I just got a wall water fountain that has a solar pump. I was wondering if having the fountain in direct sunlight all day will cause it to not last as long as if it were in a partly shaded area. The pump cord is long enough to get sun no matter where I put it. Any other fountain tips? TIA!

We were graciously granted a huge fountain in our backyard when we bought our current home a year ago. Our neighbor told us all about the original owner asking him to help lug it in the backyard for him.
It sits in direct sunlight all day - its been there for 5 years. We have had no troubles with it not working whenever we have turned it on. However, we had to learn how to care for it because we started to get an algae build up. Also, the birds seem to think we are the fountain of choice for bathing. They leave little surprises for us all the time.

What's the wall fountain made of? We have a freestanding fountain that's made out of concrete - sunlight isn't going to hurt it. I could see it being an issue for some of the resin ones though.

We have a freestanding concrete one too and we love it! The sound is so soothing. The pump is electric, and it's only on when we're out there. Birds like to bathe in it, but we haven't had any poop in there. We put drops in it every week to keep the algae from getting bad, and the drops are safe for animals. We do keep a small fish net (the kind you would use in an aquarium) by it and fish out any leaves/twigs that fall in. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours!

Thank you so much for your replies! It is a resin fountain to hang on the wall. I like the idea of a tiny fish net to scoop stuff out. I'm going to look for the animal safe algae drops. I can't wait to get it going!
