Y’all must live in nicer places than me. I was thinking lake mud, cigarette smoke, stale cheap beer and meth.

Childhood home: mostly fresh air with regular whiffs of manure and a top note of poverty. Towards the bottom of the candle you might catch the scent of ocean breeze, salt water and rotting fish.
Current home: freshly cut glass, entitlement and privilege.

When I was a kid in the 70’s, my hometown smelled like a combination of smog and meat packing plant depending on the day and the direction the wind was blowing. If we tagged along with my mom on grocery day, she would go downtown to the scratch and dent grocery store and the bakery outlet store by the bread factory and you could smell fresh baked bread as you drove past.
Later on when I was married and lived farther north, at the right time of year if the wind was coming from the right direction, you could smell all the fried food from the State Fair.

My hometown would have an odd mixture of scents. I grew up in Downey, which has a huge history in aviation and the space program. They built 13,000 airplanes during World War II, then in the 50s, transitioned to missile technology focusing on the Apollo Space Program. And the plant was a pioneer in hiring women to work in the airplane factory. It also has the oldest McDonald's that is still in operation. It was also the site of the first Taco Bell. The building is still there, but it isn't a Taco Bell any longer. I guess we were big on fast food.
So I guess my candle scent would be factory, fries, and freeways.

Freshly cut hay, cow sh*t, and desperation.
ETA: I forgot there's a potato chip factory there. So it also smells like potato chip grease.

The town I live in now would be more pine straw and the overpriced sweat of Lululemon yoga pants, with an understory of Keeping Up With The Joneses finished with some kind of flowering thing that smells exactly like Flonase and I have yet to discover what it is.
Seriously, what is that plant that smells like Flonase? It's in the park behind my house but I can't find the source. I haven't used Flonase in a few years, so it's not me.

Over ripe oyster shells in the sun. Oysters are our industry.
