I do wear one board shorts and we're going to invest in one of those little huts that I can put my chair in. For me being at the beach isn't about getting a tan or being in the sun. I love sand beneath my toes, the breeze... just the whole atmosphere. I'm extremely fair skinned and as a kid in the Midwest in the 80s, sunscreen wasn't a thing. I was sunburned so many times as a kid - so badly in several cases that I blistered. So lots of damage done before I ever hit adulthood. In the last 10-15 years I've been much more diligent about sunscreen and not getting burned. I did learn the hard way about not having spf chapstick though. Spent a few hours at a lake and the reflection from the water sunburned my lips. Two weeks of cutting all my food up into teeny bite size pieces... fat, puffy lips that hurt... haven't done that since. Every spring I buy 2 or 3 different types of sunscreen for lips to find the one I like the best. It's so hard to find a good spf chapstick that doesn't taste like sunscreen. I got to the point that I would use a stick sunscreen on my lips because it didn't taste as bad. Which is crazy! I have tried so many kinds too. Any recommendations would be great!
I like one by Paula’s Choice.

brandy327 also look into the long sleeve rash guard shirts for beach and pool. They’re uv fabrics so don’t have to worry about sunscreen on the top at least. I have a fair ginger friend and those were a life saver for her when they became popular. We do lots of outdoor water stuff in the summers her and before those no joke she would wear long sleeve thermals at the lake and River all day. Before rash guards I wore one of my father's old white button down shirts. Also, I have the added bonus of an allergy to sun exposure. Had it all my life. If I am in the sun for more than 30 minutes I get a rash like little itchy pimples on my chest, hands and arms, even with sun block. I have to have gradual sun exposure to build up an immunity so I don't break out. I do this every year, especially once the pool water hits 90 degrees, know I will be out a lot.

Supergoop makes a sunscreen lip gloss that I liked a lot last season so I'll probably look at getting a new one of those. But the rest of them are exactly as you said - too sunscreeny tasting!! Gross!
