Do people still iron? are there better options? I have a steamer, but like the crispness of ironing. I got a new ironing board, but am so dissatisfied with it because it shows the “texture” of the cover. I will be getting another cover but maybe I’m missing something…

Only when I need to for work or some other event that requires it.
I don’t mind it, but it’s not my favorite chore, and I would t do it for all our clothing.

I still iron, not a lot, but a few things. Everyday t-shirts, if I pull it out of the dryer fast enough, they usually don't need ironing. Some of my work shirts, yes, they need a little ironing to look crisp for work. But that was pre-covid! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) My cover doesn't show the texture. I would go look for a different one. I can't tell what brand mine is because I've had it for quite a while.

It depends on the fabric. For certain shirts, yes I have to iron because it's pretty obvious it needs to be. For most pants, no because they are going to wrinkle as soon as I sit down anyway, but I will if I feel like the fabric needs to be be ironed to look presentable.

Yep I iron some of my clothes and would not wear them in public otherwise.
Oh and I also iron when sewing!! all the time. Which means usually an ironing board is already up to use when I need it.

Yes, I’m old or old fashioned at least. I just don’t like the look of clothes that come out of a tumble dryer or are just hung to dry - for me.

Yes and I don't hate it either because the end result always looks better.
My son wears school uniforms so iron daily or weekly. I iron tablecloths or placemats for holidays. I iron most curtains before hanging them. And if and when I sew, I need to iron.

No. I mostly buy fabrics that don’t need it. I hang dry almost all my work clothes, and they just don’t need it. I don’t wear any cotton shirts, they’re all knit or silky.
If I get in a real pinch, I’ve been know you is my flat iron when I’m getting ready. It works very good lol.

Oh and recent years I can not find a quality iron board that I like and is well built. They don't make them like they used to.

I have a hand held steamer that I keep in the bathroom and use often. I iron less often, and when I do I tend to do 6-8 pieces at a time. Yesterday was one of those days. Those are items I've put off wearing since the last time they were washed because they need an ironing and I usually don't have time or interest to deal with it in the morning when I'm getting dressed.

I bought one about 2 or so years ago and it's been great. Sturdy, and easy to open and close. The one I had before than must have been 50 years old. It was my dad's, and he died 31 years ago. It made a horrible screeching sound that sent my 2 cats running when it was opened and closed.

I don't. My grandmother spent numerous hours trying to teach me how to iron better. It never worked. I finally invested in a steamer and have never looked back. I have total admiration for people that iron well.

Absolutely.
I iron all the clothes my kids and I wear.
I hate the look of unironed button up shirts.
We leave on a 2.5 week trip in a few days and the pile of ironing I have is astounding.
Everyone’s outfits will get ironed, put on hangers, and hung in order of when we’re wearing them in our hanging bags.

No. Have enough nasty domestic things to do so I make sure I buy things that do not need ironing.
Also, I do not buy the synthetic no iron clothes since I don't like the way they look or feel. Found out there are plenty of natural fibers that do fine without ironing.

not unless i have to. i wash and hang or fold right away. i have some blouses for work that need to be ironed but i don't wear stuff like that often.
if something is a little crinkly, i will put it in the dyer with a damp wash cloth OR hang it in the shower when i have a hot steamy shower.
something that needs to be ironed just wouldn't get into my rotation for that very reason. my mom irons all her tshirts, jeans, pillow cases, table cloths, etc. i got no time for that!

Absolutely! I iron most of my clothing, with the exception of undies, exercise clothes and most pjs. For one thing, nearly everything I wash is hung to dry. Clothing will last longer if they are hung to dry as the dryer is hell on fabrics. Also, nearly everything I wear is made of natural fibers. Even cotton knit t-shirts get a quick press with the iron. I am also a quilter and sewist, so my ironing board and iron get heavy use. I got a new ironing board, but am so dissatisfied with it because it shows the “texture” of the cover. I will be getting another cover but maybe I’m missing something… Look into the Brabantia cotton covers with the foam and felt padding underlay. Last year I changed out my Brabantia felt pad for a thicker one that I am liking much better. Duwee Deluxe Ironing board dense felt pad You might just be able to change out the pad and reuse your current cover. That's interesting. I bought one about 2 or so years ago and it's been great. Sturdy, and easy to open and close. The one I had before than must have been 50 years old. It was my dad's, and he died 31 years ago. It made a horrible screeching sound that sent my 2 cats running when it was opened and closed. Which iron did you buy? While I have a professional steam generator iron, I like to keep a regular one on hand for quick jobs. My current one needs replacing.

I mean I have an iron. We pull it out every year or so for a particularly wrinkly item or a dress shirt for dh.

I iron a lot less than I used to. I used to iron all of my husband’s button down shirts for work and many of my tops.
A couple years before my husband retired his office went more casual and he could wear polos in warm weather.
Now I will iron an occasional piece or something for a special occasion.
I’ve just started quilting so I do a lot of ironing for that.

No. I do iron seams when I'm sewing. DH changed his preferred work shirts so there's no more ironing unless he chooses to wear one of the nicer ones. I try to avoid buying clothes that require pressing.
