Every year I let my grandsons pick a menu for their birthday dinner at my house. My third grandson's eleventh birthday is Tuesday so we're having his dinner tonight. For the meal he chose (in this order) caramel apples watermelon sparkling grape juice deviled eggs sausage and knephla Last year this grandson chose homemade egg rolls with sweet & sour sauce and popcorn balls I've got everything except the sausage and knephla done so I'm taking a break. What are you cooking tonight?

How nice to have a family celebration. What is knephla? I do not think that I have ever heard of that!
I am doing pulled pork in the crock pot to have on buns with oil and vinegar coleslaw on the side. Dd made a vanilla cake with strawberry icing since it is my birthday today.

Knephla is a small German dumpling. It's very popular around here primarily in soup. Thre are tons of recipes for it and everyone makes it different. I make dropped knephla not rolled. I make it, cook it, drain it and use it with sausage, onions and cream. Used much like a pasta in a casserole. Everyone loves it and the boys ask me to make it a lot.

We ate our big meal when we got home from church and grocery shopping around 1:30...rotisserie chicken we picked up at the store with some mashed turnip and carrots that were leftover from the other night. I'm not hungry but we have salmon pie that dh picked up on Friday from a little shop in town if we're hungry later.

The CT sister is still here and we're all having dinner at my other sister's house down the street. Chili? I think. If I get off my butt, I'll make a stuffed pumpkin to take with us.

Frozen pizza - DD and I are watching the Packer game. I have the crock pot going for pulled pork sandwiches, but it'll have to wait for tomorrow, since we're glued to the tv!

DH is at the Charger's game so the kids have convinced me to go for In-n-Out. DH & I were out last night and told the kids they had to fend for themselves with what was in the kitchen, so they feel they earned a bought meal.

We went to Sweet Tomatoes and had soup and salad. It was good but the dessert was yummy!! Carrot lava cake with cream cheese icing. The best thing about it, warm and gooey, my kind of dessert, gooey.

Cottage pie here tonight. I wanted something relatively quick, easy and comforting as I've had a really busy weekend and now have a headache.

Homemade mac 'n cheese and pudding. DS1 had his wisdom teeth out Friday and is still on soft foods so we're all taking one for the team and not eating "real" food in front of him.

We had some tiny little lobster tails, chicken with "Accent" seasoning,& jasmine rice w/coconut milk & paella seasoning (e.g. kind of a yellow rice). I'm in the clearing out freezer/pantry mode so it will be happily empty when I return ...next year.
