DH and I are finally getting a new bed. We agree we want a king. He is adamant about getting one that has a split mattress with a base that can adjust the head and/or foot. He often gets sinus infections and I do like to sit up in bed to read. But...I'm not sure it's worth the additional expense.
Any experience with this? Did you love or hate yours?

That’s what we’ll get next time. My mattress is only 3 years old though, so I’m not ready to switch.

I love mine. We have had a split king Sleep Number bed for about the last 10 years or so. It was pricy when we bought it, but is still very comfortable and we would definitely buy another when this one wears out. I sit up to read and also elevate my feet a bit, Dh doesn’t use the adjustable feature much, but said he wanted it to help him sit up to get out of bed when he needed help. Well, that hadn’t happened yet, but we still like the adjustable feature.

We have a Sleep Number split king and love it. Love the Zero G option if my back is feeling sore, elevating my head for reading or watching TV.

We have a Sleep Number split king and love it. Love the Zero G option if my back is feeling sore, elevating my head for reading or watching TV. We have this bed as well. I can only sleep in a Zero G position for back reasons, and DH has to sleep flat for the same reasons, so the split king with the adjustable base works perfectly for us.

We have been sleeping in a cali king since we got married 30+ years ago. This year we upgraded to a split king sleep number with adjustable base and I HATED IT. Ended up sending it back and got an adjustable base for the full bed. The advantages of individually adjustable sides were outweighed by my need to sleep WITH my husband without a big gap in the mattress between us. And the gap was actually pretty small - lol

Do it. We have a full king, but can adjust each individual side. But it always causes a dip in the middle. Next time, I’ll get a split mattress. We have a tempurpedic mattress and that sucker is so heavy there’s no way it will move and widen the gap. We are considering leaving our mattress here in Belgium when we move back to the States because we want the split mattress. I have sinus issues and it helps a lot to have my head elevated. DH has restless leg syndrome and being able to adjust his feet makes a huge difference.

We moved from a queen to a split king about a year ago. It has been successful for us in that DH definitely needs to be elevated a bit to sleep now and I sometimes do. Also for awhile we had different mattresses on the bases. Dh had one he loved but it was an air mattress that just couldn't hold up to long term use. We are currently both using Sleep Number mattresses but I'm thinking of going back to a conventional one that works with an adjustable base. We like the flexibility of being able to each have what we want in one bed.
The downside is that when I have the bed to myself I like to really sprawl out and that is harder to do I find with two different mattresses. You are probably supposed to use one large sheet and blanket over both bases but that just didn't work for us. So I tend to get tangled in his twin sheet if I try to stretch out over on his side. The other downside is the edging of the mattress. You just can't really lay in the middle of the bed.
This princess has yet to find the perfect bed.

The base to a kimg bed is 2 twin boxsprings, so if you are then using a "split" mattress for your king bed, arent you just putting 2 twin adjistable beds next to each other?

We have a split bed king and love it. DH needs to be elevated and I don't so it works well for us. The gap doesn't bother us.

I couldn't find the right number for me even after years of trying. I've tried probably 4 or 5 mattresses in the last 10 years and my back still hurts every morning. That being said, what is the Zero G option?

Love the split. I love that I can lift DHs side to help with the snoring in the middle of the night.

My parents had a split mattress for years. They loved it.

We got this one from Costco right after DHs surgery and before mine this year and it has been a lifesaver for healing, and his snoring. We don't snuggle as much now, but I still sleep with my leg flung across him. They do slide a bit if we're having sex and laying across the bed so I just make sure to scoot on his side first The price was right and the mattresses are really comfortable. Costco

We bought a Sleep Number Adjustable Split King last summer and we love it so much. I like to sit up and read and DH likes to watch tv. The zero G position is awesome. It wasn’t cheap but it was worth every penny.

Love it! We just switched to a split king on adjustable bases two months ago. Now I can't imagine going back (next vacation will be tough!). Our mattresses are the TempurPedic ProAdapt Hybrid. DH gets up several times a night and until we switched, I didn't realize how much it was affecting my sleep. Now I am so much more rested. I wanted to just get the split mattresses on a regular base to save money, but DH insisted on split bases as well. I'm a night owl and like to read in bed, where he is an early to bed guy, so split does work better for us.
If you can, purchase at a store that has an allowance return/exchange policy. We buy from Mattress Firm and have 4 months to exchange or return any or all of it. Currently we are on the fence, but may be trading the mattresses for the Tempurpedic Breeze which sleeps 8 degrees cooler. Either way, we are sticking with the split mattress/base.

We have a Sleep Number split king and love it. Love the Zero G option if my back is feeling sore, elevating my head for reading or watching TV. We have had a split king adjustable base for 3 years now. Best. Purchase. Ever. Ours isn’t a Sleep Number, but it has the Zero G setting and I use it to read in bed nightly. I sleep with my head elevated a bit for my eye issues. And I would never have made it through my mastectomy and the three reconstruction surgeries - all requiring 4-8 weeks of sleeping on my back - without the adjustable base bed. eta: I just checked: our base & mattresses are by Serta.

My son and DIL have that kind and love it.
We have the traditional type and have no problem.

Thank you for the input. I think we’ll look into it further. I’m not excited about the gap, but it sounds like it really isn’t a big deal.
