Despite all the recent changes in the scrapbook industry - acquisitions, store closings, designer migrations, reduction to one annual CHA show, etc. - what do you predict is/are the next trend(s) in supplies? Is it a completely new product introduced to the market? A new color scheme? An unexpected theme? Less overall supplies released? More product released less often? Pocket scrapping domination? TFS your thoughts!

Maybe it'll be all about books, blogs, classes and articles that show you how to use what you have in new ways.
Maybe they'll teach how to fold ribbon into flowers. Or how to use washi and sequins and chipboard in such a way that they become new again.
I think it will be all about using what you have since many scrappers have hoards and the trend to not buy as much, but to use what you already invested in seems to be what's "in."
I think the scrap celebs will market more classes, and instruction books than actual physical product.

I. Have. No. Idea. LOL!
Seriously, for a bit there I was pretty good at seeing the trends come in (partly b/c I attended CHA several years in a row), but now I'm just not so sure.
I do think the pocket scrapping is going to keep going strong. Even the people who have a ton of traditional supplies are still buying things in this category since it's something different (if they are doing PL, that is).
And yeah, maybe more classes and paid content like that? I think one of the downfalls of 2peas was all the free content. Don't get me wrong, I loved it and took advantage of it. But it didn't bring in big income for them, I'm guessing. Even back when Nicole Mc. was doing her videos, I would try to buy stamps and the things she was using and it would be all out of stock. I usually found it all elsewhere and of course those stores got my $.

I can't imagine what's left, to be honest. I thought it was strange when they had all of those rather large sized embellishments made out of metal. And whenever I go the store I'm always thinking out-of-the box so I probably have a few weird items myself depending on whether or not I need it last forever and just a fun mini-album for the next decade. I like the Michael's dollar bins for them and have gotten some great things.
My family room is shabby chic-ish and I use those types of paper in an 8x10 frame with the glass out so I can add any type of embellishments, mainly buttons, ribbon/lace, the wood, and Prima items
I'm looking forward to seeing the next big thing but until I find another job (down-sized 2 weeks ago)I can't (don't want to) spend a dime on something that's not absolutely necessary.
If anyone hears anything, please post! Oh, is there a CHA in the summer? I can't recall. I scour the websites for the new items.

I have no idea what more they can bring to the market that we don't already have in some way or another.
Pretty soon everything will be old so all will be new again!
With all that's been going on lately I am really glad I'm a supply hoarder!

I would add that to my previous reply. Maybe paint chips will be in again. I never used any of those but really liked the layouts on which they were used. I can't even remember what some of the trends were. Can someone provide a recap of the last several years? I always get on the bandwagon for a new trend about 2 years too late.

With the re-emergence of Spirograph spirals and zentangles, it will be something old made new.
Paper Quilling.
Already saw some last summer from Jolee's Boutique (and Martha Stewart, I think). I think it's still got steam to gain.

The only thing I can think of that would be different is if they came out with more original phases. I would love to see more sarcastic ones myself lol.
For example: "That was Stupid" "What was I thinking?" "Bad hair day" "SOOO NOT THE BEST DAY EVER!" I would LOVE things like this!('cause I'm a little messed up? lol)

During PRT's most recent episode re: 2Peas closure, Nancy Nally, said a few years ago 2Peas wanted to really ramp up their stamp inventory but couldn't because of their financial problems. She said keeping stock of stamp & coordinating supplies is very expensive. Wonder if this plan coincided with Nichol's weekly videos? I was really disappointed when her series didn't continue the following year. Could be a reason why you weren't able to purchase from 2Peas.

Flamingos. They are big in fashion this season so it reasonably follows that we will be sticking them to out LO's within a few months LOL

I think that pocket pages are going to keep steadily increasing in popularity and I have seen quite a few quilling bits and pieces so I would agree that it could be something on the horizon. I remember on two peas a few people talking about "retro scrapbooking" but it was more in line with a shift from the overly arsty mixed media style to a more simple traditional style.

Re: Paint chips - I go to Walmart and get the paint chips from the Disney line because they have little Mickey Mouse heads in silver on the bottom right corner, and I can use my trimmer to cut of the very top where the paint color is listed.

I think it is time for more metal embellishments to come back, kind of like all the cork stickers but shiny

Thanks for your replies. I've never been able to accurately predict the trends, so it's fun reading your creative ideas. Pink flamingos do seem to be everywhere lately. Given the saturation of pocket scrapping supplies with every company offering its own version, I expect it to begin declining soon. I just hope American Crafts, which appears to monopolize the current industry, continues to produce quality Bazzill, Quickutz, etc. products; I cannot fathom a page without my preferred Bazzill textured cardstock! Feel free to add your predictions!

Flamingos. I live in the UK, how's that going to work?! I predict more office supplies being used - cheaper than actual scrapbooking items.

I wonder if we will see a shift to simpler pages to help the industry grow, so that new scrappers won't feel so overwhelmed. It may be a way to recruit new scrappers.

Huh, flamingos.
Guess they'll be the new owl overload.
But I don't like them as much as owls.

I'm think peacocks and peacock feathers could be a trend in the future. They will be either patterned paper with gold foil or actual feather we can use on the page. If you google peacock art and click on images you will see what I mean.
There is a whole lot that could be done with peacocks.
