Last night I woke up several times due to intense pain in my abdomen, on the right side right under my ribs. It happened after rolling from my side to my stomach, and went away when I rolled back. I feel fine now. Wondering if this sounds like gallstones? If so, is there anything else I should do to try to prevent more of this type of pain?

Get to a doctor...seriously. I had this pain a month ago and was diagnosed with pancreatitis.

My sister is going to talk to a surgeon on Monday because her PCP is suspecting gallbladder issues from exactly what have been describing. She has been dealing with it coming and going for almost 3 months (since her son was born) and she was just chalking it up to C-section recovery. The pain was so bad last weekend, she was vomiting, and she is not someone who vomits easily.

It could also be an ovarian cyst or fibroid.
But I agree get to your PCP.

This is a dreadful thing to be dealing with while she has a newborn.

OP, I would get checked by physician ASAP.
My gallstone pain was so strong I vomited and could do very little until the stone moved again. It could also be pancreatitis, or other abdominal problems.

Get to a doctor...seriously. I had this pain a month ago and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I just re-read some of your thread and it sounds like it can definitely come and go at first. Ugh. I really don’t want to go to the doctor but also don’t want it to get worse. What do they do for treatment? And what is the difference between pain from pancreatitis and gallstones?

Your doctor will direct you in the right direction. It could be a myriad of annoying things. My gallbladder pain radiated through the shoulders and around the lower back. I kept thinking that I had pulled a muscle and was sitting w/a heating pad. I had one episode of really violent vomiting, too. Sounds like they might do an ultrasound or even ct to check your kidney's for stones or your abdomen for other things, too. Doesn't sound worrisome, but it sounds like a problem that needs attention.
FYI-gallbladder removal is a routine laparascopic 45 minute procedure. If there are other issues that could change, but assuming it's just a normal gallbladder issue it's outpatient surgery nowadays. It was not a difficult recovery, either. I stopped the pain meds after the 2nd day. They kept me very comfortable. Good luck to you and I wish the best whatever the doctor sees.

I have a little different take on the incident. If this is first time you have had this pain, I would wait and see if it happens again. It might have been a gas bubble. If it happens again, then give your PCP a call. I think more than one incident would make it easier for a doctor to get a better idea about what is going on.

It could also be an ovarian cyst or fibroid. But I agree get to your PCP. Many years ago, I had crazy intermittent pains and it turned out to be an ovarian cyst.

I had my gall bladder removed 7 weeks after our first was born. I hope she gets in quickly for surgery and an easy recovery.

I’ll wait and see if I have any more pain like that and if I do, will go in right away.

That does sound like it could be gallstones. Mine was diagnosed with a blood test and an ultrasound. I had only two attacks about three weeks apart, and after that second one I knew exactly what it was. I thought the first one was stomach flu because it didn’t present as pain really, just upset stomach, nausea and vomiting.
It was so weird because everyone kept telling me I’d feel so much better after I had my gallbladder taken out when in reality I never felt bad except for that one really horrific attack.

I really don’t want to go to the doctor but also don’t want it to get worse. What do they do for treatment? I only had one gallbladder attack and it landed me in the ER. Thankfully I was able to go home (mostly because they didn't diagnose correctly) and see my PCP for follow-up. An US or MRI will be ordered to confirm the stones are there and really the only treatment is to remove the gallbladder. IME, people who end up in the ER usually have emergency surgery. I was very grateful to plan my surgery and pick my surgeon.

Her pain was so intense, she could not hold the baby. Very common post pregnancy. My DH was hospitalized with pancreatitis in January. Dr Google and I had diagnosed gall bladder issues. Not something to fool around with for sure.

I had various gallbladder attacks over a period of years--yeah, I put it off for a long time. Mine was always right under the ribs, but the massive pain was in my shoulder and back. I did ward it off by a change in diet, etc. but eventually I had a constant sort of presence in the area you're describing and went to my PCP and had an ultrasound and found that my gallbladder was literally full of stones, so finally had it out. I didn't bounce back as quickly as some say they do after the surgery, though I did stop taking the pain pills after 2-3 days. I was still in pain for about a week, but then all was well.

My sister just visited her surgeon and as of now has surgery scheduled June 7. (She is on a 6-week work rotation right now, so unless she has a major emergency attack before then, she's scheduled.) Until then, she's doing a super low-fat diet.
Pregnancy does crazy things to our bodies!
