I wouldn't say that I am a huge fan or even know much about the cars/SUVs except one of my very BF's husband LOVES them. He started out just looking at them a few years ago, making spreadsheets, test driving.. that's where I come in. We all went out to have a test drive (which are free) and you get the car for one hour. Take it anywhere you want within that hour. So the end of last summer, we test drove two of them. I had the MOST expensive one (which was insane) and the other was the SUV one.
OMG it was so awesome... soooo fast.... It does things you would never dream about. I had so much fun (as did the others)... But for me, that's where it ends. boohoo... but for my friend.. he just special ordered one.. NOT the most expensive one.. haha.. but I am sure it was a pretty penny.
So he got it last week and their family and us are in the same bubble (we only meet with them outside our household)... that car was fun to ride in... no motor so no sound, no dashboard really, everything done on this iPad looking thing. One of the funny things were that he could set up a 'farting' sound.. so you could use it with the blinker or when someone sits down. There were all kinds of goodies. It would show the streetlights coming up to you, or people on the road or sidewalks, the lines on the street.. it drives for you with no hands.. and using almost no breaks. It's crazy.
I am happy for him though... they are the nicest most generous humble people ever... he went from mowing (his now wife) grass to marrying her, having one kiddo between them, adopting two other girls plus her two older kids from a previous bad abusive marriage to owning now his third or forth business.. I can't keep track.
If you have have the chance for fun to ride or drive one.. do it.. it is amazing. (in my opinion of course)

They are nice cars and I had considered getting one. But I refuse to give a single cent to anything Elon Musk is involved with.

My niece drives a Tesla. Her grandkids love the farting noise.

That must be a new model. My parents have the original model S, my sister has one and so does my brother. I'm the odd duck and have no desire for one at all. But their earlier models do not have the fart noise nor the self driving mode as far as I know. I do like driving in them, they are so quiet and accelerate so quickly.

My sister-in-law has one and loves it. Dh was coming close to buying one (his commute into the city is horrendous), but then the pandemic and he's been working for home. We hardly have a need for a car at all, let alone a new one.
But, now he is in love with the Mustang Mach-e. He's like "Tesla who?" when he sees this car. He knows his current car is his last gas vehicle.

I test drove one. Although it drove great, I hated having to dig through computer screens to find various controls. I don't like having to look down and concentrate while I'm driving - I just knew that I'd crash the car while trying to figure out how to turn on the heat. I'm also in the anti-Elon Musk group.

The Tesla is nice, but I am really trying to hold out for the Rivian but with working at home, is helping hold out and waiting for them to come on the market

I think they are beautiful cars. I love the design. However, out of my price range. I’d buy one in a minute if I could afford one.

When I was test driving I really got freaked out about all the computer button pushing stuff. If I could afford one and bought one, it would take me forever to remember how to navigate the thing. Thankfully my friend's husband rode with me while I was driving, so he was the button pusher so I could 'watch' the road (although the model I was driving, did it for me which that in itself freaked me out) I could see I could figure it out, but it would take a hot minute to do so.. lol Not that I am for or against Elon Musk.. I get it... He's nutty but a genius too.

Future SIL has one and he loves it. I've been in it when a car has suddenly pulled out in front of us and that car reacted quickly, I was amazed! He loved it so much he bought DD the SUV but it didn't work for her and her lifestyle because she's not a planner and found herself frequently too far away from a Tesla approved charger and she hated that. SIl has no problem because he doesn't commute really and the lot he works on has a charging station for Teslas.
Plus she had some issue with it not being compatible with her iPhone or something so she got rid of hers and got something else. I thought the coolest thing though was the total light and sound show it would put on. So crazy futuristic these cars.
