Today’s NYT has this audio/visual piece showing people from different countries the facts about our U.S. healthcare system. It’s invaluable and I really wish every American could view it. It’s fun to watch and listen to the people react to each part of the presentation....but also sad as we (USA) must realize how much better other nations have it. tinyurl.com/3d2v62bp

This is an excellent video that should be required viewing for all Americans.
I'm constantly amazed when Americans still believe that we (the USA) have the best healthcare in the world. We don't! We pay the most for it and we get the least!
It's an ass backwards system that only benefits the insurance companies and the drug companies. We have to get the "for profit" companies out of healthcare and we have to get on the same single health care system as the rest of the first world countries.

Unfortunately, too many people here seem both conditioned to accept the status quo (or are ok with it as long as they feel they’re not personally disadvantaged by it), or have obtained some of the most misinformed notions about universal healthcare in other countries, they feel it’s the absolute boogeyman.
I’ve lived under both for almost 50/50 split time now, and I definitely prefer universal healthcare - for a lot of reasons. A lot of those reactions are EXACTLY how I felt when I moved here and tried to navigate the system. I was uninsured for a year and a half when I moved here, so I’ve lived as both uninsured and insured in the US. I can personally vouch for the fact that people forgo care because they know the up front or out of pocket cost (even with insurance) is going to be hard to bear.
And I say that, as someone who works for a major health insurance co here. I’d personally be fine with moving to universal healthcare at the expense of my job. Although, in my experience with universal healthcare it wouldn’t necessarily have to come to that either.

We have the best healthcare IF you can afford it. Sadly, many Americans can’t and go without or put things off that could have been readily treatable until they are more serious, more expensive, and have worse outcomes. It’s a disaster.

Should be required viewing.
This very morning, a friend posted on FB that some of our mutual friends have started a GoFundMe page because the husband is acutely ill and they need help for care. This is with health insurance, such as it is. Pisses me off that this is what it's come to.
