Hi all, hoping to get recommendations for a good, cost-effective option for double-sided adhesive that I can use when cutting out intricate dies. I really like Stick It, but for the amounts I am currently using, it's adding up quickly! I tried to be clever and got a roll of wide sookwang tape, but it is so irritating to use for intricate die-cutting 🤦🏻♀️ the release paper is too thick and comes off while releasing the die-cut which is a pain because the adhesive is exposed before I am ready to put it in place. Hoping someone else has found the perfect adhesive to use. I am in Canada, so if it's easy to find here, that'll be the cherry on top. Thanks in advance!

I've switched to the scrapbook . com brand of double sided tape as it's so much cheaper and their shipping to Canada is reasonable. I bought the wider width to back paper in order to die cut with it - but I've only used in on 1 die so far! (i more often tend to die cut and use my art glitter glue to adhere it). I don't know how thick their backing is compared to sookwang...I *think* it's a little thinner but I have no sookwang left to make a comparison for you!!!

Could you tell me if the backing was cut out easily with the die? I have a Gemini Jr and I am hoping it will be able to take it on...

I use sticky specs for intricate die cuts. Its sheets of dots, place die on sheet, replace w cover sheet, rub, peel off. I get them from scrap addicts in Edmonton.

I have a regular big shot, used a metal shim and still had problems with the adhesive not cutting cleanly on some areas of an intricate die. Maybe your Gemini will work better. I also saw a CTMH Youtuber lightly brush on glue with a sponge brush. I tried that out with a tacky glue I got from SSS and it worked perfectly. I would try that method again.

Could you tell me if the backing was cut out easily with the die? I have a Gemini Jr and I am hoping it will be able to take it on... I just tried it out so I could report truthfully I cut an ornate letter "h" with a very thin outline. It's one of my hardest to cut letters - if I cut it on 120lb cardstock I even have issues. I cut it on american crafts cardstock with the adhesive attached. I too have a gemini jr. The letter cut beautifully - better than without. The outline was easier to handle with the extra layer on the back - now I know!!! The adhesive backing on the OUTLINE part of the letter did not cut fully. It did cut fully out of the inner/larger part of the letter and worked like I would want (still attached to the letter) I think SUPER thin ropey (this outline is less than 1mm) pieces may have an issue. But circular pieces would probably be fine. I'm pretty sure the stick-it is going to be better... but for the price this might suffice?

I use hermafix dotto for pretty much everything. I can swipe it across anything and rub off what goes where I don't want it to. Not exactly what you were asking but it's what I use.

I bought a roll of AJ Sign World Best 3" Ultra-Thin Permanent Double-Sided Tape from Amazon in 2019. Big mistake. I still have 99% of the roll. The backing paper is too thick to cut. Bummer.
I've gone back to using a Xyron. I have 3 sizes and although it's pricey, I have the best results.

ScorTape (Sookwang) is my go-to when needing excellent stickage, plus it has easy-off release paper (too easy for die cutting), super nice owners and a bunch of unexpected projects and items on their site, But I wouldn’t use it for die cutting unless it was a good sized solid die. I just don’t think it’s a good fit for die cutting.
I use Stick-It and sometimes a Xyron, but mostly use matte liquid adhesive for intricate and most dies. With a good tip and method to keep it from clogging, it’s fast, plus there’s the wiggle factor. I wish I knew of a better product for you.

I have tried several different double-sided tapes and sheets with my Gemini junior with mixed results. I much prefer just to dot Cosmic Shimmer Specialist Acrylic Glue on the back of die cuts, especially fine ones. I transfer the glue to a small bottle with a needle nose, and as long as I remember not to leave the lid off too long, I have no problem with it blocking. It’s much cheaper than using tape, and gives a much better result.

Thank you for this awesome recommendation! I actually ended up finding a huge pack of Stick It on Amazon for a decent price so I picked that up for now, but I looked up Sticky Specks and it looks like an amazing alternative! Might pick up a pack to try soon.

Unfortunately I have too heavy a hand with any sort of liquid glue 🤦🏻♀️ I'm trying to get better at it, but I always seem to panic and flood my most intricate cuts 😑

So kind of you to test it out for me I looked up a few videos and I feel like it won't work well with the thin layering dies I want thin adhesive for 😞 but the reviews are so favourable overall that I will probably end up buying it for general use eventually!

It's impossible to find refills for my Xyron X machine and if you do, they are outrages prices! I found this on Amazon. It's 1.5 inches like the machine, but they have different widths. It is extremely sticky! I remember doing some comparisons, and I'm pretty sure it's cheaper than scrapbook.com.
ETA: The tutorial videos on scrapbook.com are helpful when using this tape because it is a bit of a different process.
