That will make my DS so happy. He is so ready to move back. Now he will just have to find an apartment. He lived there for a full 10 days pre-Covid.

It's good to give your constituents goals. "Get your vaccne and look what could happen." That said, I talked with my son about this earlier (he has lived in NYC since 2012) and he believes this statement is incredibly premature. He is still WFH and his office has no plans to go back yet. Time will tell.

DS has no idea when his office will be opening but truthfully he might end up moving even if they stay remote. I think he is just tired of living at home even though he is saving a ton of money.

We've been doing well. But now, our numbers are up, and the handwriting is on the wall. Our county (as well as a bunch of others in WA state) will be rolling back openings next week. Three counties already rolled back a couple of weeks ago. The powers that be have already sent out the word to retail and restaurants to prepare for it. One minute you're doing great, a few weeks later, not so much :/ Those under age 40 are now driving the infection rate. One false move in NYC and all hell could break loose again.

I think they are hoping but I think it’s too soon. Yesterday NY had 3000 new cases. April 28th last year we had 3285 new cases.
NYC offices have been allowed to have a 50% occupancy. They are now raising to 75%. None of my clients have gone back to their offices. None of my friends who work in Manhattan have gone back to work. The railroad station by my house has parking for 6000+ cars. Pre-COVID you couldn’t find a space after 8:30 am. Now you can have your pick; only about 30% occupancy now.
I think their pushing to get the economy moving regardless of new covid cases. Unless the city starts giving incentives to companies to bring their people back, I don’t see it happening by the summer.

DS who was new to NYC is hoping that his company after seeing that the job he does can be done from home will let him continue to work mostly virtually. Even he thinks it will be a logistical nightmare to get people back into the buildings. I'm thinking about the crowds getting in and out of elevators pre-Covid. I cannot see that happening anytime soon.

I forsee a lot of businesses scrambling to find bike storage space for their employees.

The news reported last week that the one shot figure includes approximately 10% who were due for their second shot weeks ago and have never come back. Can we really believe any figures that Cuomo is control of ?

he believes this statement is incredibly premature. One false move in NYC and all hell could break loose again. I mean, it may be perfectly reasonable to open back up 100% in July, but I don't think we have enough information yet to make such a pronouncement. I've been carefully watching the Times Square area, where I work on the weekends - it's still pretty quiet. The restaurants where I used to go are still closed - no takeout, nothing. Things are more open in other neighborhoods. None of my friends with corporate jobs are back in the office, though some are back out in the bars.

my state is in a good place right now but i'm kind of shell shocked. i'm just afraid we could lose it all again at any moment. people don't ease into an opening around here. it's go big or go home and that's when we get into trouble.

I'm in a different part of Washington (north of Portland). We're in phase 3 but barely... As soon as restaurants went to indoor dining people went nuts and so did the numbers And of course in my district, schools are opening 4 days a week (from 2) next week because now 3 feet apart is now OK. Our county is 25% vaccinated, I think. And they are begging people to come get a shot, no appointment needed, because they can't fill the spots (I can't get my second dose until mid-May). It's the pandemic that never ends...

A couple of weeks ago he and his partner went out with another fully vaccinated couple to “celebrate” being fully vaccinated. They stayed in HK and stuck to outdoor bars but said it was crazy busy. Uncomfortably so. They only lasted until about 10:30, just couldn’t handle the unmasked crowds. I don’t know if they’ve done so since then. I’m assuming the bars are not required to limit the number of bodies outdoors? I dunno. I can’t recall, do you live on Manhattan as well work there on the weekends? How’s your neighborhood?

I wish the State had waited another month or two to push for opening. I got shot #2 today, and life for me won't change much at this rate.

Yeah, I imagine the bars and restaurants on Ninth Ave get crowded; I'm only around in the morning, and where I used to see a lot of white-sneakered family groups (tourists), it's now pretty deserted. I do live and work in Manhattan, but farther uptown. Mask compliance is still really good in stores, etc., but restaurants are filling up both indoors and in the "outdoor" shelters they've built. Subway has been more full this week, too.

Oh no that’s not good. We are still doing well in California and are supposed to be fully reopened by the middle of June. I’m not in a huge hurry to be fully open myself I mean if others want to eat in a restaurant fine but not me yet. Hearing that other states are seeing more cases should be a cautionary tale to other states. This isn’t over yet. I am good with continuing to do takeout snd such even after fully vaccinated. I’m assuming that Washington is doing well with vaccinating so hope it’s just a short blip. I also hope that other states don’t have more surges.
