Last week dh took our dog to the local pet store to give her a bath (she is a lab who HATES water) so as a reward he bought her a chew treat. When she started to chew it, it broke into really small, sharp pieces. A few days later, she was really lethargic with a warm dry nose. She wouldn’t really eat, but she was drinking a lot and had a few accidents in the house which isn’t like her at all, especially since we are home all day. We waffled between a UTI and issues with the chew bone. I was able to get into the vet today and she thinks it is the chew bone, it is still in her intestine. The vet did blood work, x-rays, fluids, and an antibiotic shot later she is home for the night. She needs to go back tomorrow for more x-rays to make sure that the pieces are still moving. My question: there were obviously issues with the chew bone. Would you contact them? If so, would you expect anything from them? So far we are about $500 in and more tomorrow. obligatory picture, her laying in the grass yesterday:

I’d contact the company. I just saw a warning about chew treats. I think it was in Facebook. Not sure if the issue could be the same but it seemed like these were just sitting in the stomach.

I would contact the store (corporate level) as well as the manufacturer. I wouldn't want that to happen to another dog owner. And dont feel like a bad puppy owner. Sometimes bad thing happen when you are trying to do the right thing. It doesnt make you a bad dog owner.

Definitely call the company. They might want to pull them off of the shelf. While you probably won't be compensated, you'll be saving another dog/s from potential injury.

Don’t feel bad. Your a great dog mom my reacting so quickly.
Please post the treat information so we can all know and share. If you could take a pic of the packaging that would be even better.

I would let the company know, but it’s not likely you’ll get any kind of compensation. Most dog treats have disclaimers warning about only using while supervised, etc.
We give our dogs yak treats (different brand) often and have never had them break into shards or pieces so it’s possible that’s a faulty batch.

Please notify the company. I'd make sure to tell them about your expenses. You do not know what they'll reimburse. It takes a LOT of people notifying companies about a problem before companies react. Thank you for sharing that information.
FWIW, I looked it up on Amazon and some people have said the same thing you did. What I cannot see is where it is made. I thought that was a law that you had to write that? I will only buy dog items (food) made in USA or Canada.
