We are moving into a house that has laminate wood floors in the living room/dining room/kitchen. We've always had carpet and tile. Is there a special cleaner I need? Or anything special I should know? We will only be there for a year and I really want all my security deposit back at the end, so any advice on how to care for these floors is appreciated.

I use Bona cleaners for my floors. They have a formula for hardwood and another for laminate/tile.

We found that every little spot showed due to how our boards ran and how the light hit them. Plus we had a dog. Honestly I never found anything that worked well, but would try to above recommendation if I still was in that house. This is one reason I really really prefer real wood!

Thank you! I will look for it next time I'm at Target.

The Enjo floor cleaning system is little short of a miracle.

I haven't had luck with Bona - it left streaks. A lot of people recommend using vinegar and water and I've had a little luck with that. I'm mostly using my steam mop but I've also read you shouldn't use steam so I don't really know if I'm ruining my floors or not.

I use a towel with as much water squeezed out as possible. I'm also looking for an easier, better method (don't care for Bona for large areas).

I have a shark steam mop. It is perfect for my laminate wood floors. No chemicals at all. It has three levels of steam and the floor gets really clean.

Never use water or a steam cleaner on laminate without checking manufacturers instructions for cleaning - almost all say no water on laminate.
i've been using Bona cleaners since 2009 and my floors look like new - no streaks.

There are some packages left over in the garage so next time we are there I will see what it says. I thought I heard somewhere else not to use our Shark on laminate wood which is why I asked here Thanks again everyone

I was told by my installer to never, ever use plain water or steam on my floors. Bona left streaks no matter what I did. I have been making my own cleaner and have used it over a year with no problems.
Homemade Laminate Cleaner
2-4 drops Dawn dish liquid 1 cup water 1 cup rubbing alcohol 1 cup vinegar
Mix together in a spray bottle and shake.

I have to Shark steam cleaner and it is amazing for laminate floors!
FYI, do not use a cleaner unless it says for laminate floor on it. Not any Lysol, pine sol, generic cleaner will work for laminate floors.

I use vinegar and water mixed in a spray bottle. I spray it on a microfiber mop. Works great, I never have streaks.

Bona left streaks on the floors at our previous house, we moved into this house a year ago and Bona does a great job. I think it will depend on your particular floor. I have dogs a Bona removes dog drool.
Making sure spilled liquids get cleaned up right away, there isn't much else to do for laminate, met hats the beauty of it.
