I just looked into buying a pressure tool on etsy like the one Jennifer Mcguire uses. I was thinking I could make one using a domed glass lid from a storage jar glued to an old acrylic stamping block the apply adhesive backed felt. It would be easy to grasp (arthritis), heavier than plastic and the corners would work good to get closer to edges of platform. What do you think? Anyone make their own? Suggestions for which glue to use?

I tried making my own, although I went about it differently. I did not get as good results as the real deal.
Stampin’ Up makes a good stamp platform, and it has multiple plates. The plates can be moved to create a pattern.. I have the SU platform, as well as the Tim Holtz version (I like the TH mini best, of the two by Tim).
If you still want to make your own, Goop makes various glues that are tailored to what type materials you are trying to glue together.

I have to stand up to apply enough pressure. If you do make your own, please share the results!

Doing CPR with my hands is becoming painful. I thought about buying air hockey pushers but the handles are small and they are rather light.

I haven't tried this tool myself yet but it looks exactly like an air hockey striker, that you hit the puck with. I am not sure of the size comparison but I went looking on Amazon and found many to choose from. It looks like they are usually sold in sets, so if you have a crafty friend you could split the cost.
I ordered a set. It should work the same I would think. Very economical as well!
Hope this helps!

This is what I use, Magnetic dry eraser. I like that it covers a larger area and I can use both hands so I get good pressure on large and background stamps.

My local stamp shop posted about the Maker Forte Smoosher recently, they love it! It's a bit pricey though, their price is the same as the one of MF's site. Interesting concept though.

I believe this tool is based on the printmakers baren. www.drawcutinkpress.com/using-baren-printmaking/You might find more options and better prices through art supply stores that cater to printmakers. Dick Blick is one that usually has excellent prices and lots of products. I haven't shopped this item specifically. Hope you find something that works well for you!

The first person I saw use one of these was Gina K. One of her followers made it from a curtain finial glued to a furniture slider. The gripping handle on it is quite a lot bigger than the air hockey paddles.
I've seem them made the same way with lids from glass candle jars, drawer pulls, round wood balls and stamp blocks. Like lindas, I've been using an eraser for a dry erase board - does the trick and only cost a couple of dollars.

Looks like a lot of people are copying the idea but honestly, they look easy to make or get on Amazon super cheap.

pas2 Do you remember which video Jennifer McGuire uses this in? I've never heard of it before and I'd like to see it in action. Thanks!

at about. 7:01 she starts using it (not Jennifer) CORRECTION: AT 3:32 Thanks! Who knew air hockey pushers would be so multi-faceted. It's an intriguing idea, I do hate always pulling my sleeve down over my fist to rub on top of the stamping platform.

It's an intriguing idea, I do hate always pulling my sleeve down over my fist to rub on top of the stamping platform. Would you want to use a small microfiber cloth instead? I have a stack for cleaning stamps, a glass mat and wiping ink off my fingers so use those. They stain but ink never rubs off onto anything else so can be used even a few minutes after wiping off ink. They’re thicker than others I’d tried, including a larger version by the same company. They’re eventually tossed in the washing machine. Non-inky ones are used around the house. Prices vary - sometimes twice as many can be just a few dollars more. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XEGEWG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1ETA Price right now is $15.17 for 12 and $16.85 for 24.

I just saw Call me Crafty Al use a homemade baren/tool in her May 2nd cardmaking video - her sister made hers, I think from a finial. There are comments on the video about it.

I've been using microfiber towels surrounding something heavy, such as a paperweight or a heavier jar as my adaptation. I think I'll check out my local building and lumber yard store to find a newel post finial to attach to a wood stamp block. I'll probably wrap the wood block with either felt or microfiber.
I know there are small business folks out there offering solutions, but for me, $30+ is more than I'm willing to pay for such an item. Please don't hate me!?!
I get my microfiber towels from Costco. Very inexpensive for a multi pack. I use them for craft clean up, stamp cleaning, eye glass cleaning, separate ones for house cleaning.
Hope this helps.

I have used microfibre cloths in the past but always end up defaulting to my sleeve. I love my microfibre cloths for cleaning off my stamps, though! Mine are just from the dollar store, not great quality but they do the job.

I use a chamois cloth, but I love the idea of using a dry erase board eraser. I have 2 of those, and I'm going to try one next time I use my stamping platforms. Thanks!

I use an old glass insulator. They were used on old electric poles. Glides over the platform.
