ETA.. HR 1Remember that call trump made to Georgia’s SOS and an election official where he wanted them to find 11,000+ votes the number he needed to be declared the winner even after Joe Biden had already been declared the winner? Well it seems tonight the Governor of Georgia just signed the bill that will give legislators the power to do what trump wanted. Rachel just outlined what this bill will do. And she is pissed again tonight. I can’t say that I blame her These stupid backward states , all red by the way, have been very busy finding ways to stop the “wrong kind of voters” from voting by using a nonexistent excuse of rampant voter fraud. Now I , silly me, happen to think that everyone who is eligible to vote should be able to vote without these ridiculous obstacles that make it hard for who the Republicans see as “the wrong kind of voters” to actually vote. It seems the last hope of any sanity prevailing when it comes to elections is the passage of H.R. 1. Which brings me to the question in the poll I’m adding. Do you think HR1 should be passed? A copy of the bill is linked above if you care to take a look. These days I hate it when a Republican is elected. But it would never enter my head to find ways to stop Republicans from voting. If anything I try and push folks who vote third party and who don’t vote to vote and vote for one of the two candidates that will win in a general election so their vote counts. Preferably for a Democrat but if not just vote even if it’s for a Republican. What I don’t understand is why “We the People” in the states where the legislators are pushing through bills that will restrict a person right to vote allow them to do it. I know there are people fighting it, but not enough. These fools wouldn’t be doing it if they thought “We the People” would throw their collective asses out of office. Restricting a person’s right to vote for no reason other then to make sure one side wins elections is cheating. And it seems more then a few Americans are ok with it.

We should make it easier for everyone. register at senior yr of high school, mail in voting (oregon and other states seem to do fine with it).. in new zealand, you can vote at any polling place for like a week.. make it simple. searching for voter fraud is a waste of money... and there is no reason not to have extensive access to the polls for evenings, weekends so no one is denied the chance.. and if you want to require id, provide the funds for free id and make staff available to help you navigate any problems. my dad had a tough time getting a passport cause his birth cert said "baby boy" and he had to find a relative to attest to the fact that he was that baby boy. he had one relative who was very old.. one. I don't know what would have happened if that relative was not available. people who are released from prison should be given id before they leave.. there are all sorts of problems.. and making it illegal to give people water??? and making them wait in long lines?? totally stupid.

Ok I’ll bit. What does your cryptic comment and the thread you posted have to do with a thread about an entirely different topic? This thread is about stopping the Republicans from putting up barriers to make it harder for people to vote. And yes I believe all eligible people should vote and that in the general election people should vote for one of the two people who will win and not some third party candidate that doesn’t have a snowball in hell chance of winning. The 2016 election drove that home. While the thread you posted was about... “ Note: I used “special interest groups” because I couldn’t think of a better term to describe a group of individuals, whether they’re male or female, young or old, white or folks of color, college educated or not who put their own personal interests before the best interests of the country for the upcoming election. I don’t think this country can stand another 4 years of trump. And while Biden and whoever he picks for his VP might not be our individual choice, if that ticket wins we can at least stop the damage trump/GOP are doing and start moving the country in the right direction. So now, IMO, is not the time for any of us to stamp our feet and threaten to take our marbles and leave if this ticket isn’t exactly the way we want it. What we must do is to turn out & vote regardless who Biden picks as his VP.
I’m sure in your mind there is some correlation between the two threads, care to share?

Your predictable nature is one I don’t think any pea would argue with. Anyone reading the threads knows what point I am trying to get across even if you want to feign ignorance

Is the ACLU fighting these laws? If so, I'm donating.

I don’t know if the ACLU will be fighting these laws. But somehow this guy is involved with the suits that are filed. He is a lawyer but I don’t think he is filing them. Maybe he is acting as a consultant....

It's embarrassing. Republicans have gotten to the point where they sincerely feel entitled to be a permanent ruling minority. Democrats aren't just people with different policy ideas, but illegitimate; whatever you do to try to prevent people from voting for them is justified because they should not be permitted to win elections in the first place.
While I appreciate no longer worrying that the executive is going to do something rash and horrifying, we're still headed towards some dark times here.

If you had to guess what do you think would be happening if America had a better grasp on its treatment of Black citizens?
How has not tackling the issue permeated issues that affect all citizens?
How do we fix it?

i think this last election cycle left a bad taste in people's mouths. these not so subtle acts of voter suppression that i'm hearing about is really disturbing. your can practically smell the fear and desperation from certain groups who want to suppress the vote.
