I would love to think we could do this repair ourselves, but I really don’t think we should. Especially with something that could malfunction and crush me! I’m getting a second quote tomorrow. For now, I’m opening and closing it old school. Such an everyday thing that is so taken for granted - just pushing a button and having the garage door open. Especially in the rain! We did old school opening and closing for almost two years.... when we finally replaced the garage door it was like some kind of new fangled thing. I still get a little giddy opening/closing the door.

The upgrade price is $1000 less than your first quote? Damn. I'm happy for you and very glad you got a second quote!

The upgrade price is $1000 less than your first quote? Damn. I'm happy for you and very glad you got a second quote! Isn’t that crazy?! The more I think of it, the more that whole first quote was a joke. The three quotes don’t even make sense. If I don’t have to replace my spring right now, don’t give me a quote option that includes replacing my spring. I’m sure they scare other people into replacing things that don’t need to be with the whole upselling options. The second guy said there’s absolutely nothing wrong with my spring. And when I told him I wouldn’t be making the decision that day, he discounted all the options and said “I’ve got the stuff on my truck to do it right now if you decide.” I’ve been a pea too long to not know how to handle trades people who underestimate a woman!

Glad it worked out. I didn’t say anything about your original post because the only experience I had with garage door repair was years ago and I paid a little less than $150 for the replacement of springs. When I looked up the average price for motor replacement here, it’s only around $500 parts & labor. I’ve had plenty of work done in my home (and rentals as well) and I don’t know what it is, but about three-quarters of the time when I get bids, the first quote is almost always outrageously priced.
