pas2 Do you remember which video Jennifer McGuire uses this in? I've never heard of it before and I'd like to see it in action. Thanks! All you seem to see is her grabbing it and rub it quickly over stamping platform. I had to look it up to see what she was doing. youtu.be/tDK2ulyuu78

I use an old glass insulator. They were used on old electric poles. Glides over the platform. I have lots of those! Did you add felt to the bottom?

This is what I use, Magnetic dry eraser. I like that it covers a larger area and I can use both hands so I get good pressure on large and background stamps. This looks like it would be easier on my hands.

Is anyone else concerned that the felt is going to make tiny scratches on the acrylic lid with the felt? Kind of like those vinyl tablecloths with felt on the back that rub off the finished edges of a wooden table? Of course it is more coarse, but still.

I got the LDRS one from my local scrapbook store for $7. I also have a dry erase board eraser that I used before I got the other one. I like the LDRS one because it's easier to grip than the eraser.

Seriously, though. How much pressure do you really have to put on those platforms? I don't use too much pressure because I don't want to crack the lids. A light press is all I need. One of the advantages of using the platforms in the first place is that you can re-stamp if the image doesn't turn out great the first time.

YouTube recommended a video about how to make one of these things - it was called a weird name, sorry I forgot what it was, I’d never heard of the channel, and of course now it’s not showing up. Hopefully it will show up again if I watch some more crafty videos. It looked like a clear (maybe sparkly/glittery) knob.

Hopefully it will show up again if I watch some more crafty videos. It looked like a clear (maybe sparkly/glittery) knob. There were a couple of very recent videos showing how to make them - they called them "chuckies" (that's what Gina K calls hers). I've started a couple (just waiting for the glue holding the glitter to dry clear before I attach the bottoms). They just cut circles from felt pad for furniture and glued it to the bottom of a lid from a candle. I discovered that regular-mouth canning lid jars fit quite nicely on the bottom of the glass lids I have, and that gives me a nice solid bottom to glue the felt onto - their videos show them gluing just to the rim of the bottom. I've seen videos where people really press on them, but I don't think that's what they're meant for. I think the point is that they slide nicely over the lid of your platform (like when you pull your sleeve over your hand) so you get even pressure across the whole lid. Honestly, when I see people really pressing down on them, I think "well, that'll be the next reason Sour Flower (tm don) will be denying warranties when the hinges on those tools start failing." (ETA: I see now that someone had already linked it - I should've read upthread more carefully! doh). "Sour Flower" lol, I like that. Tim Holtz calls it CPR stamping, and I do have to do it on some of my bigger stamps where the middle just doesn't stamp clearly unless I move my (TH) platform to the edge of my work desk, under the problematic spot, and press my weight down on it. TH built his platforms to handle real world use, thankfully. I have some fine text stamps that barely require any pressure at all and smoosh out if I press down, and big florals that need full body pressure.

For background stamps I generally get better results with a lot less effort by placing the stamp face up, inking, then laying the paper face down on it, covering with a scrap piece of paper, and gently rubbing my hand over the whole thing. I thought I would mess it up but it's actually a lot easier than using my platform.

I have the TH platforms and the Stamparatus from SU, and both of those will stand up to CPR stamping just fine Usually (for me) the clear stamps do not like much for pressure, but my red rubber will take whatever I throw at it. I had said earlier that I've been using a dry erase eraser, and that works really well. The only reason I'm making some is that I had the candle lids already, and I can't resist the pretty sparkling glitter

I love mine! I got one from etsy.
I had thought about making one with a candle top. But when I got mine I realized it was not as I had thought it was - so I would have made it wrong. The one I have the bottom is solid so they must have added something into the candle lid part.
It works great and doesnt hurt my carpal tunnel when I'm stamping a bunch!

Just thought I would throw this out there. If you are like me and prefer your crafty things to be pretty or matching. I know it should not matter, but I can't help myself. I found this at dry eraser at Target yesterday for cheap! $1.99 U Brands Dry eraser. fixed the link. Well it keeps going to a cat product, but search for U Brands magnetic board eraser and you will find the (white) eraser for $1.99 If you have grip problems you might not be interested because it is on the thinner side. Kind of like holding a mouse, just longer. I found it in the seasonal school supply area, and also in the office supply section where the decor/matching desk top products are.

Um, maybe I don’t understand how it works, but wouldn’t a brayer do the same thing? I already have a brayer, and have been using it with my stamp platform. It seems to work really well.
Or am I missing something?

Or am I missing something? New gadget. For some people it just works better, I have hand issues and the brayer is not comfortable for me, the way I put pressure on my wrist just doesn't feel good after awhile. If you use a heavy material like a wood block or the candle top those are already heavy so you have to use even less pressure. Im planning to make one or get one from my LSS.

I saw your diy project, loved it! I doubt "Sour Flower" is over it, doesn't seem to be her "nature." Right now, though, she is off to trial, as MSP and Stampin' Up! could not reach a settlement: "Settlement Conference held on 7/4/21. The parties were present along with their respective counsel. Negotiations and discussions were held. The parties did not reach a settlement and will proceed toward trial." This quoted from PacerMonitor. And, there's a typo in that quote, the settlement conference was 7/14/2021. I've been following brief updates. Anyway, because of all that brouhaha, I do have four Tim Holtz platforms (two of each size) and two Stampin' Up! platforms. Gotta have backups, just in case.
As for a pressure tool to use with my platforms, I just use a dry wipe eraser I got off Amazon for $3. My hands hurt, but I use the tool for even pressure, not hard pressure. And, I can re-stamp the image if I feel I need to.
(FYI, I've been a lurker here for a long time, I am only now posting.)

I've noticed the Stampendable tool on scrapbook.com and it's literally an air hockey paddle with a thick layer of felt on the bottom, and the name printed on the side - for $8. I want to give it a try, but for $8 plus shipping, it doesn't make the most economic sense to me.
I'm thinking of ordering a single air hockey paddle from Ali Express for $2 (it seems impossible to find JUST the paddle without pucks elsewhere, which I suppose makes sense), which I could add foam or more felt to the bottom if I felt (heh) that it needed to be bulked up.

Does anyone know where to get the pressure tool Jennifer McGuire uses on her recent video she did on "embossing folder highlight technique"? I like the ones I see with felt for using with the stamping platforms, however, I like how she uses it with dies/glue when pressing them down. I'm thinking it probably needs a little cleaning when used like that from the glue that seeps out from the diecuts. I don't know if the one she uses has felt as well. I'd like to try the one she uses in that video. Thanks!
