I wonder if they’re a bonded pair. My younger dog would simply not know what to do without his big sister. She decides when they go out and when they come in. Reminds me of a picture my sister in law took of my niece in the corner and her baby brother right next to her because he did everything she did!

That's very sad, but it's the right call if Major has bitten someone. I hope they can come back sometime if Major's disposition and training allow. But it must be a big change for some adopted dogs to go from the quiet familiar to suddenly having strangers around at all hours in a new place.

I have had dogs my entire life and I've trained many dogs. I can't imagine the level of disruption that living in the White House would bring to their lives. Animals are sensitive to new people and experiences and you can't reason with them either. Shelter animals, which I have, have histories which make them even more sensitive. It would be one thing if the Bidens got a puppy and the puppy was raised there. I feel nothing but empathy for the Bidens and the dogs for having to separate a bit.

It doesn't sound like anyone is being ripped away from the only family they've known. It sounded to me like they need to go back to the quiet environment they are familiar with for a while. President Biden has lived in numerous places over the years, and his dog has been very adaptable. Major isn't a bad dog - he was probably put into a stressful situation and as a shelter dog, reacted badly. He needs more training and less stress. Which is exactly what he'll get.

I just saw that they are coming back, probably because Dr. Biden, who is traveling, will also be returning. I suspect that more training is in store for Major.

The facts are
There was a biting incident with a security staff member.
Both dogs go to Delaware whenever the First Lady is traveling.
The First Lady is currently traveling.
My guess is thst the dogs will return to the WH when the First Lady does and that Major will receive some additional training. Or maybe the security team member will.

Do they have a house/dog sitter that stays with the dogs at the house in Delaware? At least Delaware isn't too far from DC, so hope they can see the dogs often. My current German Shepherd prefers being at home, it would be hard for the dogs to have such a big adjustment. But I hope whatever they figure out works well for Champ and Major and the Bidens! I'm sure they will really miss their sweet dogs.

I can't imagine how stressful the move has been for Major. GSDs are very protective of their owners, and as a recent rescue, any sort of upheaval for Major can be traumatic. The Bidens are good owners and familiar with the breed, so I'm hopeful that he'll receive appropriate training when they return.
