We've been 2 days a week since the school year started, (younger kids have been 5 days a week for some time) just got the announcement that everyone is headed back to 5 days a week. This has been discussed as a rumor ad nauseam for weeks now, so I'm not surprised.
the surprise? they're starting a week before spring break. I emailed DSs teacher to confirm that there will still BE a spring break, because to bring everyone back, then have a break for a week seems crazy to me, but I'm not an educator (though I've been working (poorly) as one since August).

My school is trying to do this as well. They've sent out a bunch of surveys and are waiting on approval from the health department. The kids that are hybrid will probably be back 100% soon. The kids that are currently 100% remote don't have an option to change. Which is fine by me, we've finally gotten into the groove and going to school would mean changing teachers at this point in the year. But it kinda sucks that we aren't given the choice at all.

We have been 100% remote for almost a year. But our high school is scheduled to go back hybrid in a couple weeks assuming our county hits the red tier.

They’re discussing it here. Currently the elem is 4 days a week in person and middle and high school are two day hybrid/split into cohorts.
Or fully remote for the whole year.
Meanwhile the numbers in the state and county are ticking up again this week.
My two would be content to finish the year hybrid, then start fresh in the hopefully better numbers fall. But they are both doing ok academically and hanging in their emotionally and I’m privileged to be able to be home with them. I don’t know how many others are struggling through...
Going back, having spring break with the travel etc that will likely occur, then back to full in person doesn’t seem sound.

Our district has been 100% remote and today the elementary went back. Secondary will begin hybrid on 3/18 assuming we move to the red tier (our numbers are already there, it’s just not official). So 2 half days a week for approx 8 weeks of the school year 🙄.

This is all so strange to me living in a republican state. My kids were back full time on day 1 this year. They had two times when they went remote for a couple of weeks around the holidays. My son was never quarantined, but the girl next door got quarantined 5 times! As far as they can tell, there was no spread at the schools. Most people we know from the school are mask deniers so I’m not surprised they got it outside of school. The kids had to wear masks at all times except lunch. They didn’t even have smaller class sizes. 2500 kids in a high school everyday.

My 8th grader has been full time since OCT
My sophomore started hybrid in October but was not excelling academically. He got permission from administration to go in person 5 days a week starting in January. Admin is now “encouraging” other students who are not excelling to come 5 days a week as well.
Our district overall has not been very successful with remote/hybrid learning. The failure rate has skyrocketed. I’m worried for not only my son, but all of the kids.

The timing of that is weird. You'd think they would start after break.
We have been full in person K-12 since day 1 and it has been great for my kids. We just started back up with sports and all of their extracurriculars too!
Good luck!

My oldest son's district finally went to a full-time option last month after the state legislature passed a law requiring schools to offer 5 day in-person as an option (all districts are required to offer an online only option too). The law mostly affected metro/urban schools because most of the districts (public and private) in the state have been full-time since the start of the year. Thankfully the district learned their lesson and didn't fight the law like they did in the fall when they started the year online in violation of state law--the kids already have enough days to make up from that time.

We were 2 days a week until Oct., then 5 days a week. All the kids had parties, gatherings, etc. and we had so many cases in the school so it shut down for 2 months.
Went back to 2 days a week in Jan. and it went well, not many cases. The teachers aren't vaccinated here (may be this month) but parents rallied to open schools 5 days, so they did. My daughter is a senior and she was so upset. She liked cohort, they were distanced and she felt safe. She is all remote now, her choice. If she has to quarantine because of contact tracing, the entire family does. We didn't want to go through that again, and she would have to miss her dance competitions (which we pay hundreds of dollars for, no refunds). One of her friends is in quarantine from close contact at school and one of her teachers just tested positive (also got it at school).
If we were in an area where people wore masks and took covid seriously, she would feel safe in school. But in our area, there are too many think covid is like the flu and don't wear masks. It's not enforced, so they can spread their germs everywhere.

The last day for our kids was March 13th, and I think most in the state closed around then too. Not sure if some schools went back after 2 weeks in our state.

My DS has been in school fulltime since September. He was quarantined once in October, got Covid himself the first week of November and the day before he was released to go back, the whole school went online until after Thanksgiving break. We just got the weekly update from the high school and there are currently 0 active cases at the school.
They have reported much fewer cases than I had anticipated at the beginning of the year, but I think a lot of parents just weren't testing their kids. Only athletes have required testing. (maybe other extracurriculars, I just haven't seen mention of it)
I am surprised they are bringing the kids back for a week before sending them on break, but maybe they've been told they need a certain number of days in school for funding or something like that?
