The 4 month old puppy we are looking to add to our family is currently on Beneful.
Dd has Celiac and I was hoping to use Blue as it is gf sf cf.
I have heard positive things about Blue too and that its a good dog food to feed your dog.
So question, is it best to stick with what the puppy knows? Owner said its up to us what we feed and the puppy has no known allergies.
Will the puppy have any issues switching if we do go with blue?
I would rather have a gf dog food in the house since dd has Celiac.
Any other good gf dog foods you recommend?

Personally, I would feed Puppy what its used to.
And, no snark intended, but why does it matter if you daughter is celiac? Just wondering.
Edited : I don't know anyone who is Celiac, so I don't know if it effects if you touch or are near gluten foods.

We use Wellness Core.
I will say, whatever food you decide to use, make sure when you switch foods, you do it slowly! I'd say start with 1/4 new dog food and 3/4 old dog food for a few days. Then do 1/2 and 1/2 for a few more days. And then 3/4 new and 1/4 old for a few more days. Watch for signs that it's not agreeing with the new pup!

Blue Buffalo is a great dog food. Expensive but full of protein and good stuff. The Beneful full of fillers. Our belief is to feed the best food when they are a puppy so their brain and bodies are developing and growing and need the best nutrition. The most important thing to remember is to change the food gradually. Too fast of change will cause upset tummy and the runs. We use 25% NEW food to 75% old food for at least 3 days, then do 50% mix for at least 3 days then 75% NEW food and 25% old food for at least 3 days. By doing it gradual it gives the puppies tummy a chance to handle the change and if their is a tummy upset you can change the percentage of mix accordingly. I only mix a days food portion at a time so if they can't handle the change then I am not stuck with the premixed food. Hope this helps.

You can switch him to any kind of food you want. Just get a bag of that and a small one of beneful and mix them, gradually switching it from more beneful to more blue, so he's gradually put onto the new food. That helps avoid tummy issues. In all honesty, though, he's a dog and won't die if you don't do a gradual switch.
Enjoy your new puppy!

I should've added - I would feed what it's used to, then as it became more comfortable in our home switch gradually to whatever you want.

My daughters Celiac disease is so bad, she can not even touch gluten. And if the dog was to lick her and get saliva on her that would be very bad. She can not touch or eat any gluten containing item. So with gluten very prevelent in Beneful, that could be bad for dd. And thank you on the reminder to go slow Dont want her to have tummy trouble!

We changed our puppies food after she came home but you need to do it slowly. Start by feeding the puppy what they are used to this helps them adjust to your home. The end of the second week we started to add 3/4 old food 1/4 new food, third week we did 1/2 and 1/2 and left it that way for 2 weeks. If no diarrhea or itching/stomach issues with the dog then you can move to 1/4 old and 3/4 for the fourth week and slowly decrease the old food out of their system. The vet and our breeder recommended this and we had no issues. The first food we wanted her to switch to didn't agree with her system so it took some trial and error. I'd recommend buying small bags and be patient. Puppies tummies are easily upset and they are adjusting to a lot of change as it is. We have allergies in our home too which is why we switched her food to something if the baby got into to wouldn't be a problem. We just put the food out at feeding time and then took it up after an hour. This way we could keep the 2 from interacting without supervision. We' feed the dog at our meals times so the kids are otherwise busy and I feed her. Good luck with the new puppy

You can also go to this site www.dogfoodadvisor.com for all kinds of information on various dog foods. They've already done all of the analyzing for you and each brand is rated as to quality-plus they explain why it's given that rating. Good nutrition is key and very important, just like it is with us. The better you feed your dog, the less health problems he'll have in the long run. Debbie in MD.

We use Blue and our lab loves it. I agree with switching over gradually to any new food. She's a lab and eats about 2 cups a day. The big bag is about $50 and lasts us about a month. I buy it at our local pet store or Petsmart, so it's readily available in my area.

I would feed a puppy what it was used to for at least a few days and then gradually mix in the new food little by little decreasing the amount of old food until you are all on the new food. This is best for little tummies. Otherwise you could end up with diarrhea. My two little dogs eat NOW dog food. We tried blue buffalo but it made one of them itch like crazy. The other dog was fine but preferred his old food. The itchy dog liked BB better - too bad for her!

I used to think that Blue Buffalo was a good dog food. Until I switched vets and told them about the bad bladder stones that Emily had experienced a few years prior. When they asked me what food she had been on and I told them, they just nodded and said they see a lot of dogs with problems that were on BB. It may have only been the Freedom, or it may have been other flavors of the BB, I didn't go that deep since she was on a special diet at that point. You might want to ask your vet, though, if they see any particular problems with dogs on that food.
Grain-free foods are easy to find. Lacey is on Merrick.

We give our dogs Taste of the Wild brand dog food. It's also gluten free and comes in a few different formulas. We've used both bison and lamb. We pay about $45 for a large bag, but it lasts quite a while - even for two dogs. We got a puppy in October and we phased out the old food over a period of two weeks. He had no issues with making the switch. I'd recommend keeping a can of plain pumpkin in your pantry. Any time our dog has an upset stomach (which isn't very often) we give her a spoonful of pumpkin a couple times a day and that does a nice job settling her stomach.

I didn't have a good experience with Blue Buffalo. I tried after being told how good it is by a rep. My Jack Russell gained weight on it so to prevent that I had to feed her so little she was always hungry. I went back to Iams mini chunks. It has been good for my dogs.

Since it sounds like you haven't taken the puppy home yet, I'm wondering whether the present owner would cooperate and do the switch-over for you. You could supply (or pay for) the BB food. That way, you wouldn't risk several weeks of having gluten in the house.

My pups get the grain free from Costco. I gave them BB for a short time a while back. One of my dogs couldn't handle it and threw up a lot. I switched the food and all was well again.

I use taste of the wild for my dog with grain allergies. When we visit relatives with dogs, they all want his food!

We use Blue for our two little Shih Tzus. We gradually introduced it and they had no problems. They are both over a year old now and in perfect health. I've also noticed that with the Blue they don't eat as much as with the brand they were on when I got them. My vet told me that's because it doesn't have fillers like most of the grocery store brands.
