Hey everyone, I ran across this list today on Oprah Daily dot com and was happy to see our hobby discussed in a main stream online publication. The article is called, "25 Scrapbook Ideas for Beginners and Experts Alike." Link HereFirst paragraph of this article says, "With so many digital memory-keeping archives—from social networks like Instagram and Facebook to wireless photo frames—you may wonder if scrapbooking is still a popular activity. We're here to provide a resounding "yes." Though the craft may not be quite as widespread as it once was, plenty of us still prefer to preserve things offline." What do you all think of this list?

I thought it was fine, kind of a "scrapbooking lite" type of thing. I tend to think of scrapbookers in two categories. One is not better than the other.
One is the "obsessed with paper crafting" type. You first saw a scrapbook, or someone fed you the CM crack in about 1997. You never looked back. You cut out letters after tracing them from your stencil. Or you saw someone's scrapbook from then and they sucked you into the club. No amount of stickers is too small. You love the smell of glue and the first thing you ask a new person you meet is, "Do you by any chance scrapbook??" Finally, your bookshelves groan under the weight of your scrapbooks. When you die, they will find you buried under all your paper. The other is the "make a cute book every so often" scrapper. You like pretty paper and washi. You don't want to get super messy and have lots of tools that sit around and collect a lot of dust. While scrapbooking is fun, you don't think about it in the middle of the night. It's fun to scrapbook with others, but you don't scrap until 3 am, go to bed and get up at 8 to do it all over again. Archivers going out of business was sad, but it didn't make you want to lie in bed, wondering where your life had gone. I think this article is geared toward scrapbooker #2. I think if you are on this message board, you either fit the scrapper #1 profile, or have been there at some point in time. Anyway, I thought the article was cute, although I am a bit unsure about the "Scrapbooking Jar". Won't the photos get bent? All that said, it's nice to see scrapbooking get some love.

Nice to see some scrappy love for our hobby! I do like that the article linked to tutorials for each project - and they even found a use for odd zebra paper many of us struggle with. 😂

It was nice to see it included modern representations of scrapbooking and the different ways/sizes we scrap today. Maybe we'll get some new recruits. Clearly I'm team #1.

Okay, so I am definitely the CM crack addict who has expanded into all the other pretties... Thanks for that image, @kendramage. And thanks to my original pusher, justjac. But there were still ideas in there that made me think, hmmm... that might be fun... I think it's great that Oprah chose to showcase our craft. Not sure how many young people would come in contact with this. Maybe my dgd's when they try to divide my scrappy stash among them after my funeral will google scrapbooking, and these ideas will resonate with them. And these ideas are great for the person whose scrappy life is in transition. The kids have left home and no grandkids yet. Downsizers who can't "take it with them" to the small appartment. "Travel journals aren't alot of fun if you can't travel" kinda scrappers. Or event scrappers with no events to scrap, PL weekly recorders who are starting to feel like every week looks the same. Thanks for sharing, kellyr21 .

I've done a scrapbook in a jar. You just adjust the tag/photo size to slide in and out of the mouth of the jar without bending.

It’s articles like this that make people start to play with paper, and once you start...

You are so funny! Of course I laugh because I can relate. Personally I can pick up a thing or two from that article. I liked the envelope idea. Duh! Good way for me to get more use of the envelope maker I had to have.

Glad you all found something interesting in this article. I thought about the fact that as a youngster, I added programs, newspaper articles, tickets, and other mementoes to my scrapbook. Now, I/we don't do that anymore. Why did we stop adding keepsakes to our pages? It's all about the pictures and occasionally our precious paper keepsakes. @kendramage - Girl, you are so funny! Thanks for your analysis! I think I am between #1 & #2! LOL!

There are no rules (although I DO blame those CM consultants when I hesitate, b/c they really worked to convince us that Every. Thing. We. Add. To. A. Page. must be archival, acid free--in other words, bought from them! )

I can't remember what I was watching the other day, but the man said his mother kept a "photo book" for him. He showed some of the pages with memorabilia in it and I said out loud "Uh no, that is a SCRAPBOOK!"
