I have two of the bottom photo. I love mine. I found baskets in Targets $ section that work well for organization. Let me take a photo and upload it for you. Sorry for the crap quality but you get the idea. Mine holds so much.

That explains a lot! I have been following Victoria Calvin’s craft room revamp and she’s had to change her plans because (presumably) her wall of drawers was going to be IKEA Alex and they’re out of stock everywhere and she can’t wait any longer. There are very similar alternatives on Amazon that I've been looking at. I'll post the links if people are interested. I bought one of the similar alternatives on Amazon as the Alex has been out of stock forever and I was done waiting. I have the Alex that is larger/wider on wheels and the similar one on Amazon is NOT as good of quality. The drawers seem to not fit well in their grooves (like they can be wiggled a bit from side to side). It's fine for now, but I will eventually get another Alex unit on wheels to replace the Amazon one.

I almost bought one the other day but after reading the reviews I decided to wait. I usually take the reviews with a grain of salt because a lot of people don't put these kinds of things together properly. But, I trust a pea's review over random Amazon reviewers more so I'm glad I didn't buy it!

So do you all prefer the drawers over open shelving? I find if I put things in drawers I forget about them. If they are on shelves, I remember. I’ve been watching the Clutterbug YT channel and she describes 4 different organizing styles that help explain why some people have every drawer micro-organized and other people need a big basket on a shelf to dig through. You sound like a visual organizer (I forget the details of the 4 types but some people need closed doors and some people just can not). This video might help This was fascinating. TFS! Also loved her Canadian accent I am definitely a visual organizer. As long as it looks neat, I am good!!

I have several of the wide and medium width Alex drawers and the one irritation I have with them is that the drawers don't open up enough to get to the back of them. I get around this by placing some things in trays or separate boxes within the drawers - I use one of the wide sets for my sewing things and two drawers are full of sewing threads. I have to put those in pullout trays or else I'd never see the for or five rows of cotton reels at the very back of the drawer. Having said that, it's the only irritant and generally speaking, I love them!

My biggest issue with IKEA especially the Alex is the tendency for more shallower drawers over deeper/taller drawers. I want something with 3 7”deep (tall? ) drawers
I mean some shorter drawers are ok but really I need very few 3” or 4” drawers

I went to measure the 5-drawer and was scratching my head because it depends on where you measure: inner sides, inner front or inner front at the lower dip. The sides are lower than the front, but many of the drawers hold bins, even stackable, that are quite a bit higher than the sides. They’re fairly even with the front. Like I mentioned, I’m often surprised in a good way about what fits. Just to get an idea of height, I have some Container Store accessory boxes in one of the bottom drawers and they fit well. They’re 4-1/4” high and could be higher. www.containerstore.com/s/closet/storage-boxes-bins/our-accessory-box/12d?productId=10003253

They are deep enough, but not so deep I lose stuff.

She is SO delightfully Canadian and her ideas about different styles are quite helpful. One of her rules is that in a mixed household you have to defer to the style that leaves stuff out and visible if one of you is that style... which is why my bathroom sink and kitchen counter will never be clear as long as I am married... sigh...

We have 3 of the 5 drawer as computer desks with Linmon tops, and the wide one. We also bought the Alex desk topper with drawers and stopped using them when the pandemic hit - not a comfortable height for our computers for lengthy work.
I’ve struggled using the 5 drawer Alex for craft and planning supplies. Only the lower drawers have medium depth. The top ones hold very little.
The wide Alex was our printer cart, but bowed under the weight of our laser.
The wide one is now holding gift wrap supplies. Top 2 drawers are cards and envelopes sliding everywhere. Bottom 3 hold gift bags, tissue paper and small gift boxes.
I’ve unpacked most of my tools and they’re in Sterlite drawers that used to by the kids toy bins. The 2x2 Kallax holds albums and paper. Still trying to figure out what to do with embellishments.

I have the last one - the very wide one. Have it jam packed with crafting supplies. Think it is great.
Only "disappointment" is that it isn't wide enough to have two stacks of 12 by 12 paper besides each other.

Victoria Calvin mentioned today that she has some wide Alex drawers coming for her craft room re-do so maybe they are coming back into stock?

I love mine, I have the narrow ones and painted the fronts of them. They hold SO many things organized in my room!
