Watched a horrific attack against a woman in NYC. In the clip, the building staff (doormen/guards?) could be seen observing the attack and one guy actually closes the glass door while the woman is lying on the ground! What in the world is happening? I can sort of get not wanting to intervene during the attack because the attacker was a big guy, but to close the door and not go to her aid after the attack? Fortunately, they caught the attacker who happens to be on parole for killing his mother. Full story here: abc7ny.com/nyc-asian-attack-brandon-elliot-arrest-stop-hate/10461853/

I saw that on Today and I just couldn’t believe my eyes. There were at least 2 people there, what the ever loving hell is the matter with people? I wonder if they could be charged with something? The fact that they didn’t intervene to help is disgusting enough, but to shut the door after the attacker sauntered away? I hope they are outed and publicly shamed and shunned for the rest of their days.

that was really disgusting to see. perfect example of chivarly is dead. i'm glad the doorman was suspended but i suspect the internet will serve up it's own social justice too.
ETA: i just read that he was arrested! good! they say he was convicted of his mother's mother and was out on lifetime parole.

Shameful!
The story said the employees have been “suspended.” They need to be fired! If they’re not helping someone in desperate need, how can they be expected to make reasonable decisions in their jobs?

Just watched it on the news. It looked like the doorman shut the door after the suspect left the seen. If I saw it correctly, the doorman was in no danger, so why not go and try to help the victim and have someone call the police. I hate when you see women and men stand around filming/watching and not trying to help with whatever they can do (and stay safe himself/herself).
I often see stories on the news/Inside Edition where they show someone in trouble and my husband and I ask each other why someone is just filming instead of trying to help. I know it's hard to say what you would do if you aren't in that situation, but my husband, myself and our three daughters all say we hope we would jump in and try to help stop the attack and help the victims. This is so sad seeing so many Asian men and women getting attacked on the street.

One on one with that violence might not be safe. But to ignore, no way!

Like you said, they were in a group and the suspect was by himself.
I saw that he killed his mom when he was 19. I don't know whether she was abusing him, if he did it in self defense, or what. But seeing what he did to this innocent person makes me think that his mother was likely an innocent victim.

I saw a report on the news a couple weeks ago where there was a group of college girls (maybe sorority) that were volunteering to escort Asian members of their community so they didn't have to feel afraid to go out of their house. I love stories of people helping others!

If I ruled the world, they would be flogged. I've never been in a physical fight, but I've confronted strangers acting abusive a couple of times. One of these days, I'm going to get the $#it beaten out of me because, if I saw something like this, it would be preferable to be beaten up than to know I did nothing. Headline will read, "Florida grandmother gets punched in the face for interfering during assault." I'm too p*$$ed for words.

I'm sure the suspension will lead to firing. I don't see how the company wouldn't given how clearly the video shows what fuckers these people are.
Obviously the man that attacked that poor woman is on my biting list, but those stupid employees make the list too.

This footage made my physically ill. I can understand being in shock and sort of paralyzed for a few moments, but honestly just standing there is abhorrent.

that was really disgusting to see. perfect example of chivarly is dead. IMO it's nothing to do with chivalry or gender. It's just common human decency. There is absolutely NO excuse for a group of people to see that happening and not do anything to try to stop it. And then to close the door after the man left the scene was downright inhumane.

The suspension has to do with it being reviewed by their union. What utter BS!

It was sickening to watch! 3 big men doing nothing! I wouldn’t be surprised if their union says something in their rules about altercations outside the building, but human decency should overrule that!! Sad! And the attacker should have never been on the streets!

I felt angrier at the two who watched than the obviously mentally disturbed guy who did this. Those two people had a chance to make a difference and stood by. I don't know how they sleep at night.

The attack was horrific and the security guard closing the door equally horrific.
What I'm curious about is who released the tape? It had to come from the building security, right?

Standing idle while someone else needs help and in fear of their life is something I will never understand.

Your are absolutely right. their actions lacked basic human decency with the worst lack of decency coming from the perpetrator.

The attacks on Asians has been ongoing in New York City for weeks. I have several Asian friends in Manhattan who are afraid to leave their homes. Unfortunately the media hasn’t been covering this as much as some other stories.

I saw one story of an 89 year old Asian woman who was exercising in a park and she was beaten to death. 😢

Prior to Covid, my workplace was (still is and getting worse) in a sketchy neighborhood. Like you don’t walk anywhere outside alone - even in daylight. We have Security patrolling the area and building. One day there was a group of us taking a walk in the park. We heard a woman scream and sounds of her being assaulted. Our Security Patrol was patrolling the parking lot right by us. Several ran to the bridge to cross the river to stop the assault. Someone called 911 and another approached the Security officer who appeared to be very unconcerned. His response was, “It is the other side of the river from my jurisdiction. I patrol this side of the river and this property.” Needless to say, that went up the chain of command and the rules were changed to include seeing or hearing anything in the area, they are to assist.
I can certainly see this being outside their building and therefore outside their jurisdiction (for lack of a better word) but it boggles my mind to just stand there and watch and then close the door. Where is their humanity? Why wouldn’t you do something to stop it. Call 911, walk outside in a group and try to stop it, something! Just don’t stand there! After he left, go out and offer aid, for goodness sake. If it isn’t your jurisdiction, then change the rules.
I have mixed feelings about filming. I am so grateful there is the video of George Floyd being murdered. I think if there is a group, someone should film and others take action.

Horrific broken dangerous humans.
They can't live in society.
Not in their present state.
