Thumbs up, thumbs down and leaving a comment all sort of act the same to the YT brain. It all counts as you stopping long enough to engage w the content. I get thumbs down here and there and honestly would prefer a comment stating why. If it is something like an audio issue, or something with the video I can still fix - a comment letting me know helps. Leaving a comment letting me know my hands, voice, drink or phone in frame, speed of speech...that lets me know the thumbs down really does not matter.
Things you can do to help support channels you love is to watch the entire video (this goes into back end algorithm stuff and sharing that video in other people's recommendations), selecting the bell icon to receive notifications when content is posted, and adding them to playlists. Even mentioning their channels on forums, facebook groups etc when people are looking for more channels. There are so many out there but it is difficult to locate specific styles on a search for "scrapbook process".
Years ago your recommendations used to be clearly based on what you were watching. Now it seems to be more of what YT wants to push.

Generally I do not give a thumbs down. I either watch it, and move on or Watch it, like it then move on. I did one time give a thumbs down because the guy was being offensive so I stopped watching gave it a thumbs down then moved on. But just once. Whose craft room tour did you watch? www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-GxjCElxkwI was wrong about the numbers though. Only 18 thumbs down, 1.5 K likes. For a room tour, I think he does a good job. Watched it and would never have left a thumbs down for this video. Sometimes I think people are just out to be mean or jerks on YouTube.

The only negative thing I hate about the videos is generally in the comments when someone leaves a porn link. If porn is your thing, great, but don't put it in the comments of someone who clearly isn't promoting those videos. Super creepy.

Super creepy. 1) thank you for watching! 2) the porn links but the crap out of me!thats a big reason I am usually quick to reply to comments. Those "people" are more than likely bots. I notice I get more if I premiere a video or post ar certain times. And blocking them is pointless because a different account just posts next time.

Thanks for sharing such helpful advice. I've been meaning to change my notification settings so I can turn on the bell without getting emails every time someone posts. Thanks for the reminder to finally do that (I had to use my laptop, not the app, to find that setting). Now I can go ring the bell for all of my favorites. I follow an organizing channel where the YTer adds a funny personal story at the end of her videos to get people to watch all the way through. It's very effective! I always watch, sometimes just for the silly story. It helps that she gets into all kinds of weird situations and tells the stories in a wonderfully Canadian/self-deprecating way. She's hilarious.
