Anyone have these in their home? I absolutely love them but uneasy because they require a knowledgeable installer and double sealing. Any input would be helpful! Here’s a link: www.mosaicmorocco.com/product/argana-ctp02-16/I ordered a sample and I’m totally in love.

I have seen the Moroccan patterns in ceramic or porcelain tile, but probably not the same feel as the real thing.
Not sure about walls, but in the previous house we had terracotta tile floors. It has to be properly sealed before installation, then once installed. Then they have to be regularly stripped and sealed, like every year or so. The tile is very porous and if the seal wears off in little areas, it gets dirt embedded in the clay and about impossible to clean. It was so high maintenance to keep looking decent, but to me after a while it always looked dirty.

I saw beautiful Moroccan-style tiles in a home and was surprised when the designer said they were glazed porcelain tiles from Home Depot!

I have cement (also called encaustic) tiles in my pantry and one of my bathrooms, and I have some boxes of another ready to go into another bathroom when we renovate it. We installed them ourselves, and didn’t find them especially difficult to install. They are very thick, though. Ours were presealed by the manufacturer, and we sealed them again prior to grouting.

My neighbor just remodeled her bathroom and she got tiles like this from Home Depot. She did her shower walls with it. I love it

They do make faux encaustic tiles that they sell at places like Home Depot and Lowes. It’s a porcelain or ceramic tile that has a similar pattern printed on top. I’m not a huge fan of them, personally... they look different if you compare the two side-by-side, and they will wear differently over time, because the pattern is printed on top instead of into the body. (The patina on a cement floor is amazing.) Maybe you’d like them better for your lifestyle, though?

We actually have the really piece-by-piece Moroccan artisan tile in our hamam. If someone can guide me through how to post a pic, I am happy to share.
The times that I have wanted to install a patterned tile somewhere, I will print out the design or buy a couple of tiles to put in the place to be tiled and keep it there for a couple of days to see how I like the design.

I understand what you mean about the porcelain or ceramic tile. I want to use them as a bathroom floor and then also as the kitchen backsplash with a quartz countertop. I appreciate your info!

Gennifer, how long have you had the tiles in place?

Encaustic tile is beautiful - and on trend - so I’d just consider whether you’ll love it many years from now, or consider how it may effect resale if that’s important to you or you’re going to move in the next few years, because it’s so specific - the patterns, color and feel. Any top notch tile installer should be able to work with it. Like others said, if they’re cement they have to be sealed, and reapplied occasionally. I wouldn’t use it in an entryway for that reason but others would. : )

Gennifer, how long have you had the tiles in place? We installed the pantry floor in September 2018, and the bathroom floor in October or November of that same year. (I know it was done before Thanksgiving because we hosted.)

We have real encaustic tiles, and I will tell you now that I regret not ENSURING the people who did the work knew what they were doing. I have a beautiful floor that isn’t totally smooth in some places, has dings on edges of tiles, has grout haze trapped underneath the sealer so it constantly looks dirty...get the picture?
Get someone who knows their stuff, hands down.
