with you and how did they handle it as far as basically viewing an operation along with the birth of your baby?
My husband was fine. He told me all about it, in detail later. I was just glad I wasn't the one watching, I don't do blood and can't watch medical shows etc. It's only because dd has type 1 diabetes that I can now handle seeing needles going into skin and small amounts of blood. The first few times I had to give her a shot, I was nauseous and scared to death.
I was just reading about c-sections somewhere and thought of this.

I've had 3 C-sections and my DH was in the OR each time and did fine although I don't think he actually stood over the curtain and watched the entire procedure.

Mine was emergency and my husband was in there, but he stayed on my side of the curtain. He doesn't do well at all with blood, etc.

DH was in the operating room 11 years ago when DS was delivered via c-section. If he watched over the curtain, it's nothing we've ever discussed.

DH was in the OR with me and had the option to watch the delivery. I don’t think he watch the part where they cut me open, but he did watch DD being pulled out. (I on the other hand wanted to see NONE of it, eww. I was knocked out cold.) He did say that it was surreal seeing his wife “basically gutted like a deer.”

My hasbad thinks all the medical stuff is awesome and my doctor talked to him In detail about what she was doing and showed him. I heard her say as she pulled out my uterus “look how quickly it shrinks back down, isn’t it amazing how it works!.” Seriously, I couldn’t believe I had to listen to a play by play of my operation.  |

My husband was in the room, but didn’t look over the curtain. He was grossed out enough by my first baby’s vaginal birth that he didn’t want to see any of that again.

I had a C section with the twins. DH was fine with all aspects of the operation except when they cut me open. He asked to not be in the room when that happened. They brought him in right after and all was well!

I had two emergency sections and my hubby watched both times. The anaethesiologist kept asking him to sit down cause they were afraid he would pass out (he didn't)

My ex watched both. He was fascinated. He gave me a play-by-play of the first one after we were back home. Definitely could have gone my whole life without knowing any of those details. LOL

I had 3 c-sections and DH was in the room all 3 times. With the first one (way back in 1983) they couldn't get the epidural to work (thanks to the RA on my spine) so I was under general anesthesia. DH watched the whole thing and was asking questions - "What's that?". I was awake for the other 2 and had them drop the curtain after the initial cut and I watched the rest. Pretty amazing. I'm still shocked that DH watched all 3, he usually gets lightheaded when he sees blood.

He was there for all 3, watched and was fine. I was able to watch in the reflection of a burned out lamp for #2 and it was fascinating to me.

Yes he was. With my ds, they prematurely told him to look and he got full view of on my innards laid out on top. LOLOL He was fine though. With twins, it was pretty hectic but he was in there. I'm not sure what he saw that time to be honest. LOLOL

My sister had a c-section on Feb. 9 and due to COVID, her husband wasn't allowed, so he had to sit in her room and wait for her. He said the silence was the worst part! I think he would have been super queasy in there, as he's never been around a hospital (let alone any babies!) before this.

I did not, but DH would have been all over wanting to watch that! He insisted on getting a good viewing spot when I had my port removed. It had been in for two years so there was a lot of scar tissue to remove to get to it. He even kept the port as a souvenir and took it into work to show people. 😂 He was also impressed that they stitched me up even though half the incision wasn’t numb. At that point I just wanted it done and told them to finish and I’d grit my teeth through the pain. I love being a guinea pig at a teaching hospital! I swear I’ve been examined by every GYN resident that came through UNMC for 12 years. I have a huge divot on my chest from all the tissue that had to be removed.

Mine is weird and would have thought it was so cool to see me sliced open and everything, but it was a traumatic emergency c-section so he spent the very short couple of minutes trying to keep me calm.

I've had four C-sections. DH did fine during all of them. He liked watching and probably seemed calmer than I was.

My husband was there for both of mine. I'm sure he watched everything. The anesthesiologist narrated everything that was happening both times and I appreciated that!

I had 2 C-sections. One scheduled (27 years ago) and one emergency (24 years ago.) My ex was in the room for both. I cannot remember if he looked or not; I can't even remember if he cut the cord.

DH was there for mine. He had to put on scrubs and wash up and was then lead in and told where to sit. It was an emergency C/S and he must have come in either shortly before or after the initial cut. I can’t remember if he cut the cord, but did go with DS to the NICU. He said that when he looked back at me, all my innards were out on the table. Other than that, he was fascinated. I know he hadn’t wanted to leave me, but I’d made him promise weeks before that he would go with DS if needed.

I didn't have a c-section, but my husband was in the room when the kids were born. But he didn't "watch", I didn't want him to and he didn't want to either. I told him if he was the one having the baby, I would have preferred to wait outside in the lobby! Obviously neither of us are in the medical field!  But my kids are in school to be a nurse and a Physician's Assistant. They certainly didn't inherit that from us! They got that from my grandmother, a nurse! |

My sister was with me during my C-Section -- I recall she said "ten fingers. ten toes. I need air." .... and slid down the wall in a sitting position!
She was fine.

My C-section was not planned, but we knew it would be a possibility with a twin birth. We discussed it ahead of time, and neither DH nor I had any desire to watch the actual procedure. He was with me, but there was a curtain hiding the blessed event, and they brought the babies around to see us.
DH passed out when I got my epidural (seriously, he hit the floor!), so I can't imagine what viewing a C-section would have done to him!

I've had three, and yes, XH was there for all of them. For the first one, he thought it was so cool that he started to describe to me what they were doing as it was happening. I squashed that quickly. I didn't want to know. Thankfully he didn't do that with the other two.

I had two and he was there for #1, but I could tell his nerves were a bit jangled. #2, he wasn’t, but I don’t remember why. It was a strange day.

DH wouldn't look over the sheet. He was trying not to pass out w/out seeing anything. If he had looked over the sheet he would have gone down like a ton of bricks.

DH was with me and trying to be attentive. My doctor kept calling him over to look at my fibroid which seemed a little weird to me. DH is not squeamish so he handled it just fine.
