What do you think of this dress? On someone a "little more" curvy than the model? Size 16ish? I know we should just wear what we like... and I do like this dress... but some things are more flattering than others. I'm scared of reminding people of a circus.

I'm about that size, and no. I would like like a big circus tent. Too many colors, just too, too much

If you are tall like the model, it may work. I am short so all of those horizontal lines would make me look shorter and stockier than I am. I don’t think circus, though. I think bright summery print. Beachy.

those are not horizontal lines, they are vertical lines. vertical lines do not make you look shorter or wider. horizontal lines may.
if you can try the dress on judge that way. i think it is a fun dress and if you can pull it off...great!

I think the layers might be a problem, depending on where you carry your weight. As an apple shape that layer would hit me in the wrong spot and make me look bigger. If you carry your weight more proportionally it might look fine.

I wouldn’t like it for me, it’s too colorful for my taste. But if you like it get it. You can always return it if you don’t think it’s flattering on.

I was referring to the horizontal seams and tiers creating horizontal lines, not the vertical print on the tiers. Maybe you cannot see those on your computer or phone? They negate all benefit of the vertical stripes. In fact, I think those tiers more than negate the vertical because it looks like fat horizontal lines alternating with thin horizontal lines. I avoid horizontal tiers and seams even in solids because they are awful for short, stocky me. Love vertical stripes if they are right, though.

I am not a fan of this tiered style of dresses to the point that I made an Instagram story about it and had about 15 replies from different women who all felt the same. Target is the worst offender right now.

I always have a little chuckle that certain peas who fully admit in other threads that they only wear tshirts, hoodies, and jeans for some reason always answer fashion advice threads 🤣 Ok.
That dress is adorable. The stacked vertical stripe prints are HUGE for spring and summer and I think we’ll see them for awhile.
Order the dress. It makes me smile.

Ha. I have seen that dress several times in ads. It’s visually very appealing to me. But I’m short, and I’ve tried on those multi-tiered dresses, and I don’t care for the way they look on me. Stripes or no stripes.
A dress or skirt cut more slim, with a deep ruffle at the bottom, gives a similar trendy feeling, but doesn’t create so many horizontal lines or have as much fabric bunching around the hips and thighs.

I think your frame and body type will have more to do with the fit than your size.
I'm super short and chubby with a big chest. This dress would not work on me. On a taller woman, it would be fabulous.

If you are tall, then I'd go for it. If you are short, then it may or may not work. At 5'4", I know from experience that it would not work on me, but I know other petites who could pull it off. If you can return it, then I'd order it and give it a try.

Who has said that? Plus I think anyone can have fashion advice. Hell, I wear scrubs every day. So I can't have an opinion? That doesn't mean we can't dress up or know what works for us.

Target is the worst offender right now. I am the same. I lived through it when skirts were tiered like this about, what...25+ years ago. Just not interested in going down that road again. I agree with the PP who said that between the strong vertical lines of color, and the horizontal pieces of fabric that break up those lines, there's a lot going on there.

Alright, I think I'll check out the return policy (see how much it will cost if I hate it and end up paying to ship it atound the country 2 times) and then I'll order it. I'll let you know how it goes. 🤞

Just because I am (currently) dressing like a slob, doesn't mean I always did, always will and do not recognize fashion. olbrwneyedgirl - it's not my taste but on a tall slender person like that model, I think it would be absolutely stunning. Please let us know how it turns out.

I’m about a 16 now and I follow a few full figure influencers to get ideas of what will work on my frame. I’m 5’6” 175 pounds. I think this dress could work. I would not be afraid to try it. I recently splurged on a rainbow dress that I’m dying to wear on vacation. I think so much of being a fuller size is comfort-feeling good about yourself. Find good full size models and go off that. You would be surprised amd what actually can work if accessorized and what not.

I feel like it’s all about where you would be wearing it.
With a big floppy hat and flip flops near the water I think I’d like it —- otherwise no.

I think if it’s a summer dress it’s cute. I’m shorter than the model but I would try it on. Only try it if it’s returnable. From the side it’s cute. From straight on it could look busy but I like the pattern and colours. Summer should be fun and colourful. I especially like it with the white sandals.

It's adorable on the model. Fun, colorful, and very summery.
I do agree it probably works best on taller women.
Overall, it falls into the have-to-try-it-on category for me. You'll just never know until you see it on YOU.

I am certainly more curvy and larger than that model. For me the stripes would be the hold up. But, I am not a fan of strips in any size or color combo. I've got skirts like this made with different colors of floral fabrics in each tier that I love. See if you can return it, then try it on and see how you feel in it.

It’s funny how people can process things so different visually. I’m having a hard time even seeing anything horizontal in this dress. I understand the tiers create horizontal layers on the dress, but I actually think those are what are negated by the vertical pattern.

I'm in the no way camp due to large colorful stripes and horizontal tiers. I am 5'7" and while that is not extremely tall, I thought I was tall enough to pull off the tiered dress look. I bought one in a solid color and thought "hey this is kind of cute, on trend" blah blah. It wasn't until someone took a pic of me and I saw it on Facebook that I realized just how unflattering it was. So my suggestion is to not only trust the image in the mirror, but get a friend to take some regular old unposed pics of you in the dress from all sides. For me, it was one big tent made worse by it being sleeveless. Ugh.

I love that dress on the model. I'm 5'4 and wear a size 4 dress. I don't think I can wear a dress like that without it overwhelming me. I love the look of a maxi dress, but I have not tried one on that looks flattering on me. When you add the tiers and all the colors I don't think it would work for me, but I'd still be willing to try it on. If it's an easy return, give it a shot.

It's too much colour for me - I'm happiest hanging out in the background - but I really like the blue and white version to the right of the model.

I don't care for it. That "A" frame/triangle style of dress or blouse does not look good on me. I end up appearing to be short, wide and frumpy. Form fitting or slighty loose is a better look for me.

It's horrible, the shape, the fit, the misaligned stripes. Urgh, just awful.

Buy it if you like it. I am not skinny and the truth is you can't hide the fat. Maybe something black, different material, different style may make you look 10-15 pounds skinnier if you are lucky. You're still going to look bigger because you are. Wear what you want.

If you like the way it looks on you, go for it, have fun!
To me it looks like an upside down patio umbrella, the cut and all.

Just a related question, but why aren't we at a point in technology where we could see online how an outfit would look like on our measurements? I truly don't understand.
