In Maryland, just the other day, the governor announced that we were opening to all 16 and up for vaccinations at mass vaccination sites with 2 sites having walk in availability on the 6th and that everywhere else in the state had to open up by the 12th.
And yet somehow, I feel like I'll be the last in line because many people I know got theirs already when they weren't eligible. Some have bragged about it. On social media and they suggest that I should've fudged something to get mine.
Am I too Girl Scout for this business? Yesterday, one of the walk in sites turned people away pretty quickly because they were out of the allocated shots for walk ins. Those with existing appointments were able to get their shots.
Then my middle child in PA got her shot this morning and I'm jealous! How petty is that? My oldest has a new job in Seattle setting up the largest mass vaccination site in the country, so he'll be getting his on Saturday. Again I'm jealous!
I know it's coming soon, but I'm also fussy seeing people planning for vaccinated group only activities when I've been doing my best to wait patiently. Alright, got it off my chest and I'll have to move on. Until my youngest gets the shot before me. LOL

(((Hugs)))
You are perfectly within your rights to feel upset and envious and everything else.
You are a good person. 🥰 I can’t wait until you get your shots and this will become a bad distant memory.

Honestly, I was having vaccine jealousies too. It was hard watching people "around you" get the shot when you felt they should have been behind you.
I had to stop paying attention to that and only worry about myself.
I became eligible on March 31st and was able to make an appt for April 1st about one week ahead of time - so I beat the "rush", which I was thrilled about.
As for fudging ... I honestly thought about it a couple of times. But couldn't bring myself to do it. That said, at this point, I feel like it's "every man/woman for themselves" and I'm not throwing shade/judgement at anyone anymore.

I was a little concerned that they were going to open our state up to 16 and up right after they finished with the 60 and up. I felt that they needed to drop down to 50 first. They did, thankfully. But I will say that we do have open vaccination spots even with the drop down to 16 last week. I do understand how you feel. It isn't fair. Hopefully your state will open up your age group quickly. We stalked some large vaccination sites to see if they had extras at the end of the day. I know people that got theirs that way.

Whatever you need to do for your conscience, do. Just remember the more vaccinations, the safer we're all be.

I think the goal is for everyone to get the shot and I keep telling myself that. Our country is not doing vaccine only anything though. We have not been told that if we’re vaccinated we can do anything differently. I think that is because we don’t have a large anti vac movement.if our country was letting those who had been vaccinated have parties, travel, be inside, etc I’d probably feel more like you.

We signed up for available appointments as soon as we could. My sister and BIL out in Seattle lined jumped, but only because there were so many unfilled vaccine appointments available. While I certainly understand the frustration of being in a harder to get vaccinated area, I still say the more people vaccinated the better.

I would be miffed at these so called “friends” jumping the line. But I don’t think there’s really anything that you can do about it. And I suspect that the organizers feel the same way. That people are jumping the line and there isn’t a system in place to prove that you are deserving of the shot. So they just opened it to everyone.
Make your appt for next week and celebrate the win. That’s about all that you can do.

I'm in MD and I will admit to jumping the line based on what they deemed to be a comorbidity. My doctor did not agree with what they considered to be conditions that could cause a serious reaction. With that said, my sister got us appointments really fast. She isn't technically a vaccine hunter and while I tried for a few days, I voiced my frustration and within an hour she had 3 appointments scheduled at pharmacies right near our house. I have NO idea how she did that. My dh hasn't had his shot yet bc he just got his shingles shot so he isn't getting his first shot until the 18th which is after the opening up. My son does have a comorbidity but he just got his first shot on Saturday. I got mine on Friday so it was only a couple of days before it opened up. On 3/22 MD put in effect that no one can be asked what their condition is or be turned away for failure to provide proof. That opened the way to allow everyone to get the shot. Their thought is just to put shots into as many people as they can.
I have not been flouting that I got it early. I didn't go crazy trying to game the system either. I waited until things had calmed down a bit in MOCO and talked to my doctor. Based on my medical history and my sons and the fact that he is starting back to in person this week, we deemed it necessary to get the shots sooner than later.

They opened up =>50 on April 1, and I had a hard time making an appointment. A friend texted and said she must be the vaccine whisperer, because she's been able to make appts for her mom, dad, herself, brother, sister, nieces, nephews, etc. I said that's odd, they all have conditions? She said you need to be willing to fudge a little bit, and I responded that I'm not willing to do that. I was really surprised at this friend, because she did not seem the fudgy type. Am I a little disappointed in her? Yes, but at the same time, this is a friend who has been VERY careful, has rarely left her home in the whole year, and I believe her family is very much the same.
If it was someone who was constantly flaunting the rules, and claiming that Covid 'isn't all that' - I'd probably be pretty pissed. But again, nothing I can do about it, so I'll just have to let it go.

Oh I had it! I think you're normal if you have it. I mean you WANT people who need it the most to get it, but when they're young and healthy, you're like WTH? My 20yo super healthy son was called a couple weeks ago, just before VA opened up the sites to everyone. I think they are trying to get college kids under control, too. So I am good with that, but luckily I was called just before he was or I'd feel the same way.
FWIW, my other two haven't gotten vaccines yet. One in the UK with serious health issues (it will be soon!) and the other in Switzerland and she won't get it until August. They haven't started the under 75yo yet.
I am just happy we are here in the US and we have a president who put this as an incredible priority.

You are completely OK to feel how you want to feel. I hope you get yours soon.
I can't speak for your "line jumpers" but I sort of feel like people probably thought that about me at some point. My MoM at church, his wife is the Infectious Disease head at our local hospital. As they were first doing the clinics, if they had no shows and vaccines left over at the end of the day, they started calling and texting people who could get there before they closed so they wouldn't be wasting doses. I was the very lucky recipient of one of those shots. I had posted on FB and had several friends my age ask me how I got it. They weren't open to it at that time. I told them honestly how I was able to get it. Did I line jump? I don't think so. I am also in an area that a lot of folks just aren't open to the vaccine. Ya know, due to the chipping and all...smdh...

I totally understand. I will freely admit to being judgy about anyone who lied to get vaccinated before their turn. That includes my favorite nephew. I was hard pressed to keep my mouth shut when my sister told me what he did.

Our state just opened up to everyone this week. Dh called our small local pharmacy and got us an appointment for tomorrow morning at 9am!
I am shocked we were able to get in so quickly! A coworker made her appointment months ago and isn't scheduled until May and another friend (who is in the "at risk" age category) made her appointment a month ago and is also scheduled for tomorrow. I feel a little guilty that our experience was so quick and easy while others have to wait.

I understand how you are feeling, but try to keep your mind on the fact that it will be available to you soon. There had to be a really fast way to do this, and requiring backup paperwork or whatever was just going to slow it down. All those people who had the shots ahead of you are now helping to protect you by not spreading the virus (according to the latest studies.) It won't be much longer before everyone who wants one will have the opportunity to get one.
I've been working really hard to keep from dwelling on thoughts that don't help me. It's hard, and it takes some work. I just got Jon Acuff's new book, Soundtracks, in the mail today. It deals with exactly this subject -- overthinking and dwelling, instead of reframing your thoughts so they serve you in a positive way. I'm looking forward to reading it.

I am in PA and we just started phase 1b this week. We were in phase 1a a long time. My husband got vaccinated then because his coworker told him those with a bmi above a certain amount can get vaccinated in first phase.
His work is having a mass vaccination clinic this week because they are a manufacturing company. My fil asked if spouses could go. I won't go because I will go when I am eligible in a couple weeks (I am terrified of getting the vaccine and am not "smart" enough in the science area to research it well). I don't think it's fair for me to get it when I am not eligible. But Biden says everyone in the ocuntry has to be eligible in a couple weeks, so I am happy to wait. It should be easy to get an appt. because so many have already gotten vaccinated in my state. I was hoping to get it in July, but they are moving fast so I will have to get it in a couple weeks.

I was able to get it early due to a technicality. I have proof that I qualified but I'm not actually at risk. Therefore I waited until the last minute to schedule my vaccine. Once I started hearing that people were getting appointments easily AND they announced the date for the next group I went ahead and scheduled my appointment. I figured that by getting it now I open a spot in the general group for someone else to get it and still increase the number of people vaccinated.
In CA 50+ opened 4/1 and 16+ opens 4/15. My SIL got hers due to having asthma and my neighbor got his cuz he is a smoker. I went to a CVS and besides the screening questions online when making your appointment they do not verify that you are eligible. They did check my ID against their list of appointments.

I think it’s pretty normal to feel jealous or anxious when others all around you are getting the vaccine and you haven’t.
I was pretty cool about waiting my turn and being patient, and being retired, I could easily stay home most of the time - until it seemed like everyone else I knew was getting vaccinated. Granted, the first ones were because they work in medical fields, and that wasn’t a concern; I was glad for them. I also wanted my super high risk relatives to get theirs first.
Then, because tons of my friends are former co-workers, in the schools, they were all posting about getting vaccinated and I started to get a little anxious. It’s almost like being left out of some desirable club! I also knew I was going to have my knee replacement surgery so as soon as the state opened up for under 65 with co-morbidities, I jumped on trying to get the first dose. I had to work around timing for before surgery, and then having at least two weeks after surgery before getting the second dose.
I have younger relatives who got scheduled under the co-morbidity provision, and I’d say some of those were "loose" interpretations of the guidelines. Since most of the people I know are supporters of getting vaccinated, I try to remind myself that the more people getting vaxed, the better. But I also felt concern for the older people who want to but have had problems navigating the system. Luckily we've had a six day a week clinic staffed partly with National Guard, and that has helped get tons of people in my area vaccinated.
I just this morning got my second dose scheduled for Sunday. Not the timing I preferred but I booked it because I want to get the second done and be that much closer to being fully vaccinated.

If she's registered with a GP tell her to contact them or alternatively ring 119 and explain her situation to them if her papers haven't come through yet.

I've felt the same. Everyone around me has been vaccinated and I'm still trying to find some place. If I want to drive 3 hours one way I could have gotten one any day this week, but with my work schedule and being tax time, that just isn't possible. MN opened up for everyone 16+ 2 weeks ago I think, but the hospitals are still only doing 65+ for some reason.
Very grateful for my work though. We received an email yesterday that they are setting up a clinic for May 7th so anyone who wants a shot cane sign up and get one at work. Sent that email in right away yesterday saying I wanted to be signed up.
I know things are going to be off for a while, but it just feels like a huge weight off my shoulders and that maybe we can have some sort of normalcy.

But I did it thru Walgreens website. The week before I was offered vaccines from Meijer (grocery store) and my doctor. Walmart also had appointments at one time, as did a couple other places a few weeks prior (yes I was being picky on brand). But it takes going to each store’s website to register. The Heath department slots usually go within an hour and they’re only offered once a week.

I do understand the vaccine jealousy but I made a conscious decision early on not to concern myself with why/how others were getting the shot ahead of me. In most cases, I have no way of knowing if someone is caring for a medically fragile child, has their own comorbidity, or simply lucked out and got a "no waste" vaccine at CVS at the end of the day.
In the end - every single person that gets vaccinated helps protect all the rest of us.
My state is now open to everyone 16+. At a few of the mass sites you don't even need an appointment anymore. While it is great that vaccines seem to be readily available for all who want them I am a bit concerned this means not enough people are getting the shots...

In the end - every single person that gets vaccinated helps protect all the rest of us.this is the only thing that matters to me. i know there are line jumpers. i think that "eat or be eaten/every man for himself" mentally is inevitable during a crisis such as this. i just have to tell myself that at least they are vaccinated and that's one less person who can infect me. in the end, even those line jumpers put us one step closer towards a greater good.

I feel you. I felt the same way knowing people went before they were eligble. I was tempted believe me but the rule follower part of me didn't allow it. Then when my turn came (march 22nd for high risk people) I found a slot at a pharmacy and happily went.
Then after becoming aware or my medical info the RN giving me the shot said I really should have come earlier. I told her I was just eligble now and she said I should have come anyway and gotten it. "We aren't the police" and wouldn't have questioned it.
So yeah, the system isn't near perfect or even fair. But the more people that get it the better as frustrating as it is.

The youngest, healthiest, fittest, person in my family got the vaccine first, but didn’t break the rules. It was weird. I qualified for 3 different reasons and couldn’t come up with an appt no matter how hard I tried but my kid got it no problems. I was slightly miffed, but kept it to myself, not his fault at all. He had the benefit of being on a college campus and having ‘free’ time to volunteer at a vaccine site ( that just also happened to be on campus ) yay quick thinking college kid. I was able to snag my appt a short time later with some diligent site stalking online. Now we are all vaccinated twice and all set. Youngest one has already ‘tested’ his vaccine by being exposed. I’m NOT envious of that at all. I also wasn’t all yay good thinking college kid about it either.
I think we are all going to feel a lot of things about all this covid stuff as we move forward and all of those feelings are valid. It is a crazy time. Have grace with yourself while you sort thru all of it, your human.
Hope you are able to be vaccinated soon.

She is a PT and has opened her own business out of her home, and apparently put her two sons who are 16 & 18 down as employees, even though they do NOT work for the business. Her two healthy children are fully vaccinated before my 75 yr old dad, and we are in the same state (MD). Another friend's husband works for Northrup Grummond, and apparently they sent out a letter stating their employees were "critical." Ummmmmmm, no. No they aren't. Not like doctors and nurses and school teachers and grocery store workers, etc. Because it was a blanket letter, people were signing up for appointments, but then were turned away bc the letter didn't specifically state Mr. So and So was a critical employee, so I was grateful there were some sort of control, but pissed bc what if dosages were thrown away bc they assumed they would be given that day? I got my shot bc my BMI is considered obese. BMI is such a redonk benchmark, but I figured, what the hell, for once being fat is gonna pay off. So I got my shot. So I validate you!!!!

Thanks Peas! I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my wild feelings.
I'm feeling a little calmer since we were able to make an appointment for our youngest DD who has Urinary Cystitis which wreaks havoc on her skinny little body. Trying to be patient a little longer.
