Capitol employees and all the staffs sure have grounds for suits!! Again they, management, KNEW!! (Article on damages on page 2) Watchdog reveals new warning about map of Capitol's underground tunnels posted before insurrection
By Zachary Cohen and Whitney Wild, CNN Updated 6:35 PM ET, Thu April 8, 2021 (CNN)A scathing report by the US Capitol Police watchdog obtained by CNN reveals that there were even more law enforcement failures prior to January 6 than previously known, including new details about expired ammunition, ineffective shields and a previously unreported warning more than two weeks ahead of the insurrection about a map of the Capitol's underground tunnels that was posted on a pro-Donald Trump website. These findings from the USCP Inspector General are included in the second preliminary report about the events surrounding the Capitol riot and suggest there were several longstanding issues that the department "either knew and did not address in time or did not address in a routine manner to prevent," according to the summary obtained by CNN. Specifically, the summary highlights significant problems with the department's vigilance when it came to equipment maintenance, policies for the Civil Disturbance Unit, and handling of intelligence prior to the attack. DHS warning about map of Capitol tunnels
The broader intelligence-related shortcomings described in the report are evidenced by a warning Capitol Police received from the Department of Homeland Security on December 21, 2020, but which it did not appear to fully utilize. On that day, "the Department of Homeland Security notified the Department of a blog referencing tunnels on U.S. Capitol grounds used by Members of Congress and research of the website identified four 'threads/blog topics containing comments of concern,'" the summary states. "The report identifies the website as thedonald.win and includes several pages of comments posted to the website," it adds.
The report goes on to expose, for the first time, a startling degree of indifference from Capitol Police leadership when it came to routine house-keeping items, such as failing to maintain an accurate roster of officers assigned to the Civil Disturbance Unit. The summary notes the "CDU" roster listed 187 officers, two of which no longer worked for the Capitol Police on the day of the insurrection. The 187 officers listed is far lower than the 276 officers acting Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman told Congress were active on January 6. Further, the report points out Capitol Police leadership knew as far back as July 2020 the department needed to make significant changes, but inexplicably failed to do so. The summary lists several examples, including a failure by the department to establish standard operating procedures for the Civil Disturbance Unit, highlighting a casual attitude toward the unit ultimately tasked with stopping the insurrection. Expired ammunition and ineffective shieldsEven equipment maintenance appeared to be a low priority. The summary shows the CDU shields were not stored in the correct temperature, rendering them ineffective, while some ammunition in the armory was expired. In another example, the inspector general wrote that a department official told investigators officers receive training every three years as required by the manufacturer of a weapon carried by officers, however, the department did not have any formal directive ordering them to conduct the training. On the day of the insurrection, CDU didn't use all of its less-lethal options, such as a 40mm grenade launcher, 37mm grenade launcher, and Sting Ball grenades because of "orders from leadership."In the end, the unit was "operating at a decreased level of readiness," due to the numerous failures, the report states. The summary describes a lack of standards for the critically important intelligence gathering and assessment arm of Capitol Police and that the department failed to follow the few procedures it did have. For example, not all members of the intelligence division had top secret security clearances in their roles, "which could have resulted in the Department mishandling classified information," and didn't have a training program for all employees in the division. The summary says that in the fall of 2020, the intelligence arm of Capitol Police was adjusted after it became clear the unit was "not meeting the demands of the Department."As the department prepared for what it believed would be a rally on January 6, conflicting intelligence proved problematic, according to the report. "The explanation the OIG provides for this is astounding," the summary says. "The 'Bottom Line Up Front' (BLUF) says they are tracking protest that may include some armed protestors and white supremacists, and the assessment 30 pages later is far more alarming, including that the conditions on the ground could 'lead to a significantly dangerous situation for law enforcement and the general public alike." CNN has previously reported the department's intelligence division concluded threats of violence were 'improbable.' The summary lists 27 recommendations for corrections, including changing procedures to "refine document reporting that better captures operational impact to include improbable outcomes based on intelligence, trend data, threats to members, and information analysis." The USCP Inspector General is expected to testify on Capitol Hill next week about the report and his findings. ** www.cnn.com/2021/04/08/politics/capitol-riot-inspector-general/index.html

Aftermath of Sen Ron Johnson's peaceful protest?!! that was very powerful and moving. thanks for sharing it. (I've heard it called 'just a little insurrection' as if there are different levels of wanting to overthrow the government, or something. Heard it referred to like it was just something minor. Lock Him Up: Leaked Pentagon Document Supports Case For Trump Treason ChargesSAT, APR 10TH, 2021 BY JASON EASLEY The AP reported on the timeline in an internal Pentagon document that they obtained: The timeline adds another layer of understanding about the state of fear and panic while the insurrection played out and lays bare the inaction by then-President Donald Trump and how that void contributed to a slowed response by the military and law enforcement. It shows that the intelligence missteps, tactical errors, and bureaucratic delays were eclipsed by the government’s failure to comprehend the scale and intensity of a violent uprising by its own citizens. With Trump not engaged, it fell to Pentagon officials, a handful of senior White House aides, the leaders of Congress, and the vice president holed up in a secure bunker to manage the chaos. Mike Pence called the Pentagon and demanded that the Capitol be cleared, and the military didn’t do it. Logic suggests that there is only one person above Pence who could have overruled his order. The difference between sedition and treason is, “While seditious conspiracy is generally defined as conduct or language inciting rebellion against the authority of a state, treason is the more serious offense of actively levying war against the United States or giving aid to its enemies.”Trump aided an attack on America by its enemies by doing nothing. Donald Trump thought that he was laying low and avoiding responsibility, but what he really was doing was committing treason by aiding people who were committing an act of war against the United States. When Trump told his supporters to march to the Capitol, he committed sedition. When Trump refused to act to stop the attack on the Capitol, it could be argued that he committed treason.** www.politicususa.com/2021/04/10/trump-treason-capitol-attack.html

The whole mess makes me sick to my stomach. Ron Johnson is the senator for my area (but I certainly dont believe he represents the interests of us, only his own interests). I still can't believe he wasn;t afraid? He did evacuate, so maybe that is why he wasn't concerned. We watched it live as it was happening. I can't imagine the fear of those in the building. I also can't believe the police didn't use some force, non-deadly, or deadly, in turning back the mass of people. Barriers, who the heck thinks that does any good? Riot shields? How about flash bangs, tasers, tear gas, etc.....

Personally, I simply can not understand how the majority of the Congress show up to work each day and sit in a room with people who incited the violence against them. Talk about hostile work place.
And I will never understand Pence, Trump sent a mob there to Hang Pence. They set up the gallows & all. And Pence still supports him? It is bizarre.

My fiance is a police officer and his department recently advised officers to purchase their own glasses that will deflect lasers which are being used at protests these days and is blinding police officers. This is in preparation of expected protests and/or riots after the Chauvin trial verdict comes down.
There is a lot of politics about what police can or cannot do and I will just say that the police officers themselves don't have much say in what they're going to do. It's all politics and it's all bullshit.

This could have been a total disaster. They had a stash and there is some video. (CNN) Members of the Oath Keepers paramilitary group likely stored weapons at a hotel in Arlington, Virginia, as part of their plan to have an armed rapid-response force during the January 6 insurrection, federal prosecutors said. The new details flesh out previous accusations from prosecutors that members of the Oath Keepers assembled a "quick reaction force," or QRF, in Virginia that could deploy into the nation's capital if needed. For the first time, prosecutors have revealed photos of an alleged Oath Keeper carrying what looks like a weapon inside the hotel where the QRF was stored -- the Comfort Inn in Arlington, Virginia. Prosecutors said Kenneth Harrelson, who has been charged in the Oath Keepers conspiracy, "likely contributed" weapons and brought "what appears to be at least one rifle case" into the hotel. Harrelson is one of 12 defendants in the case, the most prominent case tied to the insurrection. ** more at link www.cnn.com/2021/04/13/politics/oath-keepers-comfort-inn/index.html

And WHY wasn't he sent to jail? I'm thinking that would be a major violation.... MAGA rioter Jeremy Vorous got a scolding from a judge this week after he defied a court order against possessing any weapons in the time leading up to his trial. The Meadville Tribune reports that U.S. Magistrate Judge Richard Lanzillo of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania angrily rebuked Vorous this week after receiving a report from Pretrial Services claiming that he had been uncooperative with agents and that he continued to possess a machete despite being told that he could not have any weapons in his home as a condition of his pre-trial release.Vorous's court-appointed attorney claimed that the possession of the machete was a "misunderstanding" and that he only used the large blade to clear out weeds near his house. However, Lanzillo made it crystal clear that possessing a machete was off limits for the accused MAGA rioter. "Firearms and a machete, it doesn't take a whole lot of common sense to understand that is what is not permitted under the current conditions of release," Lanzillo said. "Do you understand the points I'm making?" "Yeah, I understand them," Vorous replied. "We've already complied. The only thing I have to do is get rid of the machete." ** www.rawstory.com/maga-rioter-jeremy-vorous/

Prosecutors won't pursue charges in shooting death of Ashli Babbitt during Capitol riotBy Dan Berman, Jamie Crawford and Marshall Cohen, CNN Updated 2:29 PM ET, Wed April 14, 2021 (CNN)Federal prosecutors in Washington, DC, will not pursue criminal charges against the US Capitol Police officer involved in the shooting death of Ashli Babbitt during the riot at the Capitol on January 6, the Justice Department said Wednesday. The Justice Department said it has cleared the officer involved and has closed its investigation, saying there is "insufficient evidence" to support prosecution. "The investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber," the DOJ statement said. Only the best!! Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) received significant backlash this week after he praised the Missouri National Guard for their work in supporting Capitol police. Hawley, of course, was one of the leading Republican senators to challenge the results of the 2020 election, which incited supporters of former President Donald Trump to violently storm the Capitol building on January 6th. However, that didn't stop Hawley from posting a photo on his Twitter account of him standing in solidarity with members of the Missouri National Guard who were helping Capitol police guard the United States Capitol. "Honored to meet with the Missouri National 220th Engineer Construction Company who've been proudly supporting Capitol Police — special thanks to Specialist Ben Laws and Sergeant Trey Lawrence for their outstanding service during the unit's deployment," Hawley wrote. "You make Missouri proud." ** more at link... The comments are good! It was hard to decide which onw to post!! www.rawstory.com/hawley-capitol-riot/

But it is also in the link at the bottom for the article. Really hard to watch... Washington Post with Carnegie Mellon have made a compiled video about 18 minutes long... A new analysis from the Washington Post revealed that over the course of 78 minutes during the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, police called for backup 17 times and were ignored. Using the audio of the police radio channels, the Post walked through how those audio pieces from the radio matched with footage on the ground as President Donald Trump's supporters made their way to the U.S. Capitol, breached the perimeter and ultimately the doors of the building. "The examination reveals how police were hampered by an insufficient number of officers and shortages of less-lethal weapons and protective equipment and also provides a glimpse into communications breakdowns within the police response," said the report. The video shows how "the mob on the west side eventually grew to at least 9,400 people, outnumbering officers by more than 58 to one," said the Post, and how that led to so many officers begging for help. "In footage reviewed by The Post, [Cmdr. Robert Glover] and his team of at least 30 MPD officers, identifiable by their yellow-sleeved jackets, can be seen arriving at 1:12 p.m.," the piece explained. "Within minutes, police managed to push back the protesters and set up a new barrier. But officers quickly suffered injuries as the mob grew in size and became more violent, according to video and audio recordings." Coordinating with researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, the Post estimated the growing size of the Capitol attackers and matching the videos to diagrams showing the location of the crowds surrounding officers. ** www.rawstory.com/capitol-police-2652593385/

There are hundreds of posts about plans to attack the Capitol. Why hasn't this evidence been used in court? The feds have presented no evidence any of the people charged in the Jan. 6 riot planned to attack the Capitol. But these posts gave detailed plans. "You know there will be riot police preventing us from getting in the capitol building," one anonymous poster wrote in December. "What if we created a stampede/crush situation? Start pushing from the back. Surely they will have to get out of the way or get crushed. They're not going to start shooting people." One post on a very active forum for angry Trump fans called the TheDonald.win was titled "If we occupy the Capitol building, there will be no vote." The top response to that post reads: "GOTTA OVERWHELM THE BARRICADES AND COPS." The posts raise new questions about whether the FBI missed or failed to act on these threats, and why federal prosecutors have so far said in court they have not determined whether anyone planned the attack in advance. A Justice Department spokesman and the FBI declined to comment. ** Still unclear is whether it was a failure to collect intelligence or a failure to act on intelligence that had been collected. A report by the Capitol Police Inspector General released Thursday says that force's intelligence unit was aware that "Congress itself was the target on the 6th," but didn't act on it, leaving the Capitol poorly defended. Yet, the FBI, not the Capitol Police, is ultimately responsible for detecting and thwarting terrorism attacks, and FBI officials have continued to insist there was no intelligence failure. An investigation by the Department of Justice Inspector General is ongoing. ** more at link www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/we-found-hundreds-posts-about-plans-attack-capitol-why-aren-n1264291

Which leads us into this item!! Capitol Police officer under investigation for allegedly telling units to only target 'anti-Trump' protesters on Jan 6Matthew Chapman April 21, 2021 On Wednesday at a congressional hearing with Capitol Police inspector general Michael Bolton, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) revealed that an officer is under investigation for telling units to stand down against the pro-Trump insurrectionists who broke into the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Instead, he told them only to target "anti-Trump" demonstrators, according to POLITICO. "The department's Office of Professional Responsibility found that a radio transmission to 'all outside units' attention' that they should not be 'looking for any pro-Trump in the crowd,' according to Lofgren. She added they were 'only looking for any anti-Trump,'" reported Kyle Cheney. "Bolton said he had yet to review the reports of investigations into the conduct of about three dozen officers on Jan. 6, many of which are ongoing.""A committee aide declined to disclose additional details from the investigation but emphasized that Lofgren's panel 'is recently in receipt of new documents and emails related to the Jan. 6 insurrection, including materials which brought to light these issues the Chair asked the (inspector general) about today. The committee is continuing to review those documents and emails and intends to review the relevant recorded audio when it is available,'" the report continued. www.rawstory.com/capitol-police-arrest-anti-trump-protests/

‘At least’ 100 more to be criminally charged for Capitol insurrection: Federal prosecutorsBob Brigham April 22, 2021 Federal prosecutors revealed in a new court filing that they expect over 100 more people will be criminally charged for the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump seeking to overturn the 2020 election results. The filing was made in the case of Michael Joseph Rusyn, who was arrested after live-streaming the Capitol attack. In the filing, the Department of Justice requested an additional sixty day delay under the Speedy Trial Act. To justify the delay, the DOJ explained the complexity of the case. "The investigation and prosecution of the Capitol Attack will likely be one of the largest in American history, both in terms of the number of defendants prosecuted and the nature and volume of the evidence. Over 400 individuals have been charged in connection with the Capitol Attack. The investigation continues and the government expects that at least one hundred additional individuals will be charged," prosecutors explained. Prosecutors also revealed they are continuing to investigate the planning of the insurrection. "While most of the cases have been brought against individual defendants, the government is also investigating conspiratorial activity that occurred prior to and on January 6, 2021," prosecutors wrote. "The spectrum of crimes charged and under investigation in connection with the Capitol Attack includes (but is not limited to) trespass, engaging in disruptive or violent conduct in the Capitol or on Capitol grounds, destruction of government property, theft of government property, assaults on federal and local police officers, firearms offenses, civil disorder, obstruction of an official proceeding, possession and use of destructive devices, and conspiracy." It seems everyday there are new things coming out about the pre rally dt meeting Jan 5th and who did what or was there and also at the Rally on the Ellipse on Jan 6th and the Capitol! GOP attorneys general group in turmoil after Jan. 6 Trump rallyBY REID WILSON - 04/22/21 05:29 PM EDT The chairman of the top outside group dedicated to electing Republican attorneys general has resigned his position in the wake of a show of force by rivals from other states, months after it supported a rally with then-President Trump that turned into an insurrectionist attack on the U.S. Capitol. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr (R) last week stepped down as chairman of the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA), citing a “significant difference of opinion” with the group’s strategic direction.
He is the latest in a string of departures from the organization, including its executive director, Adam Piper, who resigned under what sources said was pressure from the group in the days after the Jan. 6 insurrection.Carr cited that rally, which a nonprofit arm of the RAGA promoted in a robocall to supporters encouraging them to attend in the days leading up to Jan. 6. The robocall went out without the knowledge of Carr or other top attorneys general involved in the group, after substantial debate among staffers about whether it was appropriate for a group that backs law enforcement executives to promote a rally based on lies about the 2020 elections. “At 1 p.m., we will march to the Capitol building and call on Congress to stop the steal,” said the robocall, first reported by the investigative organization Documented. “We are hoping patriots like you will join us to continue to fight to protect the integrity of our elections.”The Rule of Law Defense Fund, which paid for the robocall, was listed a participant in the rally that preceded the insurrection. In a statement at the time, Piper insisted his organizations played no role in planning or sponsoring the event. But sources who were privy to internal emails said Piper was present at a Jan. 5 meeting in which top Trump administration officials planned the rally.Piper blamed the robocall on staff. One source with direct knowledge of the internal discussion said Piper himself had wanted to run an advertising campaign to promote the rally. Insiders said Carr was taken aback last week when some of his fellow executive committee members advanced Peter Bisbee as Piper’s successor. Bisbee, a veteran of the conservative Federalist Society and executive director of the Rule of Law Defense Fund, was ratified Thursday as RAGA’s next executive director. RAGA finance director Ashley Trenzeluk also resigned over the weekend as it became clear that Bisbee was to become the group's new executive director. In a letter to attorneys general first reported by the Alabama Political Reporter, Trenzeluk said she could not defend Bisbee's hiring after reassuring donors and supporters that the group would chart a future direction away from the robocall promoting the Jan. 6 rally. Piper could not be reached for comment. Carr aides did not respond to several requests for comment. thehill.com/homenews/campaign/549840-gop-attorneys-general-group-in-turmoil-after-jan-6-trump-rally

Under-the-radar court case helps piece together cop dragging during Capitol riotBy Katelyn Polantz, Marshall Cohen and Hannah Rabinowitz CNN Updated 8:20 AM ET, Fri April 23, 2021 These are the key moments from the US Capitol riot(this is a video at the top of the article. (CNN)The Justice Department has built out one of its most gripping and complex investigations to date from the January 6 insurrection in a court case which has gotten far less attention than others about at least five rioters who dragged and beat police with flag poles and a crutch on the US Capitol steps. Investigators' illustration of the violence in court contrasts notably from the rhetoric of right-wing commentators and Donald Trump himself, who have attempted to downplay anti-police violence from the former President's supporters that day. "Every time I look at these videos, it just chokes me up," federal Judge Emmet Sullivan said at a recent court hearing, interrupting prosecutors as they made their case against the five Capitol rioters. Sullivan was reacting to harrowing footage of three police officers wading into the crowd to save a pro-Trump rioter who was trampled -- with the police only to be stripped of their protective gear by other members of the mob, dragged and attacked with crutches, flagpoles, batons and bare hands. This grisly assault is at the center of a major criminal case that has become a focal point among Capitol riot court proceedings in recent weeks, though it has not received as much attention as other cases, such as the alleged bear spray assault of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, or the conspiracy cases against members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers extremist groups. Yet in this one case, the number of defendants has grown, and so has the number of charges. At this point, five men are named in a 16-count criminal indictment. ** Grisly assaultOfficers A.W. and B.M. stepped into the melee to help Rosanne Boyland, 34, who was trampled by the crowd. She died of an accidental drug overdose, according to DC's chief medical examiner. The violent scene of where Boyland fell, and then the crowd lashed toward the police, has been reconstructed over several court hearings in recent weeks, in court filings and in a judge's written retelling this week. Records have only identified the victims of the crowd's attack, all from Washington DC's Metropolitan Police Department, by their initials. In the middle of the crowd's push toward an archway to enter the Capitol, more than three hours into the riot, Whitton allegedly jumped over a railing and used a crutch to beat an officer, identified as B.M., before grabbing him by the helmet and dragging him down the stairs, with the help of another rioter, Sabol. The violence cascaded in less than two minutes. www.cnn.com/2021/04/23/politics/capitol-riot-cop-dragging/index.htmlWhole lot more at link..

Capitol police afraid of giving tours to Oath Keepers' attorneys -- here's whyTom Boggioni April 24, 2021 According to a report from Politico, lawyers representing Oath Keepers who have been indicted for storming the Capitol on Jan 6th in an attempt to stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election must be given a tour of the building itself so that they can prepare the defense of their clients. That has an attorney representing the Capitol police expressing concern about what those attorneys may do with the information -- and whether it will be used for a second assault. The report notes, "The department has begun arranging the tours for the Oath Keepers' attorneys as they build their defenses against the Justice Department's charges, some of the gravest lodged in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol," adding, "Prosecutors revealed the planned tours in court papers filed Friday morning. A dozen members of the Oath Keepers stand charged with conspiracy for their role in the Capitol breach on Jan. 6." While there has been a battle over whether the attorneys will be allowed to take pictures during the tour, a Capitol police spokesperson said there is nothing they can do to prevent the tours "based on federal rules of criminal procedure, which require prosecutors to offer defense lawyers the ability 'to inspect ... buildings or places"'relevant to charged offenses." That has Capitol police attorney Thomas DiBiase worried. In an affidavit he warned, "Our concern is that providing unfettered access to hours of extremely sensitive information to defendants who have already shown a desire to interfere with the democratic process will result in the layout, vulnerabilities and security weaknesses of the Capitol being collected, exposed and passed on to those who might wish to attack the Capitol again." That, in turn, led federal officials to set strict guidelines for the tours, with Politico reporting they have established "a set of strict limits on the ability of defense lawyers to access evidence like surveillance footage that will be used in prosecuting many of the Justice Department's cases. The so-called protective order established to guide the Capitol breach cases permits the government to label some evidence 'highly sensitive,' which requires strict limits on how defendants may view it and who else they may share it with." www.rawstory.com/oath-keepers-2652764780/

Republican doing the right thing! Liz Cheney Breaks with Republican Leadership to Support Commission into Capitol RiotMON, APR 26TH, 2021 BY ALAN RYLAND Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) broke with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to support a 9/11-style commission into the Capitol riot of January 6, which took place after a mob of former President Donald Trump’s supporters stormed the United States Capitol to try and overturn the results of the 2020 general election. “What happened on Jan. 6 is unprecedented in our history. And I think that it’s very important that the commission be able to focus on that,” Cheney said in remarks during a Republican gathering in Florida. “I’m very concerned, as all my colleagues are, about the violence that we saw, the BLM, the antifa violence last summer. I think that’s a different set of issues, a different set of problems, and a different set of solutions,” she continued. “And so I think it’s very important that the Jan. 6 commission stays focused on what happened on Jan. 6, and what led to that day.” McCarthy had previously proposed limiting the scope of a commission and has sparred with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on its creation as well as its mechanics as many Republicans continue to downplay the seriousness of the attack, which claimed five lives. Cheney was one of a handful of Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for inciting an insurrection against Congress. The Wyoming Republican Party later voted to censure her. Cheney said President Trump “lit the flame” of the attack. “There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution,” she said in a statement in January. In remarks that month to The Casper Star-Tribune, Cheney was firm that she made the right decision. “I will continue to talk to and hear from my constituents all over Wyoming,” she said. “But when it came down to it, the president of the United States incited a mob to attack and interrupt the democratic process. And then, while the violence played out, the president refused to take steps to stop it. In my mind, those are absolutely high crimes and misdemeanors. There’s just simply no question. This was a vote that could not have anything to do with party or with politics.” www.politicususa.com/2021/04/26/liz-cheney-breaks-with-republican-leadership-to-support-commission-into-capitol-riot.html

Trump’s election lies are keeping his MAGA rioters in jailBrad Reed April 28, 2021 Former President Donald Trump's continued lies about the 2020 presidential election are having some negative legal consequences for the supporters who rioted on his behalf. Politico reports that multiple judges have cited Trump's continued promotion of false conspiracy theories about the election as justification to deny bail to Trump supporters who rioted Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol. The report notes that Senior United States District Judge Emmet Sullivan recently cited Trump's rhetoric as a reason to keep MAGA rioter Jack Whitton in jail ahead of his trial. "Such comments reflect the continued threat posed by individuals like Mr. Whitton, who has demonstrated that he is willing and able to engage in extreme and terrifying levels of violence against law enforcement with a chilling disregard for the rule of law… seemingly based on mistaken beliefs about the illegitimacy of the current administration," Sullivan wrote in a recent decision. In the wake of Sullivan's ruling, prosecutors have started using it as a precedent to argue that MAGA rioters pose continued risks to keep committing acts of political violence if released -- and apparently it's working."In dozens of cases, judges have agreed with prosecutors to detain Jan. 6 defendants considered an ongoing threat to public safety," Politico writes. "In a court hearing on Friday, Judge Amy Berman Jackson rejected one defense attorney's claim that it's unlikely the nation will see political events that could provoke similar violent reactions in the near future." www.rawstory.com/trump-capitol-riot-2652806676/

Capitol attacker hearing gets weird when suspect shouts 'I object!' after another person's attorney criticizes TrumpSarah K. Burris May 06, 2021 Accused Capitol attacker Landon Copeland of Utah was in court Thursday and things were far from normal. NBC News' Scott MacFarlane tweeted that Copeland called into the hearing, and the defendant began by screaming at the courtroom clerk, saying she was "evil." That then devolved into Copeland randomly shouting "I OBJECT" during another person's case after their defense lawyer criticized former President Donald Trump. According to MacFarlane, Copeland interjected again when the defense attorney for another person blamed Fox News for radicalizing insurrectionists. Legal analyst Marcy Wheeler noted that Copeland is demonstrating "that he can't control his anger and doesn't listen to authority." Ultimately, Copeland agreed that he would be quiet, but when the judge was explaining pre-trial release he interrupted to ask "is any of this negotiable? I used to be a free man... until you locked me up!"www.rawstory.com/capitol-attackers-weird-hearing/
