"Senate Republicans are poised to block the creation of a special commission to study the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, dashing hopes for a bipartisan panel amid a GOP push to put the violent insurrection by Donald Trump’s supporters behind them. Broad Republican opposition was expected in what would be the first successful Senate filibuster of the Biden presidency, even as the family of a Capitol Police officer who collapsed and died after the siege and other officers who battled rioters went office to office asking GOP senators to support the commission. The insurrection was the worst attack on the Capitol in 200 years and interrupted the certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s win over Trump. A vote on the procedural motion was expected Friday, potentially in the overnight hours, after delays on an unrelated bill to boost scientific research and development pushed back the schedule. Though the bill passed the House earlier this month with the support of almost three dozen Republicans, GOP senators said they believe the commission would eventually be used against them politically. And former President Trump, who still has a firm hold on the party, has called it a “Democrat trap.” " apnews.com/article/gop-set-to-block-january-6-panel-e1e3552f69c0d958240a613a615a9f47"During the Obama administration, Rep. Jordan served on the Benghazi Select Committee, a Republican-lead effort that cost about $7 million dollars and held 33 hearings over more than two years into a topic that had already been investigated by seven other Congressional committees. The investigations followed a pair of deadly September 2012 attacks on U.S. facilities in Libya." archive.thinkprogress.org/after-years-of-hearings-on-benghazi-diamond-and-silk-house-gop-says-cohen-was-a-waste-of-time-c22626b510ea/

The republicans have become a completely corrupt party. They have totally lost their morals. In my opinion just scum.

Can’t Biden’s DOJ appoint an independent investigator? I would trust that more than this “bipartisan” commission that just got shot down. There were so many ways for republicans to limit that investigation that nothing would have come of it anyway.
Now that they are refusing to investigate, let Biden turn the dogs loose that he has at his disposal.

The FBI investigated the 911 attacks, too. But, the FBI alone was not sufficient then and is not sufficient now to investigate the insurrection.

There is an investigation by the FBI currently. Not good enough. Was Trump involved? Ghosar? Why were national guard so slow in responding?

There is an investigation by the FBI currently. So, I assume you would have been A-OK if only the FBI investigated Benghazi and there were no congressional hearings? And you would have been okay with no hearings being held because the Democrats voted no?

I know only a few care but here is a recap of the information attached to the tweet…
54 Senators voted yes for the 1/6 Commission. They represent 191,367,007 American People or 57.74 of the total population of this country.
35 Senators voted no. They represent a total of 104,462,951 of the American people or 31.52% of the total population of this country.
11 Senators, also known as cowards, did not vote and they representv10.57% of the American People..
The forming of the committee went down to the defeat.
Did you see how messed up this is? And where were those 11 Senators???

I hate all Republican politicians and those who support them.
They are dismantling everything in our democracy.

I told myself a long time ago to not engage with her, but this whole situation just pisses me off so much. I don't know how any AMERICAN, whether Republican or Democrat, (except of course, if one was complicit in this!) can think we don't need a congressional investigation into what happened on January 6. It's just another thing on my list of things that are mind boggling to me. And yet one more reason why even though I voted Republican most of my adult life, there is no way I ever will again.

It wouldn’t have changed the outcome, but she should have been there.

The Republicans who voted no should be ashamed, but they care more about their next election and staying in power. The Republicans have had so many opportunities to break from former, but they refuse. I can only hope they pay for that in the next election, but there never seem to be consequences for their actions. Just look at Matt Gaetz. Still holding rallies and talking about the 2nd amendment as a right to rise up against the government. Not only is he dangerous to young women, he’s dangerous to democracy and the entire country. Someone needs to shut him up already. Sorry to go off on a tangent.
