Wow, Rachel Hollis is something else and just puts a bigger foot in her mouth every time she speaks. I don’t follow her (I read her book without knowing who she was and instantly disliked her), but became aware of her latest drama. Not the finest publication that I’m linking, but I think it explains the drama pretty well. And some (that has not been deleted) is still on her IG. betches.com/girl-stop-taking-your-own-advice-start-apologizing/

As if there weren't already a dozen reasons to abhor her...

she is so clueless. I thought she made her money BECAUSE she was (trying to be) relatable. Apparently not. Or else she forgot that. when a commenter replied 'that Rachel is not relatable, that’s when things took a turn for the even more bizarre. After a condescending laugh, Hollis asks rhetorically, “What is it about me that makes you think I wanna be relatable?” seemingly forgetting about the massive $3 million empire she’s built off of putting forth the idea that her lifestyle is attainable if you simply do pithy things like “wash your face” and “stop apologizing”. “No, sis,” she continues, “literally everything I do in my life is to live a life that most people can’t relate to. Most people won’t work as hard. Most people won’t get up at 4am” (to do what, she doesn’t say). “Most people won’t fail publicly, again and again, just to reach the top of the mountain. Literally every woman I admire in history was unrelatable.” Then she sneers, “if my life is relatable to most people, I’m doing it wrong.” If you haven’t cringed all the way back into your mother’s womb yet, Rachel captioned the video, “Harriet Tubman, RBG, Marie Curie, Oprah Winfrey, Amelia Earhart, Frida Khalo, Malala Yousafzai, Wu Zetian… all Unrelatable AF. Happy Women’s History Month!” ' And then she tried to say she wasn't comparing herself to those women... 'oh, no, that's not what I meant, at all!' all I can say is I'm glad I never paid any $$ for her book and I'm sorry for all the people who did.

crimsoncat05 at least I got it from the library, but only because it such good reviews on goodreads (which has made me even more cautious about hyped books). But the last part, where she lists some notable women of history just shows how insane she really is.

There is a long list of truly educated, intelligent women. Some psychologists and psychiatrists. PhDs. Truly profound thinkers. And still the public will choose Girl, Wash Your Face. It's so disappointing.
This whole article is disappointing. She is disappointing. That people listen to her is disappointing.

I went down a rabbit hole on Twitter last night regarding this. I especially enjoyed Luvvie's reaction and her feed. No love for unrelatable Rachel there. Deservedly so.
Edited to add, I DID read Luvvie's book, but I did NOT read Rachel Hollis' book. Which at this point seems like a really wise decision.

I read the article first, then watched the Tik Tok video. OMG, it was worse than I imagined. She is hideous. I hope she loses most of her followers after that.

As someone who does not have a house cleaner, I don't necessarily see that as privilege. Depending where you live, it isn't too far of a stretch to make it work for a couple of days a week. Damn, she was condescending the way she described her though. The fact that she compared herself to women of REAL substance compared to her navel gazing, plagiarizing, relationship failing self is disgusting.
Please note, I don't care that she is going through a divorce or is divorced now. It's the fact that she tried schilling her "expertise" on marriage.

I never read her book. I didn't get it. I already wash my hair?
She's so offensive. And the "sis" part was really grating. No. Go away.

There were rumours over the weekend that she was going to collaborate with Peloton. There has been quite a push back from members already. I don’t know what she would even bring to the table. I haven’t read her books though - I’m not fond of self help books from random people.

I couldn't believe that Oprah had her as one of the speakers on her Your Life in Focus tour in February 2020-on the same program as Michelle Obama. Rachel talked graphically about the time when she had forgotten that she left her tampon inside for a whole cycle. And how her husband didn't say anything "was different in there" when she said she felt funny because he didn't want to hurt her feelings. This was right after lunch and I was repulsed. I wasn't surprised when I heard they were divorcing a few months later.

I would never have even heard of this woman if it wasn't for the peas, my fb MLM friends, and my cousin's Christian mommy influencer wife. I haven't read the books, don't really need life advice at this stage.

I liked how she said she admired Rachel Cargle and then she deleted Rachel Cargle's comments on her IG post. The audacity of that chick. Now everyone's waiting to see what her STBX will say, I guess he has been her handler in the past?
I hope this hits her pocketbook hard, that's probably about the only thing she understands.

Just one more person I am happy to never have heard of. Wow. She is a piece of work.
ETA: I respect that she has worked hard to get to where she is. What I don't respect is her denigration of others.

I haven't read her books. I only know who she is because of this message board.
I clicked on the link, and read the dialogue. She comes across as very arrogant, self important, and ignorant. Speaks as if everyone is beneath her. Definitely not humble.
She strikes me as the type, that is obnoxious and struts around arrogantly. Probably a name dropper. Let me go get my name brand purse out of my name brand car, while wearing my name brand clothes. Referencing her housekeeper as "my toilet cleaner" is derogatory and offensive.
She certainly hasn't learned the theory of "don't anger, insult, put down, bite the hand that feeds you". No one is invincible.

Several years ago, a parent at our school "bought" an assembly for the 7th and 8th grade girls. These two gorgeous young women, with the long blond hair and the very "in" bohemian style talked for two hours (with that cool girl vocal fry) about how awful they were to "the lesser people" when they were in middle school and high school, all while enjoying the status as popular girls. They were mean girls because it gave them power, status, and attention.
The point of their assembly was to let the girls in my school know that what they did was wrong, as they stood before 400 impressionable 13 and 14 year olds, basking in the same power, status, and attention, only as acceptable "role models" now.
And all I could think was, "You haven't grown beyond your high school self. You got attention for being horrible then and now you are getting attention for how horrible you were.
Kind of reminds me of this Rachel person. She has an insatiable need for attention and probably always has. She'll get it by any means necessary. I give absolutely no f's for people like that.

Of course I've seen her book around, but I haven't read it, nor do I really 'get' who she is. I have read the linked article, and I don't see what she needs to apologize for...?
If that's who she is, and that's what she thinks then she has a right to say it, and people who don't like can choose to no longer interact with/buy her products (or whatever she does). If she doesn't care that some people will dislike her for her opinions, then I don't see why she needs to apologize for them.
As for this idea of people complaining that she isn't "who they thought she was"? Really...really? people believe that shit? C'mon. Just because someone has some books out that tell you a whole bunch of stuff about how they [supposedly] live their lives and have websites and followers doesn't make any of it real, or true. Do women really believe these lies other women put out about themselves on places like Instagram? do they think these women are 100% perfect selfless people with no flaws? If you do, then you're a fool and the joke's on you.
So this one thinks she's worked hard (I have no idea if she has or hasn't) and think she deserves a house cleaner and thinks she's privileged (and she probably is) then why should she apologize for saying those things? I will never understand how people fawn over celebrities, follow them around buy their stuff etc thinking they are perfect humans. It's smoke & mirrors and surely we all know this by now?

Well both the tiktok and instagram videos have been removed after way too many days of her leaving them up. And since that article was written she has l.6 million followers so maybe people are finally seeing the light. It appears that she may have had deals in the works with Peloton and Target so perhaps her actions will hit her in the pocket book too. I can't imagine any big brand would want to be associated with her.

I dont think Dave will say much at all, publicly anyway. I fully expect Rachel to blame mental illness and stress, go away for awhile and then come back. This girl will never learn her lesson because she views everyone beneath her.

I don’t know. The people I know (and I can count them on one hand) that have a house cleaner have someone that comes once or twice a month, not twice a week. That really does seem extra privileged... like, the only upgrade from that is a full-time one, isn’t it? Signed, another someone who does not have a house cleaner.

I’m not a Rachel Hollis follower or fan but came across this controversy on Instagram last night.
Someone called her unrelatable - her response was appalling. She was propping herself up and comparing herself to truly remarkable women and talking down to everyone else. She seemed to believe she is the hardest working person out there and better than everyone else. She is entitled to people scrubbing her toilets because she works hard.
She is condescending and tone deaf.
When you watch the video, as opposed to reading what she said, you get a better understanding of what type of person she is and it’s not flattering.

And since that article was written she has l.6 million followers Huh, interesting..... when I looked earlier today after first reading this thread, she had 1.7 million. So she has lost around 100,000 in the last five hours or so. ETA: And that is probably why they finally took the video down, in an attempt to prevent her losing any more followers.

pjaye said: If that's who she is, and that's what she thinks then she has a right to say it, I agree with this. I also think she should say it so the people following her are aware. Transparency, if you will. I still have the right to judge her for it. I didn't have a clue who she was until I think it was @zingermack posted about her divorce. They were running marriage retreats or some such shit right up until the end. I'm just tired of the glorification of people who have no credentials. So personally I'm glad she said it. Because I think people turn to people like her because they are relatable. In other words it's much easier to read her book about how to live than to actually read psychology and take a deep look at yourself. People don't want to dig that deep and look to the experts. They just want enough money for someone to "clean their toilets" and a pretty face. Surface level.

I have a couple of acquaintances who work for the Hollis RISE event company. They have changed since going to work there and not necessarily in a good way. Local rumor has it Ms. Hollis is one of the reasons Jen and Brandon Hatmaker divorced this past year.
