I just love the mini carts. Unless I know I'm buying a lot of stuff my preference is the mini cart because I'm almost certainly buying a gallon of milk if I'm at a grocery store and those don't fit well in baskets.

It depends on my order. It's easier to maneuver through the store with a basket but it's not always feasible.

I used to sometimes use the baskets if I only needed a few items, depending on what those items were. They don’t work well if you have a heavy item and all the others are lightweight as they end up very unbalanced.
I quit using the baskets when my arthritic knees started to become more of a problem; a cart was easier and allowed for the extras I always seemed to pick up.
When I had my first knee replacement and was still using a cane, the cart worked best in the store as it could serve as my cane. With the second replacement I only used a cane for a couple days, but I continue to always use a cart; it’s just easier, and if my knee is kind of stiff or sore, the cart is helpful. I also like having both hands free when shopping.

I always get a cart, but if its only a few things I will get the small cart so I don't overbuy
I'm bad for only taking in a few shopping bags & then buying more than will fit in them!

I almost always prefer a buggy over a hand basket. Yes, makes impulse buys easier to cave in to, but it also saves me from hiking back to the front to switch from a hand basket to a buggy once I get a text from DHor the kids asking me to pick up something else.

It's rare that I grab a basket to use. Typically I use the smaller shopping carts many stores around here provide. Although I do amaze myself at how much I can load into one of the small carts! More than once they have had to go get a larger cart to hold all the bags once I check out! LavenderLayoutLady - Have you thought about getting one of these Rolser shopping trolleys? We used them when living in Paris and they really are handy to have. They even make stair climbing models so that riding the bus with it would not be an issue. I have a cart that I take when I plan on shopping. But I can't take it to work to have just in case, so when I stop to shop on the way home from work, I definitely have to employ the just a handbasket method.

It depends how many things I need to buy. However, it often happens that at target I will start with a basket and then end up getting more than I intended, so I end up with a heavy, overfilled basket that I’m carrying awkwardly. I get a cart everywhere else.

Since I’ve had to use a cane, it’s been cart all the time (if I even go inside a store—curbside pickup or delivery are my favorites)

Our Giant Eagle has some small carts, and those are my favorite.

Short buggys. I love the smaller ones. My grocery store used to only have one and people would stalk it. Now they have about 10. The other store I go to is about 50/50 short and standard buggy’s but I’d say at least 80% of the people in a given time have the short ones.

I remember when I went to Canada a few years ago, we went to a grocery store and they had the cutest shopping cart system. It was trolley thing that you set a basket into. There was room for two baskets, one on top, one on bottom. Best of both worlds, both a basket and a cart!

They are very common in South Africa, but I haven't seen them at the shops I go to here in Australia.

If I'm ever going in just to get a few items I will grab a basket, or just put the items in my reusable shopping bags. The cooler bags carry as much as the baskets. Invariably I end up getting more than a few items, and have to try to juggle an overflowing basket / shopping bags.
If I'm doing a medium shop I will grab a half size trolley (cart).
My grocery shop on Saturday was over $300 (aaaaargh!) so needless to say I used a full size trolley.
