Is it just me, or is American Crafts (AC) Quality Control just not so good?
Or "Why I miss the smaller scrapbook/card maker/paper crafter manufacturers".
I've been using a lot of AC products lately. I have found the accuracy of the printing on so many, many of their 12x12 papers are off. Especially for cut apart papers. The ephemera pieces are often cut off center and/or crooked. Plus some of the ephemera packs have pieces missing. The page protectors are often way off even. The adhesive backings are weak and don't hold up; need to add additional liquid adhesive.
I'm getting fed up. But AC is so huge, how does one deal with it? Back in the day, the quality control of the "smaller" companies was so much better. (Maybe more local production.) Don't know what's the cause of the downhill trend. Lack of attention of detail by the company sponsors over the manufacturer quality. Or if the company sponsors are just sacrificing quality control to cut costs of manufacturing. Or the company sponsors are just not supervising production, i.e. checking production on site.
You're thoughts. Or is it just me who is so fussy? Thanks in advance.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday, before I saw your post. I pulled out a sheet from one of the new Project Pads from JoAnn, and found that the hole that should have been in the binding strip actually extended into the 12x12 area. And like you mentioned, the printing is slightly askew as well. Disappointing.

I moaned about a couple of AC 6 x 6 pads in which the printing was off, resulting in the page being less than 6". They replaced both pads immediately by mail to the UK.
I don't buy many AC products, not as a result of this but just that they don't seem to create much that tempts me these days!

The 12x12 chipboard sets. Oof, they're rough. I haven't had centered printing in ages on those. I'll have the shape on the one side cut off by a mm and then a large white outlining on the other side of the image.

I got the HS carefree project pad and one sheet of the solid color paper is shorter than the rest, like not having the tear strip. And honestly it's a burnt rusty red-orange color and I can't figure out how it matches any of the other pattern papers. It's like it came from someone else's collection!

I think we notice this most often in AC products because they are the bulk of our products. I mean, they might be a little worse than other companies and obviously have the worst time getting products to stores but: - I have 2 unusable pieces of ephemera in my newest PinkFresh packet - and I expect them to be better - one is a blank cut, and the other is completely off (like half off the cut, not usable!) I expect so much better of them that I carefully went through the package expecting those pieces to be there in better form... nope. - my new Cocoa vanilla stickers are wrong cut - recent letter stickers from Bella Blvd aren't cut through and I have to cut them
My new Doodlebug is perfect. I wish Doodlebug were more my style because their products always seem so well done. So while I agree there are LOTS of issues, I think it may not be as "AC" focussed as we think? I also wonder about the quality of products going to box stores - they are probably different production lines and I wonder if the control is less. It's definitely one of the reasons i like purchasing from scrapbook dot com. When I've had issues, they will send a replacement no questions asked. Actually, they've been SO good about it, I don't want to complain about little things!!! Like those 2 ephemera pieces from Pink fresh - I am just letting that go, because I really don't think it's work the store mailing me out another package... not their fault.

So glad someone else has noticed this. I will say that anything by the Pebbles group seems to be just fine but the actual AC lines are filled with errors. As a store owner, when we tell them they do nothing for us so our advice to customers is to contact them direct as that seems to have better results.

I bought two packs of their white cardstock when the price went down to about $12. All of them were cut at a slant. Did the price dip when they knowingly had to get rid of bad product?

I hope yours aren't wonky, too.

I have an Echo Park sticker book from one of the lines that came out in January/February and they aren't cut well enough to pull off the sticker sheet. So far I've had to cut them off in order to get the backing paper to release from the sticker. So AC definitely isn't alone in their QA control issues. I recently bought cardstock from Cardstock Warehouse (off Amazon) and none of the paper is cut straight. It's maddening and such a waste!

While quality control decreases across the papercrafting industry, prices increase! Paper collections from AC brands aren't my style (ie vintage, floral, pastel, stereotypically feminine, overly themed, odd icons, etc.), clear stamp sets are cheap acrylic, & many embellishments aren't labeled as acid free or archival quality &/or are advertised as stickers but don't stick! The only AC product I've purchased in the last ~1.5 years is Bazzill cardstock packs in neutral colors (at TM).
In general, it seems more papercrafting supplies are produced in China compared to a decade ago when more smaller companies were sourcing most of their products locally/regionally/nationally. Perhaps quality control has been more lax in the last ~15 months because of factory lockdowns/protocols & papercrafting companies cannot afford to wait for corrected shipments due to international delays related to Covid.

The ephemera pieces are often cut off center and/or crooked. Plus some of the ephemera packs have pieces missing. I've had the same problem and contacted them about it - my Bloom Street ephemera had tons of (good) pieces missing and they sent me a new complete one without any major hassle. I have had issues with Doodlebug too, off center haloes around the die cuts, major missing pieces from packs of ephemera, and they have also replaced them without a hassle (the missing pieces at least, I made the offset pieces work because it wasn't too noticeable on most of them, but I am a perfectionist so it did bug me on some). I don't buy enough to notice issues a lot but if I wasn't keeping track of inventory or looking for my favorite piece and finding it missing I would probably not have realized - it took me until the very end of the Bloom Street ephemera pack to realize I was missing the sun piece and then I checked and noticed all the other bits that were missing too.

I have had a few QC issues with other companies as well, happy to say when I contacted each of them they replaced the item(s) right away.
I don't buy a ton of AC, the most I have is probably Maggie Holmes lines, and those items have been fine-no, I take that back. The two MH sticker books-all the stickers need glue to make them stick. We all know the Thickers no-stick problem too. 😆

Not sure brand, but I have a big pack of 12x12 paper that is not square. So frustrating to have to square it up after I’ve started layout.

I had a Fiskars trimmer that didn't cut anything square and it was the absolute worst thing ever. Nothing looks quite right if the corners aren't square.

My Vicki Boutin Kaleidoscope sticker book sheets (which aren’t really a sticker book) don’t peel off the release paper and I have a 6x12 sticker sheet from her Storyteller collection that is doing the same thing. It’s super annoying. I’ve resorted to cutting around the stickers or just peeling what I can off and using glue.

I would definitely send them an email to complain, both to get replacements and to let them know that these are not really functional as stickers.
