I watched a Chopped episode the other night and one of the basket ingredients was Swai, so I thought I'd give it a shot when I saw some frozen filets at the store. But, now it's almost time to cook dinner & I'm wondering what to do with them ... got any good recipes?

My suggestion would be to throw it in the trash! I bought it thinking it was tilapia, I was not paying attention that day. Cooked it anyway and it was the rankest fish I have ever had . I am not a fan of fish when you can really tell that it was a bottom feeder. I cooked mine in the oven. I guess it could have been better if it were deep fried.

Oh no! I don't like tilapia, so maybe I need another plan for dinner!

It doesn't taste like tilapia to me, which is why I got rid of it. Tilapia is a lot milder, IMO. Swai has a pretty strong flavor and I even made a sauce to go along with it, I was not impressed.

Hmm... I would have sworn that what I buy sometimes in the frozen section is swai. But to me it's just a plain white fish. Nothing "rank" about it. Maybe ilovebuble had some that had gone bad?
I usually just saute mine with a bit of liquid -- maybe some broth with lemon juice. Not much, and I turn it off before it's cooked all the way. Put the top on the pan and finish fixing the rest of dinner and it will be cooked perfectly by the time you're ready to eat.

Pan fried with a light breading, the swai I've eaten (also the individually frozen fillets) was QUITE tasty!

I think it's just kinda of a generic white fish like tilapia.
Although when I worked at a hospital they had it for lunch one day and it was the most disgusting thing ever. But I chalk that up to the preparation not the poor fish.

The name SWAI creeps me out.

Thanks for all the feedback!
I drizzled some olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder & paprika over the filets & oven baked them for about 12 minutes. I added some capers & fresh lemon juice. We thought they were very good - I'll definitely experiment more with it!

Treat it like catfish or other sweet white fish-panfried, blackened, broiled. Just season it nicely in all cases and cook it as soon as possible after defrosting or purchasing fresh-it gets a nasty fish market smell quickly that is hard to overcome. I like it the same as catfish, blackened or bake with a white sauce that has crab and chopped shrimp in it over the fish. Yum.

We bake it with butter and lemon pepper. It was edible, but not my favorite kind of fish.
