I was just checking out the Michaels app and was very surprised to see that they have versions of the Iris opening die and the reveal wheel die by Lawn Fawn! For $20 (CAD) each! Has anyone tried these? I don't think I will get them since it seems a bit tedious to put them together, but interesting seeing this sort of stuff at Michaels...

I wanted to get the Lawn Fawn one but couldn’t justify the price. I’ll happily pay $12.99 for the Michaels one.

I went tonight and they have the spring wobbler thingys and knock off chibitronic light kits too. Wobblers were 5.99 and lights were 12.99.

I guess they've figured out their business model - knock off/adapt/create everything they can under their own brand. It makes sense. And most of these ideas and products may not be truly unique or new ideas. I don't imagine the smaller companies appreciate being undercut though.

Yes, and I wonder if they will retaliate through lawsuits for copyright infringement (or whatever the correct terminology is).

I have the LF versions, too. So far, I've only made a sample of the Iris one. I bought the LF camera frame and lens additions and will try making one of them soon.

You know what's interesting, midorica? I clicked on the link in your OP and the page comes up as not found! After doing some more sleuthing on the Michael's website, seems like the slider dies are still available but the iris and the reveal wheel dies are nowhere to be found! I wonder if Lawn Fawn filed a complaint and made them pull the items? Slider cards have been a thing for a long time so Lawn Fawn couldn't claim copyright on that, but the other ones were definitely LF inventions (I think, at least). If anyone goes to Michael's in person this week, it would be interesting to know if the dies are still available in store.

I've seen a few knock off type things there. I don't shop there much since the 40% coupon went away.
Maybe this is their way of getting some customers back

I was curious, so I called their headquarters 😄 it was a good thing I had a screenshot of the item number. They confirmed that the iris die was discontinued and wouldn't be back in stores any time soon... I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of action taken by Lawn Fawn. The customer service representative at Michael's told me it was unlikely that I'd find inventory at any stores, but possible. Since I'm in Ontario and we're still under a stay-at-home order, I won't be able to confirm that until stores open.
