking out the business end of things and thought it was completely amazing. I, on the other hand, said I didn't want to see anything or even be told about what they're doing at all - just bring me a baby when she's out.
We had a bit of a standoff at first, because I have a major needle phobia, and the anesthesiologist was being a dick and trying to make DH leave before he'd do my epidural. My water had broken 5 hours prior (and 3 days before my scheduled C), but I never had a contraction since then that would even have changed my walking pace and I had not dilated at all (not even "fingertip"). So, I was like listen guys - it's my understanding that you have to do this before you can do a C, but I'm feeling absolutely FINE right now, so I can wait however long we need to wait for you to understand that this is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN without DH here. DH was like listen, I've done surg tech work (he's a paramedic), I get that you don't want me to mess up your sterile field, and I'm not going to faint. And she (me) pretty much invented stubborn, so unless you want to be here all night, you're probably stuck with me. My OB intervened and convinced them to go ahead.

From my recollection of both my c sections my husband was sitting next to me, around head level on my side of the curtain. I don’t think the doctor and nurses would want a person watching over their shoulder.

My ex was with me for both of my c-sections ... he sat at my head and couldn't see over the curtain ... I don't think he would have wanted to see what was going on down there!

None here, but it wouldn't have bothered him. He was a nurse and EMT in the military at the time. He lived for gore!

My first, almost 33 years ago, was an emergency c-section. Xh would have liked to have been in the OR, but it wasn't allowed. I couldn't even have a bikini cut as they were in a hurry to deliver my son. With my dd, the dr insisted on a VBAC, so I was induced three weeks early and then labored in the OR, just in case. She ended up stuck in the birth canal, so while the dr used a vacuum and forceps, a nurse and my xh were pushing on my stomach to get her out.

My husband refused to look all 4 times. I begged him to look so he could give me a play by play or at least hold the camera up at an angle and start snapping pictures that I could see later. Nope. He doesn’t do big medical things. Kid #4 was supposed to be my c-section with the drape and immediate chest contact. I had it all planned with one particular baby. Fucking preeclampsia struck again (3rd time!!!) and baby had to be taken out by whoever. I got a standard c-section, and I’m still pretty bummed about it. Ah well.

My hasbad thinks all the medical stuff is awesome and my doctor talked to him In detail about what she was doing and showed him. I heard her say as she pulled out my uterus “look how quickly it shrinks back down, isn’t it amazing how it works!.” Seriously, I couldn’t believe I had to listen to a play by play of my operation. Omg. I would have LOVED that!!!

My first c section was traumatic. After 24 hours of labor and failed forceps. My husband was put in a room by himself and told nothing. It was a long wait for him. I was put under general anesthesia and woke up disoriented.
Pretty sure we both met criteria for ptsd after. It was a terrible time. Second one was planned, I think he had a chair by my head and all went well.
I count myself lucky to have survived childbirth twice in this country. Sometimes jealous of my friends in other nations who had good experiences.

My second kid decided they were going to be a breach baby so had my first c-section. My husband is fine with gory stuff like that.
