It was already a cliché in the late 18th century when Robert Burns wrote, “The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft a-gley [go often astray].” So this month the Donna challenge is about best laid plans that have gone astray. As Donna became increasingly incapacitated with her illness, she looked for ways to celebrate given her circumstances, much differently than she would have liked or traditionally did.
This month to meet the Donna Challenge, create a layout or project about anything in your life you have celebrated or done differently than you would usually do, or that you wanted to. With a year of quarantine already passed, many opportunities to meet this challenge may have presented themselves. If you meet this challenge and post to this thread you will receive 5 points.
As always, because Donna wanted so much to get her photos scrapped, any photo you scrap this month is worth one point. So a Donna challenge layout with 3 photos would be 5 points for the layout and 3 for the photos - worth 8 points. If you do not do the Donna challenge but you scrap 15 photos, for example, you get 15 points for your team.

Thank you - I'm not good about posting on your thread but I love the different challenges and how you tie them in to memories of Donna! As always, because Donna wanted so much to get her photos scrapped, any photo you scrap this month is worth one point. If you do not do the Donna challenge but you scrap 15 photos, for example, you get 15 points for your team. we only count photos if we're counting old-school points, right? not if we're doing the easy-peasy method? Or is it a separate count all the photos for the month and add to your total points for the month (like the spending challenges for instance?)

So if you have 100 photos that end up scrapped you get a point. It doesn't matter if it is an 'easy' method like PL pages. If you call it scrapped, it is scrapped! The idea to get your photos into a format that they aren't in piles or storage boxes.

Linda you can count points both ways. So if you are doing easy peasy, but want to count all the points for this challenge old school you can do that!

So if you are doing easy peasy, but want to count all the points for this challenge old school you can do that! so...i make 10 layouts and count their points using the easy-peasy method (which nets me 220 points - 1 for making, 1 for sharing, 20 for 8.5x11) - I don't get to take challenge points on those layouts because my 20 points is in lieu of counting up challenge points. But what I'm hearing is that if I used 30 photos making those 10 layouts, I can put a separate line labelled Donna Challenge (photos) and count 30 additional points? Okay - I didn't realise that. I've only been counting challenge points for the organising, spending/no spending and other crafts challenges because those ones didn't involve layouts as I always count easy-peasy. grammadee

But I’m sure grammadee will clarify 🙂

But what I'm hearing is that if I used 30 photos making those 10 layouts, I can put a separate line labelled Donna Challenge (photos) and count 30 additional points? That's what I did in March. I added a line to the points spreadsheet and took a point for every photo I scrapped, on top of all the other points.

I have never done that, Linda and joyfulnana and AussieMeg. But when I think about it, there doesn't seem to be a reason you can't count the pages Easy Peasy and then count the photos as Donna Challenge points. But if you are going to count up anything ELSE from the monthly challenges like number of squares, you would be adding everything up old school. Go for it!

Well I don't do Easy Peasy, which is why I counted each photo. When I read over this particular challenge, I saw it as an encouragement to get as many photos scrapped as possible. And it is in the Regular Monthly Challenges section, along with the organisation challenge, the photo challenge and other crafts challenge, which are also separate to the layout points.

I think it's fair to count this as a separate challenge during the month. As long as everyone gets the same treatment, it's all good! I want to comment on the "timeliness" of this month's challenge... how many plans have changed with covid? We were expecting company today (BIL/SIL/nephew/niece) to spend Easter weekend but our province gets put into lockdown tomorrow morning so they decided not to come. We are crushed All my fun plans. No Easter events, silliness or photos for me: with cousins, you happily put on your silly hat and do Easter hunts and play games. With only siblings, you do not participate willingly. The only challenge is - how to scrapbook this without sadness? I have NOT "made lemonade" out of most of our losses. I've been really discouraged lately by the amount of work I'm still doing, without the rewards of the life I had created. How do I scrap missing family, missing dance competitions, missing school events, missing roadtrips, without bitterness? I have half the number of photos for 2020 than previous years. So even my hobby is negatively impacted. I know everyone is going through this and I am constantly reminding myself to be grateful not entitled. But man, this sucks.

((((((HUGS)))))), kitbop. It is bad enough knowing no one is coming. Let alone have it yanked out from under you.

The only challenge is - how to scrapbook this without sadness? Possibly scrapbook your photos without journalling, to come back later when you feel inspired to journal. In other words, scrap them matter of factly without the emotion, if that helps you.

((((Hugs)))) kitbop - I think it's okay to include the sadness and the what would have been along with what did/does happen and the good parts. I am sorry that your plans had to change

Here is my take on this challenge. My dd and dgs would have preferred to have been out here at the farm, but they spent Easter weekend at home a couple of hours away. The community had organized a socially distanced treasure hunt which they attended. They coloured eggs, and put together an Easter basket, which the big EB filled. Easter Sunday was spent outside, mostly alone. No Easter meal, but I will be putting together a page about the Easter Cake that dgs decorated at a picnic table earlier in the week. Here is my LO... Hope it fits the challenge, myboysnme. Easter Celebration 2021 by Gramma Dee, on Flickr
