I've been meaning to ask this but the other thread reminded me. I recently got the O'Cedar spin mop. I really like it but am not sure what type of cleaning solution is best? So far I have just used castile soap mixed with the water but it seems to make the floor look really flat and no shine (our floor isn't very shiny to begin with). We have laminate floors. Any suggestions?

I am not sure what you mean by castile soap but, I would use something that was made for your type of floors. If they are wood, then you use something for wood, and so on. Your floors sound like there is a smudge of soap on the floors which is why they are not shiny. If you like your soap, except for that, you might try rinsing the floors with a second mopping to get the soap scum up.

I've long since given up shine as a goal for my floors. I use tea tree oil and water, sometimes Clorox and water, sometimes Murphy's oil soap.... RIght now, I'm dealing with a muddy back yard trying to grow grass, and 2 dogs bringing that mud inside. It's like a war zone! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Some of what I see people use on TikTok makes me cringe. I see some dump a massive amount of Dawn or other soap in. That is going to leave a film!
The best cleaner for me is ammonia. I wouldn't use that on wood though. It is amazing on vinyl.
Are you going back with a bucket of clean water and clean mopping after using the soap? I really think floors need two passes at least. Once with cleaner, then one with just plain clean water.

I think the mop can be the issue. We have the Sponge Mops and Bucket Set with 3 Replacement Sponge Heads PVA Mop: www.amazon.com/dp/B07MQRHV5X/ref=cm_sw_r_sm_apa_glc_fabc_V2JEXX6SMS28QZQRJKEM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1This cleans well and it's so absorbent that there is barely any water/cleaning solution left on the floor--so no buildup. We use Mrs Meyer's Clean Day All Purpose cleaner on our vinyl. I don't "wash" our wood floors: I vacuum all flooring weekly, which is better on all floors than sweeping solid floors. And once a year I use a vinegar solution to clean my wood floors. I use a very lightly damp rag to wipe it on and quickly wipe it off with a dry rag.i could probably use the Sponge Mops but our wood floors aren't "dirty." (We don't wear shoes in the house. That skeeves me out. Anyway, a great side effect is less crud in the home, so less crud to clean.)

I follow a cleaning company on instagram Gocleanco. They recommend a teaspoon of powdered Tide, 1/3 cup bleach and a gallon of hot water (with an o'cedar mop bucket just fill water to the line). I have been using this and it works well.
I also love orange scented Lysol!

I use vinegar on my hardwood floors. The smell goes away pretty quickly. I have a Swiffer that I made reusable pads for from dishtowels at the $$ Store rather than the expensive Swiffer paper ones. I throw the pads in the washer when done. I have tried Bona and Mrs. Murphy's on my hardwood floors but they do leave a film of some kind.

(We had laminate flooring throughout and tried everything during our years there, all sorts of cleaners, they all left a film)

We have tile floors. I use a Shark steam mop with a Norwex tile mop head and plain water with a splash of white vinegar in it. That’s what I used at my old house too with mostly linoleum and hardwood floors and it worked fine there too.
At our lake cabin we have all LVP flooring on the main floor and a different kind of laminate on the lower level. I use an O’Cedar spray mop (no steam) with water and white vinegar there too, or Bona if they’re really dirty.

On my porcelain tile, vinyl, and slate flooring, I use a mixture of PineSol and water. Bona for my hardwood.

For wood laminate, I’d use Bona. Vinegar is likely to take the finish off over time.
I use a steam mop for our floors. No cleaners needed! I’ve had houses with real wood and house with wood laminate and it does really well. And the grunge that comes off tile and plastic laminate floors is disgusting. You need to be careful not to leave the mop in one spot or your floors will warp. I’ve never had an issue, but will do them all in one go. I have a Haan steam mop.

We ended using ammonia and it worked great...but I did read you shouldn’t do that all the time? I’m in agreement with you about two passes. When we land in our new home I’ll be doing this. I've used ammonia on my vinyl floors for 30 years. No issues, other than learning I need to open my windows for some fresh air! Nothing cleans floors like ammonia, but I am not sure it would be great for all surfaces. Vinyl- no problems. Wood and other surfaces, I am not so sure about. But it's cheap, and it out-cleans everything. Just never mix anything in with it

mom I think I was just using too much, the water was really hot. I had to eyeball the amount because all our measuring spoons were packed. I would try it again...but the ammonia gave me the results I was looking for.

We had vinyl plank put in the living areas and kitchen of our home we built 6 years ago. Carpet put in bedrooms. It wasn't cheap, but I love it and wish it had been installed in bedrooms. Lots of sites recommend vinegar/water/cleaner combos for cleaning, but the manufacturer of this vinyl plank says to use a PH balanced cleaner. Glad I read the instructions for a change! LOL!

What kind of floors? I use Bona on my wood floors. Laminate. We also have bona and use that in the spray mop. But I am not sure what to use with the microfiber mop. I was thinking j needed a mixture to put with the water but maybe I could I could still spray the floor but then mop with clean water instead of soapy water? It seems that most of the things I’m finding are already mixed.

Zep Neutral PH floor cleaner. I have LVT floors. You can get at Amazon. I've seen Zep products at Home Depot; I just don't know if they have the floor cleaner.
I have the O Cedar spin mop also but the spinner broke after about 6 months. DH contacted the company and they sent a new one.

I love my spin mop! I just put a little bit of Mr Clean yellow liquid (it is antibacterial) in hot water. Too much makes the floor a little sticky.

It seems that most of the things I’m finding are already mixed. I had laminate floors in my previous home and I used to use Better Life floor cleaner. (from amazon) You can spray the floor with it or put it into your spray mop. It worked really well on laminate. I've been looking for something to use in my tile bathrooms; I'm going to try their tub and tile cleaner.
